      Cheers, Peter, it's just a shame that it seems so fleeting. In fact, the seasons appear to get shorter every year.

      I did leave wondering if I should have fished that last pool? It always catches me out because it seems really dark on the stream but was still quite light once back in the fields.

      Its surely tough to fish in dim light, tonight I just had an inkling something happened to the klinkhammer, it must have sucked it down without making a ripple. In shallow water the bigger trouts seem to be very wary in daylight. 2 weight for the day and 5 weight for when darkness appears. It made two runs and then the fly let loose. Hats off for the trout😊

      @tomdemianvingsgard4532 it's funny Tom how you can sometimes sense a rise in the gloaming without seeing it. I've often not known why I've struck, but there must have been some clue that your instinct noticed, but your eyes didn't. Exciting stuff. It was a shame the trout got away, but the experience didn't 👍

    As we all know…all flyfishing is relative Chris. A small rain fed river in August, delightful and delicate upstream casts with a dry fly. Ok …you may not catch a monster but I’m pretty sure you know that’s not why you do it. Another magical film with a cracking wild brownie to end it off. I love your films…..it reminds me of a time before I was seduced by stillwaters and high sticking with a French leader. Please keep up the great work 👍🎣

      That's the great thing about fly fishing and, in fact, all fishing, it means such different things to different people. I'm sure if I lived near a large midland still water or Irish/Scottish Lough/Loch, then I would be a boat fisher. Similarly, if I was based on the Usk, I'd be targeting larger trout and doing more short line nymphing techniques. As it is, my local streams are generally about light lines and dry flies for small trout with the odd better fish.
      Maybe one day...........

    One thought on tiny rods and streams, with the light rods you need to sense more, be in tune so to speak. As such there are ups and downs to them, they create emotional waves of their own. Coupled with a small stream with all its inherent obstacles and hindrances...when all pans out its an electric experience...

    You're doing much better than me, mate!
    I concentrated on sea trout through August, and it's been dour!
    Those big scum encrusted backwaters always look like they might throw up a monster, but on my river, I find trout don't lurk there, just a shoal of perch sometimes.
    Even coarse fishing in winter it tends to be more productive in the main flow.
    Hopefully a bit of fresh and a flourish to end the season?👍

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  4 месяца назад

      Hi Dave, I know a lot of the UK has had rain, but our streams down here are pretty stale now. We could do with a good flood to freshen things up before the season finishes.
      Interesting about the backwaters. Perhaps it's an oxygen thing? I have read about fish taking trapped insects out of the scum but personally, I've not seen this, have you?

    • @soultrader57fishingandmusi25
      @soultrader57fishingandmusi25 4 месяца назад +1

      Further north they've had good rain, but here it's largely missed, and the small lifts have just stirred up gunk instead of flushing it away.
      That backwater looked like the one in the original Mr Crabtree book 😂

    Experts make mistakes too, you know! Just like you a Kingfisher puts a smile on my face. Nicely done. How you getting on with the furreled leader?

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  4 месяца назад

      Yes, Martin, my excuse is too much enthusiasm 🤣
      I've been making and using thread furled leaders for about a dozen years now, and I do believe they have improved my fishing. The presentation and drag free drifts are unrivalled imo. Two caveats are you must treat the leader with a paste type floatant BEFORE fishing, and they do seem to have a magnetic attraction to the rod blank, which can be infuriating.

      I fished for Seatrout on the Teign years ago, and had some success. Alas, these days, the runs have seriously diminished, and you would have to really put in the hours to get a fish. As far as I'm aware, there are no Seatrout caught on the Crediton waters anymore. People used to catch them quite regularly, apparently. Another sign of the times.

    I know this kind of "slow fishing" with line around the rod from own experience 😂 - happens if one is too hasty in getting quick enough to the water

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  4 месяца назад
