Screw the LEDs, the buggers have a disproportionately high failure rate compared to tungsten - put some uprated tungsten bulbs in what you've got, if you feel the need, but forty plus years ago we were perfectly happy with the lighting kit that came as standard - Do people these days suffer from some sort of visual imparement? I remember our old Cropmaster had one headlight with a thirty watt bulb, and one ploughing light, also equipped with a thirty watt bulb. Sixty watts of illumination to cover both ends, and we managed perfectly well. I tell you straight, about 2005 we had a lad in the field next to us, and he was drilling winter wheat with his grey Fergy, by torchlight! Literally, one hand on the wheel, and the other holding the bloody torch - Not that I'd go that far meself, but he did it just the same!!
Yes if its not doing much night work, what came on it is just fine, good stuff Kurt, Puppo and Billy, looking forward to the end outcome, could be interesting👌👍🙏🙂
Both tractors are the nuts. Obviously the 8210 will win. Don’t embarrass the 7810 without weighing it up the same. Nothing beats the long wheel base throw. Love the collie dog.
I have to say, your dog’s expressions and actions stole the show at the end. Reminds me of my dog when I try to watch my phone and stop petting her. That looks like a nice original 7810, the 8210 is pretty sharp as well. It will come down to engine horsepower and traction. Either way, you get to enjoy some time in a 7810 or 8210. Thanks for the Videos, Lord Muck.
Good to see you eyeing up the enemy😅 look forward to the skirmish! On the lights, i'd keep the the old glow worms instead of Led's. Keep em coming M'lod! Cheers, Mike
Yes the standard lights are good and it's nice to keep old tractors original. The front weight is a good thing to have on a four wheel drive tractor , It helps keep the front wheels gripping. Be careful mucker those front tyres look a bit perished . Don't want one of those going bang when your near it.
No leds, but id stick some led warm white bulbs in the side lights to keep original look and brake and tail lights, they are the lights you'll typically have on the most👍
Keep the old girl with the lights she supposed to have without a doubt. I reckon a 78 and an 82 is as good as it gets from the 80s/90s awesome bits of kit.
No matter the outcome of the "Pull off", it will still be great and interesting to see the 7810 and 8210 go head to head. Can't wait! Keep them original. Although some new LEDs replacements are looking closer to the old types, they still spoil the look of the machine in my opinion.
Excellent video Lord Muck :) also yes Leds save power on plus not hard electrical systems compare stand lights and but if deadlines get crops helps out ! My neighbors told me went Leds on tractor plus combines plus trucks save hits deers and coyote animals last year doing work at night had do crops of corn , Soybeans, grains too! Also talk about Antifreeze mixs all depends on weather is going be on seasons use a tractor and combine plus trucks ! One summer season was hot one my dad said was serivce tractor also combine up 60 % Antifreeze, 40 % water for protection be sure help keep blowing over in rad but used bit more diesel fuel in tractor and combine was gas add 2 gallon of Desiel fuel to gas help staying cool in engine Antifreeze was fine burn 1 quart engine oil ever 8 day worth! But temperature was over 108'F that summer in daytime and nights! Even us humans was drinking lots water than normal Lol! Yes be repeated on that weather last 20 years my area of Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 too !
Ford 7910 , Back in the day we 8 of them in our hire fleet, Bloody Good Tractor in there day 🇬🇧👍🏻🚜 And We had a couple of 8210’s too, And love the videos keep them coming 👍🏻,,,,Well ours never gave us a spot of bother,,,, Please Don’t change to LED
No to the LED’s unless it’s a working tractor can be quite a harsh light n doesn’t go will the ye olde classic lines of the tractor…. Its gonna be a close pull between the two of those, but I agree with no two tractors the same experienced that on 956xls and recently when I drove my dads old 1594 compared to mine, mines pulls well but dads well worn tractor still felt snappier on the throttle really looking forward to this Ford Showdown
Great video, If it was me would leave all the lights original, think that’s better 😊👍I still thinking your 8210 will do the business, like you say , you can have many tractors of the same model but they end up all different 👍😊
Interesting comment about the coolant. In Canada I’m pretty sure we have been running 50/50 for a long time because of the colder winters and I don’t think the original Fords over here got porous blocks as often. That might be why. And stick to the original lights 👍
Great video (as ever), Kurt. Reminds me of when as a favour for a mate I carted a Nuffield front weight that he had bought from Peterborough to back home in the back of the car. Hand ball in, hand ball out! Vowed never to do that again! 😂
I borrowed a mates car when I was in New Zealand. Going round a mountain road on Mt Hutt on the South Island. The back end decides it wants to do its own thing, I gained control, stopped and opened the boot, full of Ford nose weights.
Best thing about buying old kit... or new come to that.. is you can do whatever you like to it if tour not intending to sell it on... nowt wrong with bringing a classic in to the modern life if its what you want and need.. mind an 8210 that I had a shot of was gutless compared to our 6300 valmet at the time.. and know of plenty 40 series going out well about there pecking order 😮😊. Stay safe 🏴
on my 82/7910's i changed the bulbs for led's, don't shine as far but brighter close up and my eyes don't like yellow light. i'm happy with them. i did change one set of headlights for led's but the wiring means i lost the option of main or dip so just have wire in for dip, just something for others to be aware of.
I had the hollow weight frame on my 7810 which let you transfer the weights forward without carrying extra dead weight, no idea if there was any advantage/disadvantage but I did like the styling of it.
Leave the lights original. Not worth the cost and buggering around for what you are doing with it . Thank you for another great video. Stay safe out there. Cheers
I would keep the light standard unless you’re gonna use it a lot more at night on road runs et cetera and also what is happening with the Ford 8100 wondering if I’ve missed a video if maybe you’ve sold it or whether it’s still in storage
Stay with the original lights apart from they look the part they are easier on the eyes as they have a much broader spectrum. No idea if those Fords have wet liners but I used to put chromed liners in Leyland engines and run on 50/50 coolant, thats chrome on the outside not inside the liners, the middle cylinders were a particular problem for cavitation on Leyland engines.
Concerning the lights.........if it ain't broke it don't need fixing. Concerning the extra weight for better grip, l was brought up on a farm and l can distinctly remember ( yes it was a long time ago late 70's ) all the tractors had the tyres 90% filed with water, not just because a lot of the land was very hilly but also for better grip, although l'm sure you know that already.
For the competition, I would fit the brightest LEDs on the back of the cab roof and use them as though you were lamping. That should dazzle Billy for a bit while you 'send it'. Otherwise leave the lights original.
i don't have any experience with your Ford tractor's there, but from what i hear, they're a good rig... Nice tractor you got ..put LEDs if it's gonna be a nocturnal worker, otherwise, leave it alone??.. idk, whatever ya think feller 👍👍👊🍻
I would recommend using a de ionised water / antifreeze mix in cooling systems rather than tap water because I think it helps avoid alot of the corrosion and cavitation problems. I’m pretty sure that was something that made coolguard in a John Deere such a good product aswell as the strength like you say. Could you water ballast the tyres on your 78 to give it a little bit of help?
my dad had a 2 wheel drive bubble cab 8210 genesis conversion because the original engine blew up and that pulled like a train but you couldn't stop if you had a load at least not doing 40 mph
Absolutely no! Do that and you will be hearing from my solicitors!!!! Conventional lights only on this tractor please. Glad you stuck with that tombstone . Its natural and far better than one stuck out on stalks. Bestest Ron
I think that the classic look of the tractor is lost when you install the led lights however when you need them the lumins form the led are fantastic so its only down to looks for me
Interesting video 🤔 rightly or wrongly still think the 78 gonna hold her own slightly shorter slightly lighter an the horsepower difference is really not huge 🙄 are the 2 tractors geared comparitively gearing could make a difference for getting that optimum performance 💪 as for the lights just leave her original in my opinion 🙄 really looking forward to this challenge 👌
I normally use led when I can not sure if anyone actually pays attention when switching your lights on but normally you will feel a dip in revs as you do so that it the alternator loading up to cope with the extra power needed to run the lights no that is taking power away from the engine and using more fuel with led lights you don't get anywhere nearby the draw so take less power from the engine so better response and lighter load on alternator uses less fuel hope that makes sense
I use led lights. Only use it 20 hours per year but it takes the strain off the eyes at night. But personally i think they spoil the look. There are some that look really good asthetically these days but even led lights with the original lenses over them look good in tbe day and are usable by night. You can always adjust the brightness like i do on my major with a for road use. And have them on max power for off road use.
Torque and traction win in a tug of war. The heaviest tractor will win unless you've got some weight transfer. From personal experience a dexta with a Ferguson hitch on the lift arms could pull the same weight as a 4 cylinder nuffield using it's drawbar.
A mate of mine had sealed beam head lights in his MK2 Escort and I said he should change em for Halogen lamps like mine, he said " they only get switched on once a year for test" he was right I suppose but also a tight git.
I remember years ago you never put a new tractor on corn/grass cart as they wouldn’t bed in properly. And now a days we have a brand new hire tractor on corn cart. Makes me feel old now 😢
Looks like you need to call your friends at Michelin. Adding a weight bracket from a different tractor if it fits I would say is a good idea. My Deutz Allis 9170 gets light in the front when running the lemken disc I got so I am looking for a larger weight bracket from a 8050 or 8070 Allis Chalmers. The Allis Chalmers guys would be pissed off if I ever managed to get one but I don't care. When it comes to the LEDs it's your tractor. Do what you want but the LEDs are better and never say never. Might end up in a situation where the tractor will get used heavy again just unlikely at this point.
Have a 7810 and like her with original lights have an 8340 new Holland and have put led lights all round as it will get used more at night and somehow feels a more modern tractor and suits them better might consider led head lights on the 7810 tho
Leave as is my lord as you aren’t going to use on daily basis also thank you for the video’s you do putting on this platform your doing a great job long may it continue 👏👏👏👌👍 🤪🔨
IIRC, the bolts that hold the tomb stone on are not 20mm, but imperial, yes? Is it 3/4 BSP? The used th same bolts on the 40 series too. Absolutely right to tap the threads out. I’m going to go against the flow and say change to LED (if it’s not going to break the bank). There will be that cold winter night when the 7810 is the tractor to go pull something out a ditch and you’ll be glad you had them
That little Robin singing in the background...Priceless 🙂 PS keep the lights original :)

Obviously you need a stainless straight pipe mucker 😂😂
Nice episode LM 👍
I've been around Ford and subsequent New Holland tractors here in the US almost all my life. Very interesting to see them in your part of the world
I would stick with the original lights. Enjoyed the video as always. Thanks.👍
Love the 10 series Fords !
What a fantastic time to own a tractor, everyone should have one.
Yes if its not doing much night work, what came on it is just fine, good stuff Kurt, Puppo and Billy, looking forward to the end outcome, could be interesting👌👍🙏🙂

I agree with you Mucker, I would use the standard lights and NOT the led,s
Leave the original lights on the 7810 Mucker! I like them both but I think yours is in better condition cab wise. Fenland Rob
Keep it standard save your money
Top video 🤠
Yes the standard lights are good and it's nice to keep old tractors original. The front weight is a good thing to have on a four wheel drive tractor , It helps keep the front wheels gripping. Be careful mucker those front tyres

They should have kept the lights in the grill. I like that look a lot better on the 78 vs the frame mounted ones on the 82.
😨 Go and sit in the corner and have a word with yourself !!!! You'll be buying a John Deere next !!
😆
No matter the outcome of the "Pull off", it will still be great and interesting to see the 7810 and 8210 go head to head. Can't wait!

Use the standard lights upgrade the bulbs maybe. You had a good look at the 8210 . A fine tractor great video Mucker 🚜👍🔧
Great video, keep it standard since you are not working nights. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼
Another great video, I would keep the light’s standard
The Dog yet again steals the show... Brill tho Mucker nice to see some of the light hearted clips back in your excellent videos.

I'm a purist, I say keep the lights original. 💡 I'll always like those Fords. Some of my favorite tractors.
Keep her standard mate. I’m looking forward to this test/competition. Maybe some new boots on the front of your might help 👍
Great video (as ever), Kurt. Reminds me of when as a favour for a mate I carted a Nuffield front weight that he had bought from Peterborough to back home in the back of the car. Hand ball in, hand ball out! Vowed never to do that again! 😂
They're a fair chunk Rob !
@@LordMuck Tell me about it! Just as well it was a company car! It's suspension & my back were never the same again! 😫😂

Keep it standard, LED's are just adding bling and then you'll want curtains, air horns and a Michelin Man on each mirror arm.

Great vid! Screw the LED’s
Just like my dash on my GMC pick up. Should be a $2 light bulb but now the gauge cluster has to be replaced
I upgrade with led bulps in the original housing.... especially for brakelights , blinkers....
LED brake light and indicators are brighter so good for safety on the road
Stay with the original lights apart from they look the part they are easier on the eyes as they have a much broader spectrum. No idea if those Fords have wet liners but I used to put chromed liners in Leyland engines and run on 50/50 coolant, thats chrome on the outside not inside the liners, the middle cylinders were a particular problem for cavitation on Leyland engines.

That's right - for proper protection de-ionised water and change it every two years was the thing.

No led. Can't help but notice is the red end of the shed empty? Even if she loses the 7810 is on a winner with getting the attention👌
No there's red at both ends and more due in
I think that the classic look of the tractor is lost when you install the led lights however when you need them the lumins form the led are fantastic so its only down to looks for me

Not that I know of, just what's on the net
Very hard to get info anywhere about them,no one seems to know what they worth ,i have 1

Keep standard lights - but install La Cucaracha Air Horn system for the inevitable victory celebration
Stay original and true to the time melod, that is my advice!
No to the LED'S, keep it standard save your money for the back window when the chain breaks on proving a point day. 🫣 🙊 all the best Henry

You ask what the dog is doing? Well he's lovin' up on you Lord Muck!!
Leave it Standard. They are a beautiful tractor
Great video mate 👍
Day in day out ? No. Night in night out? Hell yes !
Great video Mucker leave the lights original as no need to replace
Leave as is my lord as you aren’t going to use on daily basis also thank you for the video’s you do putting on this platform your doing a great job long may it continue 👏👏👏👌👍

IIRC, the bolts that hold the tomb stone on are not 20mm, but imperial, yes?
Is it 3/4 BSP?
The used th same bolts on the 40 series too.
Absolutely right to tap the threads out.
Hope you ain’t bet too many bottles of Scotch on winning the competition, Mucker!
Can’t wait to see the ‘lumps of coal’ coming out of the exhausts of both.
Yes that right 👍
3/4 unc
I think UNC sounds right Steve
Yes, now I think of of UNC rings a bell.
No L,E,D,s leave her as she is.
I like them left original. That ford is a beauty, leave lights factory.
Existing lamps are adequate, you are disadvantaged in this contest 👌
It's just a bit of fun
Wouldn’t bother if the lights work and they’re original. Probably stand out more with originals if everyone has changed over to led 😆
Great entertainment, original is best for that tractor.
Led all the time, even if you only use it once or twice in the dark.
If your not running it all night keep the lights stock how much difference is there in the gear box and would it change the outcome
Keep it original on the lighting can't wait for the pull😊
Great video - stick with the original lights for me!
The only thing that will give you the advantage 💪 it the straight pipe you know it make sense Kurt 😂🤣
Yes. Leave the candles as they are. Dont go down the Saunders route😂😂.
defo keep the lights standard looks much better 👍
Agree with you leaving it original, do you still have the yellow leyland/ Marshall?
Yes
what a cracking looking 8210
pmsl at the turbo editing haha
Would you Consider coming to the County of Salop Stream Rally 🤔 🧑🏻🌾 👍🏻
No, I have a TS100 and like to keep them standardi.its also not a ever day tractor
I’m going to go against the flow and say change to LED (if it’s not going to break the bank). There will be that cold winter night when the 7810 is the tractor to go pull something out a ditch and you’ll be glad you had them
If it's a cold winters night, the last thing I'm going out in is the 7810...
like your videos totaly diferemt subject my father drove a ford 8700 any imformationon your thoughts cheers
Watch one of my earlier 8100 videos
Lightbar , chrome exhaust pipe , LED whip-Ariel & full perimeter under-glow ....... some of the things that aren't going on it ?? lol
