when this shakes up the house, that's when you know you have a good sound system.
Growing up, my friend's dad had this crazy sound system (ESS-Heil AMT speakers, which were these massive obelisk-shaped things, hooked up to an amp that must have weighed 30 pounds) and he'd crank up the volume whenever this appeared at the start of a videotape. We'd hear it outside, look at each other, and say, "THX".
My friends older brother used to work in a cinema and they gave him some of their old speakers when they refurbished the theatres with new ones. They literally shook the entire house at 5% volume with this bad boy. I'd imagine structural failure would occur if he turned them up beyond that.
2005 when my dad had speakers the size of a man. Good times
When this shakes up the NEIGHBOR'S house, that's when you know you have a good sound system. FIFY
@@txslowpoke I live in a higher higher end trailer park, almost like an association neighborhood but trailers and the people aren't stereotypes either but getting to my point. I two bose surround sound systems, like two actually systems and two sets of speakers and two subs and it pisses off the neighbors behind and next to me when I watch a movie with THX. It doesn't help that I also bought two more of the acoustimass subs because you can chain a second one to your first one. So it'll be even more aggressive.
I miss seeing this. Deep Note was the sign that what you were about to watch was big, loud, and awesome.
I'm honestly happy I never grew up with this.

It all started with Star Wars Return of the Jedi, which was big and epic for 1983.

There’s a train that passes by my apartment. Right as I clicked on this video, I could hear it coming down the tracks. The apartment started to shake as it does, and the locomotive went by right as the highest intensity of the Deep Note struck. What an experience

that is the loudest thing ever. you're watching at night. the volume is like 5% and yet this sounds like the TV is on 50%
It sounds loud because of how many frequencies there are; it isn't actually loud.
@@happysmash27 You've given a reason stating why it's loud and then said it isn't actually loud.
That's if you're using a good sized stereo CRT with bass.

That is, if you're using non-wireless or wireless headphones or just Bluetooth headphones (like the one I'm wearing), while connecting through your device or your laptop/convertible, you'll know the distraction through the speakers have muted and the headphones have already transferred through your ears. That said, a headphone should have the model of a JBL E-Series name listed here. _Don't mind the speakers through your computer, though._ Turning up the volume through 69% may still enhance your hearing volume, but hearing it from your speakers may distract the people around you.

Man, next to popping balloons, THIS was the sound of nightmares for me as a kid!!
I used to be (and still kind of am) scared of static. I remember when I would pop in a VHS late at night, and when the movie ended and the credits had finished rolling, I was left in a dark, empty room, the only light and sound coming from the TV. I always expected a ghost or something to be in the room with me.
@@rhyadil5309 I once watched The Shining as a child and after I was too afraid to get up and turn the VCR off, but I was also afraid of the loud static that results from letting the VHS play until the very end.

Well turn your volume the hell down when you start hearing the deepnote, because it is trying to play the song of its people.
God damn this brings back memories. Everybody talking, goofing off in the theatre, all the little crappy Coke ads and reminders to not throw shit on the floor or put your feet up on the chair in front of you happens.....then the lights go down, this starts playing and everybody knows the real shit is about to happen. The whole build up of excitement is crazy good.

Probably the best sample I've heard on RUclips. Still compressed by RUclips, even if the original wasn't, but a good conversion nonetheless.
And we all must keep in mind that the original Deep Note was produced by a big, bulky, (albeit in its heyday impressive) processor that is EASILY surpassed by modern day hardware. (Even the cheapest PC that you could be reading this from is way faster)

Pretty much one of the most epic sounds ever.
Always loved this sound. The different tones harmonizing is so satisfying
Wings Version:
It starts off with a group of descending synthesized voices reminiscent of the sound of an airplane flying. Two of the voices become louder than the others as an ascending synth can faintly be heard in the mixture. This part of the Deep Note then repeats, and the lower of the louder voices eventually gets even deeper and slows down in tone. At the exact same time, another voice fades in as more voices get higher and louder in tone, becoming an ascending dramatic sound until the sounds stop in one pitch.

original uncompressed audio on youtube ;)
Uhhh no, this is still majorly compressed. When you posted this comment, audio on youtube was about 128 kbps. Now RUclips streams at around 256kbps Opus audio, compressed but okay. If you really want a good version of this, I suggest going to www.TheDigitalTheater.com and take a look at their copies of THX intros, such as this famous "Broadway" deep note. There, they have lossy AC3 (Dolby Digital) copies, lossless Dolby Atmos, and DTS Master HD tracks.
Fuck, I'm stupid. I totally disregarded the wink in your comment. Sorry. www.thedigitaltheater.com is still a really great place to get movie trailers and company bumpers in lossless and lossy containers.
I'm pretty sure my pants were up before I heard this sound.
Just imagine what would happen if you hooked this up to two subwoofers with a strong amp.
Best quality THX sound effect I've heard so far on YT!
The fact that its called the "deep note" just shows how powerful it really is
There was a time this got you HYPED because this was often paired with movies associated with Lucasfilm or Pixar or something
How to use in a RUclips Poop: Use as a screamer after the real RUclips Poop ends. Here's how:
Use only the loudest section, which starts around two or three seconds before the notes come together in one pitch, and ends a second after that happens. First, go to Sony Vegas, amplifying the audio track as high as possible and giving the THX logo a shaking zoomed in effect. Save the poop to My Videos. Next, go to Windows Movie Maker, get your poop, split the THX logo from the poop, and amplify that section again. The only risks to this are dislikes on your videos, loss of subscribers, and some threatens to sue, but don't worry. They won't actually sue, but if they do, get a proxy, fast.
And don't forget to overlay a troll face for a split second until the video ends.
This is the one! The version that hasn't been altered. Thank you!
Felt like the sound when you're falling to a deep abyss and it's game over.
my headphones started vibrating from this one. i've listened to 4 and this is the only one thats done it so far.
Deep Note is the name of THX's audio logo, a distinctive synthesized crescendo sound. It was created by Dr. James A. Moorer,] then an employee of the Lucasfilm Computer Division, in late 1982. The sound is used on trailers for THX-certified movie theatres, home video releases, video games and in-car entertainment; it debuted in the THX trailer shown before the 1983 premiere of Return of the Jedi in Los Angeles.

I remember back in the 90's I bought a Pioneer Dolby surround reciever a hi-fi stereo vcr a bottom firing subwoofer and a copy of Jurassic Park on vhs tap and would listen to the THX logo at the begiinning of the movie over and over because it just sounded cool especially that low note that drops an octave at the end. It would litterally make the floor shake. I'm sure the neighbors loved it.
Independence Day was the first time i consciously remember hearing this sound. That movie was fucking awesome! I did so many chores to buy the VHS. The box had that cool lenticular thing that showed the white house before and after the laser blast. Good times.

DESCRIPTION BROUGHT TO YOU BY ME AND AUDIOVISUAL IDENTITY DATABASE:
It starts off with a group of 30 descending voices reminiscent of an airplane flying.
Each voice moves slowly and randomly in a frequency between 200hz and 400hz,
Then eventually,
All the voices proceed to their 11 target notes - a drastic change of 3 octaves as they get louder and louder.
The lower voices grow deeper, and the higher notes grow more shrill, becoming an ascending yet loud sound until all the sounds stop and stay at only one pitch.
Three voices are heard per note, slightly detuned, and two more voices are heard in the bass.
Then as it ends, it slowly fades out.
What the hell this sounds more terrifying then the original
This *_IS_* the original.
Pity this is in YT's joint stereo format. We need the original archived in a public domain location for all to enjoy and use as a calibration point.
