I have been using the MPC's since the 2000 came out and then the 4000. My production was cut short in 2009 and them along with the rest of my studio arsenal was lockup. I just pulled my MPC4000 out of storage and found the screen damaged. Ordered a new replacement screen on ebay, and saw the MPC X. I had to have one. I purchased 1 a month old for 900.00 and lost my mind after looking at your just now. I'm 60 plus years young and because of your tutorial im going to buy me a home and grab my studio out of storage I'm coming out of music retirement and try to make some noise. Thank you for the wake-up to the new MPC X. I went on purchased a MPC LIVE2 that I found to be portable and is baby brother to the X. I would like to learn more knowledge from you on theses MPC's. I've recommend many to your site. It's been so long out of the game. You made it easy and fun again. Thanks Ken
Awesome video DLPeace. That's where the magic is at - creating your own sound by layering and being original with your production. Great breakdown on how to do this step by step. Being able to do this just opens up so many doors. Thanks for sharing.
I completely forgot I could make my own Expansions. Thank you for this. I had just been saving my kits to a Project, and cloning that stuff for a new track
Some of the sounds sound different when you preview them because you don't have warp turned on where you see all the preview options at the bottom of the browser. It plays some of the samples out of tempo that's why they sound different.
This is one of the most informative videos that I have seen. I just bought an Akai MPD218. I used to cut and paste drums into GarageBand for my first three albums. Thanks for the info!
The samples sound different when you drop them individually because when you load the whole program from the expansion, it includes all the program edit settings like envelopes and effects and stuff. Good tutorial though, thanks for making it man.
I know this is old but also the reason why it sounds different is because the warp/sync is turn on at the bottom of the browser, the sample is playing on time with the BPM and not its actual length.
It worked , I have over 400 gigs of drums , instruments and chords and now I have a few expansions that work like the kind you would pay for . I even designed the cover to look like it lol .
This is crazy this video should have gotten way more likes than this you showed me so much in just one video when other RUclipsrs show one thing at a time thank you my brother
SIR YOU ARE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL GENUIS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE I CANNOT SAY OF ANYONE THAT HAS A BETTER DEMOSTRATION OF THE INSIDE FEATURES OF THIS SOFTWARE AND YOU DID IT PERFECTLY JOB THUMBS UP & SUBSCRIBED
DL Peace, you just GOT DOWN with this Video. I'm new to the MPC Game, but this is definitely a GAME CHANGER and something - EVERYONE - should be doing. Again, thanks for taking off ON US from the Free Throw Line - BOO YAH!!!!!!!!!!
Dude! This video was extremely insightful! I have been using MPC Beats for just over a year and whilst, I have substituted the occasional kick or snare or whatever into the preset kits, I never thought of making my own custom kit from scratch! Thanks so much, man! Keep your videos comin'.
You can find plenty of free 808/909/etc kits online. That's the base that the sound packs are built on. It's all about taking those 808 kicks and making them slam. EQ, distortion, and compression/limiting will take a stock 808 kick sound and make it thump. Do the same to a 909 kick and layer the two (808 and the 909) and you'll have a thermobaric hammer. You don't even need any special software. Get a vanilla open source DAW and some 808/909 samples and you've got a serious drum machine. The samples and sounds that come with these various software are just marketing to help sell the software. It's rarely of any real use. Good for getting your head around the program, but making real music means making real sounds. The real power isn't in any loop packs, the power is all the VST synths and effects at your disposal. That's how you take the stock classic drum machine sounds and make them your own. Get good enough with the synths and you won't even need base samples to work with. ;)
Man , im new to this and you just explained some questions i had. Like how to build my own kit ( cuz right now im searching the hell for sounds ) and i didnt knew about layering. Thanks from the netherlands 👍
This is very informative. Thank you. The only difference is that I personally would not name the video How To Use Your Expansion Pack The Right Way. I think that creating your own kit would have been more accurate. Im a firm believer that there is no real "right way" to do anything when it comes to creating music. I understand what you were saying tho. Respect G..... Keep up the good work.
The best video I’ve seen for new new users in the MPC world. Good looken. I finally understand what “programs” mean. Only thing is the pads on my mpk3 mini are scattered. Like Pad 1 doesn’t match the pad 1 on my mpc beats software.
Insane. Three years ago? I missed it. 🐶I never knew you could do this in Beats. Wow. I plan to create packs with photos of all the dogs I ever owned, seriously, thanks SO MUCH for this. Priceless. If you were taking cash I'd send some.
DL... much love. MPC studio MK2 or MPC2 software has the Pad Color menu hidden in layers. It can be found @Top left (3 horizontal lines) menu-->Edit-->Program-->Pad Color. new windows user.
Made it happen! NEXT tried 2 add another drum kit to the same folder(wonka)--so I could have two kits under the same project drop-down? Using expansion builder I could NOT find a work around. Can you add your expertise to this matter. Thank you DLPeace.Out.
Greetings D, I am new to the mpc. I have purchased the MPC ONE. I have a 2017 I MAC. I am a big fan of your video shows. I am try to use VST with the MPC software, for example a EQ, also I would like to use other VST to make a beat. I have scanned the VST which I installed, but can’t see it in the plugin VST List. D please could you make a video showing how to put 3rd party VST’s into the MPC software. Kind regards from Errol in the uk from London England. Blessings mi brother.
Turn the warp feature on when your previewing samples. This will fix the issue with it sounding different in the preview window vs when it's loaded on the pad.
What's up Di just described to your channel thanks for the information. I was thinking maybe those sounds sound different when you load them onto a pad because maybe there are some pre effects that may be taking place. Try figuring out a way to initialise the complete session. I've been on the mpc for about one month so I may not know much but thanks for your information.
Couple of things I’d like to add.. 1.are sample packs copyrighted material... 2. one thing when you are using sampled packs....you don’t know how the content was created.. You hear the end result...but how was it made and what notes make up that kick or snare etc... That’s why kicks and snare sound different because of how it’s made and the (key) that was use to make that sound.... if you don’t know how that sound was made and you start layering sounds the (key) A sharp minor B-Flator F key etc. used to make the sound will clash with your whole project.... you’ll notice something may sound off but can’t figure out what it is.... it’s because a lot of things go into making a kick or snare ... the sound itself could clash with other kick drum or instruments because whomever made that sound used different notes to but that sound...
“Used other notes to build that sound” typo... The best way to do what you’re explaining is to learn how to build your own sounds from scratch, that’s what all those producers did that you mentioned at the beginning of your video...
Thanks a lot for this video! I was looking up for this, but also... "How to have/configure my "main samples + loops collecton folder" to have right at my finger tips like in FL Studio, so I can use them and not only the MPCBeats expantions packs and samples? Thank in advance if you can make that tutorial. Have a great day!
Nice...for those who don't know, you can also hold down the Shift key and drag a sample to a pad that already has a sample to layer them.
this is HUGE :O THANK YOU
🤯
Been wondering about this since I bought my MPK Mini lol
Thank You!!!!

Ooh man, thank you! xD
Also cuz of holding the button down right ?
I'm a beginner, so you droppin jewels. Thank you
Thax mate. your stuff is awesome. All the way from South Africa! This is my go-to video!
I'm totally new to MPC/Akai, and watched over 100 videos. This was the most helpful as far as what to do with expansion packs. Thank you, brother!
I just stumbled on this video today. All I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is a game-changer
for me.
This is one of the most informative videos that I have seen. I just bought an Akai MPD218. I used to cut and paste drums into GarageBand for my first three albums. Thanks for the info!

Good tutorial though, thanks for making it man.
Didn't know that thanks a lot appreciate it boss
So now I just got to figure out how to copy the effects and stuff.
I know this is old but also the reason why it sounds different is because the warp/sync is turn on at the bottom of the browser, the sample is playing on time with the BPM and not its actual length.
I just bought my first Akai MPK Mini and learning how to use MPC beats thank you so much for making this video! It’s incredibly helpful

Greetings D, I am new to the mpc.
I have purchased the MPC ONE.

I am a big fan of your video shows.
I am try to use VST with the MPC software, for example a EQ, also I would like to use other VST to make a beat.
I have scanned the VST which I installed, but can’t see it in the plugin VST List.

great video
Turn the warp feature on when your previewing samples. This will fix the issue with it sounding different in the preview window vs when it's loaded on the pad.
thank you sir! if you want to add more samples to the pack, how do you then save them to your sample pack?
good job 👁👏
Intelligent,got it clear
Thanks DL ✌🏾
Thank u for this 👍
I love it.
Man I have been trying to find you since the beat Thang
THANKS KING!
My man. Keep it p!
Did you make a video of how to put samples separately in that pack you made??
What's up Di just described to your channel thanks for the information.
I was thinking maybe those sounds sound different when you load them onto a pad because maybe there are some pre effects that may be taking place.
Try figuring out a way to initialise the complete session.

DOPE!!!! I AGREE 100%
I totally see a purpose for this n its cool but for your own sound might as well just save a couple kits or one kit with several banks.
