Dave, in cub scouts, weblos, and boy scouts, I struggled the most with knots... now that I'm in my mid 50s... things are easier and I understand alot more! Tbh, I still struggle with weaving and things like this... but this I understand! So thank you for teaching "the mentally knot/weaving challenged!!
It's really cool to see you talking about the sling. It's a simple weapon but has a fascinating history. I'm happy that people are becoming more and more interested in it.
attach a walking stick to that sling, and power up that sling into a two handed catapult rock thrower. simply cut in a small circumphrance recess about 2 inches down from the end of the thick end of the stick. attach one part of the sling there with a jam knot, like the Canadian jam knot. Then cut sort of a seven knotch on the tip, making it almost like a soft hook on the end of the stick there to hold the other part of the sling which would simply have a loop, like a bowline. hook the loop on the 7 knotch hook part, put a rock in the sling, and catapult the rock forward. practice to see how it works. the string releases from the stick when the stick begins or is facing forward, and the hook end can be steeper or shallower to adjust it for the release. This staff sling is much much easier to launch rocks than a hand sling, and I believe is far m ore powerful, and can even accomodate larger rocks almost to fist size. I use leather for the rock holder portion and form it into sort of a cupped shape by slicing the leather strip in a little but on bit end sides, in the middle. I have found that somewhat flatter oval rocks work extremely well, since they tend to helicopter in flight causing increased distance, but any rock will do.
I like that style better than the simpler version I had been using from paracord channels, more cordage in the belly of the sling pouch instead of a single line thru the middle seems much more reliable. Good stuff brother many thanks!
🎉 Great Video Dave! Was thinking of something like this using paracord after the long video braiding Jute Twine. While the Jute Twine sling was super retro and cool... this is the Quick and dirty version.🎉
Gauged ammon greatly increases your odds of succes. Grandma told me that Grandpa hunted quail during the german occupation with a sling and bolt nuts, or ball bearings.
These videos are perfect timing. I was just thinking that as a DIY in the woods ranged weapon a sling is a great way to go, now I just need to practice lol.
Really good video! Dave Lots of good information and instruction on how to make your own sling . It looks like with a little personal adjustments and and trial and error?? You can find tune your own sling.
I really need an intervention!! I LOVE SELF RELIANCE OUTFITTERS!!! Best gear on the planet!!!👍🏿💯❤️🇺🇸 thank you so much brother Dave Canterbury 💯💯💯👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Judges 20:16 (NKJV) Among all this people were seven hundred select men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair's breadth and not miss.
Love these last two videos regarding slings Dave! Could you show how to weave a pocket, much like one of the examples shown in your thumbnail? Thanks much for continuing to share your knowledge with us.
I watched your channel for years, I remember your bandana sling. I was wondering how long it would take for you to enter the slinging world. I can tell from experience its not a easy tool/weapon to master. People need to practice, practice and when you got it down.....practice some more. I learned of my grandad when I was 8/9 , I'm 57. Grandad was accurate an could hit a can at 70ft. He taught me the irish way of the sling as he was taught by kin in southern Ireland. Please you tennis balls, it's weapon of war an not a toy or gimmick......it needs respect.
Would love to watch you do a video on what you might hunt in a survival situation and how you would hunt with it assuming that you did have the skill of accuracy already mastered
Maybe Dave will get into the atlatl next.... They are an ancient & simple, (yet deadly with practice) down & dirty hunting/survival weapon when paired up with a couple of simple throwing spears/darts.
Please be conscious of the lighting when showing how to do things. The sun is behind you, and putting you in shadow makes it hard to see the procedure of making the sling.
Thank you for your views and your support!

Slings are common in North Africa ! I'll make another one pretty soon. Still have the leather pouch of my first slingshot... I'll make one as well 🫡

Master survival has nothing on Dave Canterbury, this man breaths Bushcraft and has the best classes on line, appreciate u Dave.
One of the first videos I saw of yours was improvised projectiles. Always loved those early archery and budget gear vids.
Thanks Dave! This is one of the most user friendly sling videos that I have ever seen.
Dave with a buck knife!? Thats something i never thought id see! I love my bucks as well!
Nice one Dave, good info. I like that you look like a kid with a new toy, you seem to really enjoy using that thing!
Hes so much nicer on his RUclips channel 😂 but always informative ass hell definitely a go to for me
Wait! Is that a Buck 110 folder? Nice!

Nice follow-up to yesterday's video. Thanks Dave!!!
Made one today. I closely copied your leather pouch style. Having a lot of fun!
Thanks for sharing!

Took me six minutes and eight seconds to realize it wasn't a arm you were making.
Guess I'm tired :-) Fun video and a cool project to do.
Awesome intel! I just made two while sitting in the dump truck at work
Downloading this one for later reviewing in front of my cordage!
Thanks Dave I'm a big fan!!!
Being an instructor suits you well , you're really apt to teach and impart knowledge I value , thank you sir .
AWESOME simple sling! GENIUS!
❤ your videos. I'm in Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome video! Enjoyed seeing the ol’ lock back in action!

You've inspired me to make my first one.
I love it Dave!! I gotta build me one! I’ll bet one could be deadly accurate & effective with this!👍👍😁🇺🇸
Nice concise and well done demonstration video.
This is outstanding, Sir!
The sling works. I left a bit longer tail and my Lab has to run 3x farther to get the tennis ball.
Greetings from the ozark mountains. Arkansas side!
Thank you David!
Great video. I just whipped up one of these while I was laying in my hammock and watching the video. Great information sir.
That is one cool target for the sling 😮
These videos are perfect timing. I was just thinking that as a DIY in the woods ranged weapon a sling is a great way to go, now I just need to practice lol.
Dave is the King
Great to see you melt the Paracord ends. I see so many RUclips bush crafters/survivalist that carry lighters but have frayed Paracord ends. 😊
I remember years ago when you used a cotton bandanna for a sling.
Love these how to's
Thanks for the info
Put the sling on the end of a "staff" and multiply the force.
You’re pretty accurate with that
Really good video! Dave

That’s awesome
Fun little project. Love it.
Cool. I'm going to make on this evening since I have a bunch of paracord. Then practice until I can hit stuff consistently. Thanks Dave.
im glad your vids aint hour long. l like more shorts too. Shorts keep subs.
Excellent tip!
Thank You.
Judges 20:16 (NKJV) Among all this people were seven hundred select men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair's breadth and not miss.
Could you do this with some bank line or would that be too thin?
Love these last two videos regarding slings Dave! Could you show how to weave a pocket, much like one of the examples shown in your thumbnail? Thanks much for continuing to share your knowledge with us.
Ok, that was cool. Have paracord sitting beside me and made one on the second watch through, Now to go practice!
That would be great on the golf course ⛳
Dave é o rei. 👍

Was that a Buck 110 "survival knife"? ;)
nice!
That is frickin
Cool!
Force multiplier!!!
Hunting that fits in a pack. Nice.
Thanks Dave
Was that a buck 110?
👍👍👍
Thx Dave
Would love to watch you do a video on what you might hunt in a survival situation and how you would hunt with it assuming that you did have the skill of accuracy already mastered
Very quick to make. I like it.
Wouldn't it be nice if it was also as quick to gain accuracy and proficiency with it. 😂
interesting, as a kid we used tongues from worn out boots and laces.
Making a survival sling - 5 minutes
Becoming good enough to use it - 30 years
Maybe Dave will get into the atlatl next.... They are an ancient & simple, (yet deadly with practice) down & dirty hunting/survival weapon when paired up with a couple of simple throwing spears/darts.
Is the proper technique underhand, overhand or sort of a side-arm throw? You seem to be doing underhand or side-arm.
In the interest of multipurpose items, the cloth covid masks and some paracord can be used to make a sling....
You got to practice alot.
can that golf ball end a Rabit or a Pidgeon?
Using the sling I mean...
Please be conscious of the lighting when showing how to do things. The sun is behind you, and putting you in shadow makes it hard to see the procedure of making the sling.
After scrolling through a lot of crap I came to your video, ah so nice. I’m a subscriber but RUclips never prioritizes my subscriptions. 🙁
Could possibly kill a gaint
With a lot of practice that will definitely put a rabbit in the stew pot.
Count your swing the faster the more accurate,,,
lol I clicked on it thinking it was a sling pack.
Good video. But a buck 110. Not any other knife you sell.
Gotta spread the love, can’t speak to it if you haven’t used it, that is the problem with many they afraid of change
thats cool and handy :)
Thanks Dave
👍👍👍
