This is a beautiful film that told a wonderful story with dignity and respect. It was so well acted and it deserves to be appreciated as one of the great films of the e 20th century. Kindness and compassion can change minds, hearts, and lives. That's a message this world needs! It's well presented in this film.
My dad and grandmother both lived with dementia at the end of their lives and it's just the worst. To lose your loved one before their body is gone is a living nightmare.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I remember going to see it with my grandmother after my granddad died of dementia. We all cried. Hoke is best friend goals. Such a sweet story.
Great reaction to an Oscar winning classic....if you want to see another great movie with Jessica Tandy (and one that she made with her real life husband, Hume Cronyn) is *Batteries Not Included (which was also produced by Steven Spielberg). It is an 80s movie definitely worth watching that not many reactors on RUclips have done yet.
I don't watch this movie often because it's so very sad and sweet, I always cry. I enjoyed your heartfelt reaction and also sharing your personal story with us. I hope you have a wonderful day!
You really just never know do you? I had absolutely no interest in seeing this at the theater but I went with a good friend of mine and i was moved to tears! No wonder it won The Oscar for Best Picture!
"Did I ever tell you about the first time I ever been outside the state of Georgia?" "No, when was that?" "Oh, a few minutes ago." Fun Fact: Theatrical film debut of Jen Harper, uncredited. Music Enthusiast Fact: Hans Zimmer's score was done completely with synthesizers, all of which he played. No orchestra was used. Historical Fact: The Temple bombing took place in 1958. The Martin Luther King Jr. meeting in Atlanta took place in January, 1960. Alfred Uhry based the story of Daisy and Hoke on his own grandmother Lena G. Fox (August 5 1877 - Feb 22, 1973) and her chauffeur Will Coleman (dates unknown). She lived to the age of 96. Three black men are seen crossing railroad tracks in Atlanta. All three of these men are descendants of Will Coleman, which the "Hoke" (Morgan Freeman) character was based upon. Accolades Fact: Jessica Tandy won the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Daisy Werthan. At age 81, she is the oldest winner of a Best Actress Oscar. She was the oldest winner for a competitive Oscar until 2012 when Christopher Plummer won Best Supporting Actor for Beginners (2010) at age 82. Features Dan Aykroyd's only Oscar nominated performance. The film is the only adaptation of an off-Broadway production ever to win an Academy Award for Best Picture. One of only six films to win an Academy Award for Best Picture without also being nominated for Best Director.
Jessica Tandy just impressed me. To see her disintegrate over the course of the movie as she ages, the subtle and unexpected character changes, just a work of art.
This and "The Hunt for Red October" were among my dad's favorites. He passed in 2008 after various health issues at the age of 58. He had non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the early 90s and a spate of others issues afterward. What killed him was congestive heart failure. When I watch these movies, I get a piece of him back.
This easily could be a boring movie, but the performances of Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman have turned it into a story of a beautiful friendship. Just love this one.
This was a Pulitzer prize winning play before the movie. I saw it performed in NYC in a cool theater-in-the-round where there was no set, only four chairs on the center platform.
Great reaction. My parents had taken me to see this when it came out. I lost my dad last September from Parkinson's and dementia. Towards the end of the movie when Miss Daisy is confused, got me too.
Very true! Our prejudices can come in many different ways as well. It's so important to listen to others and learn to overcome our "default perspective".
@@CasualNerdReactionsI'm like you in that the idea of this movie didn't appeal to me, but boy am I glad I watched it here with you... and I'm going to find it and watch it with my kids and family. Thanks Chris!
First time seeing this movie. It was a great story, very sweet. I like seeing the progression of their relationship through the years. Very touching. On a personal note I hope your father is doing ok. It's good to hear he has a sense of humor.
I saw this in it's initial theatrical release. It took hold of the audience and never let go. The raw emotion was palpable in the theater. I've seen it many times since and it's still just as powerful.
Oddly enough I actually planned to watch Fried Green Tomatoes the day I watched this, but I think it had just been removed from the streaming service so I watched this. One day I'll finally see it.
She was the original Blanche Dubois in Tennessee William's play Street Car Named Desire opposite Marlon Brando dirrcted by Elia Kazan. Why was the reaction so far from the posting?
I love your channel because you are clearly a really good man. the way you respond to movies, shows us the way you respond to life. and it is clear that you are really good man. the world is so angry and so mean right now in america. it is very comforting to see evidence that old-fashioned good folk with good souls still exist. thank you so much for your postings. they have become a friendly place for me to go, where I can feel welcomed. thanks.
An awesome reaction to a wonderful movie!! My oldest sister had GBS and lost her battle to it 2 years ago. It's not a well known affliction and can be devistating. My other sister took care of her for the 8 years she had it. I understand what your family is dealing with and am sending many thoughts and prayers to you all. It is great to hear your Dad is keeping his sense of humor. Much love to you 💜💜💜
I love Driving Miss Daisy another great movie with Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates is Fried Green Tomatoes you should check it out as another awesome time piece flick.
Yeah, this film chokes me up. I was with you throughout. As Orson Welles said about acting, it's not enough for performances to seem real; they must feel true. Movie suggestion: GRAN TORINO (2009)
This movie was on TV a lot when I was growing up and I always enjoyed it, I think I grew up being slightly uncomfortable dealing with the subject matter and basically just what a tender movie it is (there was enough peer pressure at the time that that was considered weak or effete or what have you), but in hindsight that was me being underdeveloped and now it's just wonderful. A simple plot summary doesn't sound too enticing but "It sucks you in" as you said. They did a great job of using the Miss Daisy character to show growth from "I'm not prejudiced" in thought to "I'm not prejudiced" in action.
Love this one. Another vehicle for Jessica Tandy is Fried Green Tomatoes. Also Kathy Bates it's a flashback story that deeply influences the contemporary story line. Don't want to say too much, but it's a great comedy drama One of my mother's earliest memories was being in large cardboard box at the end of a cotton row. That's were women put the babies who are to young to go off and play. Those cardboard boxes weren't segregated. Many have noted that when MLK was killed he was planning The Poor People's March on Washington.
I’m so glad to see someone enjoying this movie 🥰 It is literally one of my top 3 faves. I could watch it anytime and still get all the feels… even though I know and anticipate all the lines 😅 It’s just a well put together story with lots of little funny moments and enough historical context to make it realistic; without being too heavy. I LOVE it 🫶🏾
Jessica Tandy I recommend Batteries Not Included, Fried Green Tomatoes and Nobody's Fool 1994, which is Jessica Tandy's last movie it also stars Bruce Willis, Paul Newman, Melanie Griffith, Margo Martindale and a very early role for Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I recommend all 3.
I first saw this play in nyc with Morgan Freeman and Dana Ivey. it was marvelous, and very moving. they did a wonderful job with this film. the acting is on the highest level. I am so glad that Morgan Freeman got to do the movie, often the actors who originate the roles onstage, don't end up getting to do the movie. and then I was so thrilled that Jessica Tandy got this last great role and won her Oscar. she was a brilliant actress, but she had never gotten that important role in film that she deserved. Jessica Tandy was the only original leading cast member of the stage production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE that didn't get to do the film. The great Vivienne Leigh had done the role of blanche onstage in London, plus she was also a genuine movie star. She is brilliant casting as blanche, but I did always feel bad for Tandy. luckily, the movie of STREETCAR is one of the great dramatic movies to ever come out of Hollywood. And quite a good adaptation of the play, especially for the time with the Hayes code stipulations and such. so many good actors. so many great movies. amazing.
Impressive that your pop kept a sense of humor through GBS. My roommate, who suffered from it, told me it was terrifying. And I love that your impression of your pa sounds like Dan Aykroyd from this!
You should consider watching "Nobody's Fool." It stars Paul Newman as an average guy in a small town trying to get by. It includes Jessica Tandy's final performance. Bruce Willis is in it in a supporting role. It is also has Phillip Seymour Hoffman in a very small role before anyone knew who he was.
I actually have a full movie reaction to that one as an exclusive on Patreon. It might make its way to RUclips eventually. I enjoyed it, but not as much as this.
Thanks for the great reaction! I love watching movie reactions and Driving Miss Daisy is overlooked by the ones I watch frequently. It’s refreshing to see someone who isn’t overly focused on the racial overtones in this film. You don’t cast judgment or aspersions on that part to the detriment of enjoying the film, as a whole. At the same time, you highlight the injustice of it. The few reactions I’ve seen can’t get past that and they end up disliking the movie, itself.
A great film. I’ve seen it several times and it always gets me. I had to help my wife eat when she was having health issues, and it was SO hard to do without crying. I had to be strong for her, but later I wept when I was alone.
Good analysis. There's still racism institutionalized in this country. A similar film age-wise is the 1994 "Guarding Tess" starring Nicolas Cage and the great Shirley MacLaine.
Mississippi tried to bring back-JIM-CROW-laws there earilier this year, but, the black citizens there put it to rest through protests. But,just the fact they tried it at all is-CRAZY. This is 2023 not 1856.

This film is really bringing out your Southern accent. As I just watched your Key Largo reaction before this, I realized you're from Florida (though I thought I heard a hint of Sourhern accent in other videos).
Oh anytime there are southern characters it comes out and I can’t stop. There’s a couple western type flicks coming up and it’s the same. Especially on Maverick (Friday), although I was just having a good time with that one.
For a minute there I thought the title was from another film , an adult film I saw once , not all of it , it was called R!ding Miss Daisy, good thing I was wrong , lol lol !!!
I saw this movie when it first came out. As a black person who was raised during Jim Crow I am 75 years old. My family on both sides has it roots in Slavery. There are many problems. But most reoccurring is that Morgan used the "Negro" voice -- subservient and deferential. My father and grandfathers did not talk that way. I stopped watching your reaction halfway through -- it was all I could take of the movie. Here is another movie put out the same year that I recommend - "Do the right thing" by Spike Lee.
I think I'd enjoy them both, but If I ever react to Moonlight I don't think I'll be able to resist saying "today we're watching la la land" in the intro...
24:50... It wasn't just about choosing business first. That business is what allowed him to feed his family. And it was also about their safety bc of probable repercussions. And being Jewish made it more difficult. Where I grew up in the south in the 60s, there was more hatred of Jewish ppl then black ppl, by whites. ... Enjoyed ur reaction. Haven't seen this film since it came out.
It's a shame that reactors don't watch this movie more as it won Best Picture, Screenplay, Makeup and Best Actress, and got nominations for Best Actor and Supporting Actor as well. It's a moving portrait of a friendship built up over years.
For whatever reason, this comment made me bust out laughing, thank you. 🤣 Can’t be a con though, I deliver exactly what I say. (Although I prefer to call it watching WITH me 😉)
so you have somehow missed the rise and rise of the "reaction channel" on RUclips?? there are so many! people react to music, to movies, to real life events-like news clips that show us who were the heroes on the day of 9/11. people react to comedians, to food, to real estate. and most channels don't actually "charge" per se to see their content. one can usually see their reactions in a bit of an abbreviated way on their respective RUclips channels for free. however if one wants to see a more extensive version of their reaction to something, usually you have to join their patreon channels, which does indeed cost something extra. chris is right though-he is no "con". he is completely honest about what he has on his channel. and one doesn't have to spend a dime to enjoy his response to movies, music. and events.
@@CasualNerdReactions that is why you are a good guy through and through. your response is to see the hilarity of this comment, as opposed to feeling criticized or such. right on!

For a minute there I thought the title was from another film , an adult film I saw once , not all of it , it was called R!ding Miss Daisy,
good thing I was wrong , lol lol !!!
Did you just unlock a new idea for reaction videos? 🤔 (Nah🤣)
@@CasualNerdReactions Na , don't do that dude ,I was just making a vulgar joke .
Sorry about that , enjoy the movie !
I love that movie
I saw this movie when it first came out. As a black person who was raised during Jim Crow I am 75 years old. My family on both sides has it roots in Slavery. There are many problems. But most reoccurring is that Morgan used the "Negro" voice -- subservient and deferential. My father and grandfathers did not talk that way. I stopped watching your reaction halfway through -- it was all I could take of the movie.
Here is another movie put out the same year that I recommend - "Do the right thing" by Spike Lee.
Same. I certain group of people love when black people use that voice. Just love it!
I would like to request a reaction to Ed Wood from 1994, and Moonlight from 2015.
I think I'd enjoy them both, but If I ever react to Moonlight I don't think I'll be able to resist saying "today we're watching la la land" in the intro...
@@CasualNerdReactions 😂
Others that are great stories and characters to move your soul - A River Runs Through It, Big Fish, and The Fisher King.
Fried Green Tomatoes must watch
Nice video nice MOVIE
'Promo sm' 🌹
😒
It's a shame that reactors don't watch this movie more as it won Best Picture, Screenplay, Makeup and Best Actress, and got nominations for Best Actor and Supporting Actor as well. It's a moving portrait of a friendship built up over years.
You charge people to watch YOU watch movies? What a con job.
For whatever reason, this comment made me bust out laughing, thank you. 🤣 Can’t be a con though, I deliver exactly what I say. (Although I prefer to call it watching WITH me 😉)
so you have somehow missed the rise and rise of the "reaction channel" on RUclips?? there are so many! people react to music, to movies, to real life events-like news clips that show us who were the heroes on the day of 9/11. people react to comedians, to food, to real estate. and most channels don't actually "charge" per se to see their content. one can usually see their reactions in a bit of an abbreviated way on their respective RUclips channels for free. however if one wants to see a more extensive version of their reaction to something, usually you have to join their patreon channels, which does indeed cost something extra.
chris is right though-he is no "con". he is completely honest about what he has on his channel. and one doesn't have to spend a dime to enjoy his response to movies, music. and events.
@@CasualNerdReactions that is why you are a good guy through and through. your response is to see the hilarity of this comment, as opposed to feeling criticized or such. right on!
