Love seeing budget guitars being used for doom! It would be interesting if you did an Amazon Doom metal rig, a firefly guitar or something similar, some cheap fuzzes, and some kind of affordable amp. Maybe even a bass practice amp since it in theory would be cleaner and put out more low end 😂

I've got a 2017 G400 that I got for a steal because it had been sitting in the shop for three years. I threw a couple humbucker sized P90s in it and it sounds killer through some fuzz and a micro terror. Not as pretty as this one, though.
@@DoesItDoom Big fan of the channel, thanks for the awesome content! You, Fuzzlord Effects, and CSGuitars are probably my favorite channels on youtube right now
How's the balance on it? I had a g400 a long time ago and it sounded incredibly good, but it was too neck heavy so I ended up having to get rid of it because I was constantly fighting the headstock trying to dive all the time. I use a Japanese Les Paul copy now and the balance is much better.
@@DoesItDoom you should take it out into the forest somewhere at Golden hour and film some kind of epic drone riff with a giant stack or two behind you and that guitar. It'd look sick as fuck I think!
Such a sick sg! What’s your take on Harley Benton guitars Steve? I just received a HB DC-580 (their take on a sg with vintage style pickups) and I absolutely love it. I guess I have a soft spot for SG’s considering this is my 4th one I’ve owned. As always great video man, can’t wait for the next lesson!
They ain't too bad actually. I had a flying V from HB about ten years ago. It was cool fun though but If you wanna play proper get yourself a good old Epiphone (Korean production) either a SG or a Les Paul. You can't beat one of those and especially here in europe they're sold cheap as chips. I'm playin' a black Epiphone Les Paul from 1994. It's just kick arse. That thing runs through my Big Muff Op-Amp straight into my Orange OR15. I can tell ya the sound that comes out of it rings your balls. Pure hellfire, dude!
I had bought that same rat clone off of amazon....funny thing, i like it just as much as my duecetone in many situations. Excellent looking guitar.cool channel .appreciate the playaa
The Epi SG's that have the plastic tuner buttons don't have any noticeable neck dive; certain models that have Grover style metal tuners are very neck heavy.
I already got more guitars than I reasonably can justify, a Gibson SG Special and a heavily modified, Nitro refinished 2005 Epiphone G400 with P90 and a Bigsby among them, but goddamn this gold finish... Also: that Black Rat sounds like a steal. Got the Mooer from which this seems to be the clone, that one is more than double the price if I'm not mistaking. Anyone who does not already have like three RAT pedals this should be one absolute non-brainer!
Yeah, the aesthetics on this one sucked me right in. And you are definitely right about the Black Rat-an easy steal at $26, especially considering it contains an LM308 op-amp.
I just bought the Mooer Black Secret last week and I am loving it. I'm using an SX Furrian Tele copy tuned to Drop-C, and it us surprisingly quiet, even with the single-coil pickups in Turbo mode.
It was even more of a steal at the beginning of the year when the Black Rat was selling for $15 with free shipping from the US on ebay. The only problem with them is the super bright blue LED. I swear it's brighter than the normal annoyingly bright blue LEDs in other pedals. Also, I'm pretty sure Mosky pedals are Mooer factory seconds.
@@ViviSectia goddaaaamn. That is a hell of a deal for such a classic plaything, thats even cheaper than to built one yourself I guess, once you bought together all the pieces. I know that any DIY Kit costs a least 20 bucks without an enclosure. Always wanted to grab one of them "transparent" ODs but never for the kind of money you got to spent for a centaur clone. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

Please do an ESP Viper review. Preferably the japanese ones that were 2k or less sold between 2004 - 2010. 2007 was a ridiculous year for ESP. The standard Eclipse and Viper models they put out were just immaculate quality for a very reasonable price. Seriously. I owned an Cream colored Eclipse, while also owning a Gibson standard double cut and sold the Gibson after 2 weeks. Biggest mistake of my life (and I mean this being u can no longer find them at a reasonable price, if u can find them at all) was selling that bitch. Shouldn’t be much beyond the price of a setup. The nut slots needed to be adjusted to accommodate the 13-65 strings and I don’t have a set of nut slot files so I had to take it in. Think it was $80.
I got a black SG Pro for $159 at a pawn shop. I'm putting GFS Crunch Pats in mine. I'm going to move the strap button to the upper horn, move the jack to the side and put a kill switch where the jack used to be, and get a brass nut for it.

Just saying, those orange crush amps are wonderful little jazz amps in addition to being heavy beasts.Volume knob at max, gain knob at 1-3, guitar volume knob set at 1-4. You get some wonderful sounds reminiscent of Joe pass and Herb Ellis. And just a pedal click and knob roll away from doom setting.
I would call it a medium “D”. It’s not chunky but not what I would consider slim either. It feels like an early 60’s Gibson neck, maybe a bit slimmer, but not by much.

Oh. It Dooms! Great price and killer tones!
For sure. Killer guitar.
I've got a 2017 G400 that I got for a steal because it had been sitting in the shop for three years. I threw a couple humbucker sized P90s in it and it sounds killer through some fuzz and a micro terror. Not as pretty as this one, though.
Nice!
@@DoesItDoom Big fan of the channel, thanks for the awesome content! You, Fuzzlord Effects, and CSGuitars are probably my favorite channels on youtube right now
Thanks dude! Do more videos on budget gear.
are stock g400 pro pickups powerfull enough for doom metal?
man can we get the tabs on those riff? seriously though love this guitar in that color!
Haha! Sorry about the drone improve. 😂😂😂 killer guitar for sure.
Yes!
I am going to do that today and swap it,
Thanks so much for yr help on this!👍👍🤟🤟
Sure thing, Troy!
How's the balance on it? I had a g400 a long time ago and it sounded incredibly good, but it was too neck heavy so I ended up having to get rid of it because I was constantly fighting the headstock trying to dive all the time. I use a Japanese Les Paul copy now and the balance is much better.
Daniel G It’s 7.1lbs. No significant neck dive for me.
@@DoesItDoom awesome. Yeah I had my g400 years ago so they've probably made them better since then. That's a wicked nice looking guitar for the price!
Daniel G it genuinely is. I basically could not resist the aesthetics of it.
@@DoesItDoom you should take it out into the forest somewhere at Golden hour and film some kind of epic drone riff with a giant stack or two behind you and that guitar. It'd look sick as fuck I think!
@@witeshade Forest right in my backyard...….
Awesome sound! Did you record this through line or mic? I'm trying to figure out how to record a similar sound. Thanks and congrats for the channel
The orange crush 12 has cab sim built into its headphone/ line out. Recorded direct with that.
@@DoesItDoom Thanks! I guess you meant Crush 20 :) I'm going for this amp!
@@frangarcia1742 right. 20.
Hot damn, that sounds evil!
Also, have you beefed up your intro?
🤘🏻🤘🏻 the old intro was always the same and the only one I ever used. I don’t use any sort of intro bumper anymore though.
Looks better than a average Gibson SG that has dots on the fingerboard.
I really prefer the blocks.
I like the pick guard better.
It looks groovy.
I haven’t tried a HB but I probably should!
I question how long these composite fretboards are gonna last. I've avoided them because of that so far.
It’s really nice looking. Might be some reason they didn’t use it for long though. Still looks great on this guitar with no issues.
Клёвый цвет,в том году тоже себе её хотел..но их же сейчас не найти нигде кроме как на ebay или reverb?
I had bought that same rat clone off of amazon....funny thing, i like it just as much as my duecetone in many situations.
Excellent looking guitar.cool channel .appreciate the playaa
any neck dive on this SG? feel like its rare to find one that has a good blance
Not on this particular one. But I think the SG shape lends itself to some of that and it can vary guitar to guitar.
The Epi SG's that have the plastic tuner buttons don't have any noticeable neck dive; certain models that have Grover style metal tuners are very neck heavy.
Have you ever done Doom on a single coil guitar?
I use P90’s often. Not strat style single coil though-too thin sounding.
While I already have all the RATs (and black secrets) I need in my life, I took the opportunity and grabbed one of their Centaur Clones for the same kind of money. Always wanted to grab one of them "transparent" ODs but never for the kind of money you got to spent for a centaur clone.
Thanks for bringing them to my attention!
Hi! What is the best sg guitars under 500$?
Sick guitar that does indeed drone! Speaking of drone, gonna catch the Frost premier today from SunnO)))?
Yes!
it was a great song !
phoque Drop you enjoying it for sure!!
@@DoesItDoom it's sound more natural and creative than the life metal album album IMO, what do you think?
@@TheGuizmo11 I really enjoyed it and can't wait to hear the rest of the album. Did either of you pre-order a physical copy?
Can’t find this axe anywhere sadly :(
So well done. A small batch showed up on Amazon about 6 weeks ago but flew.
Hope I can find it somewhere in Europe in the future! Thanks for the reply, love your content dude 🤘🏻
Love the budget rig, sounds great all together!
Glad you thought so! Not bad for under $500 brand new!
@@DoesItDoom The mosky especially sounds pretty great, I think I'm gonna pick it up for my bass rig.
Hard to go wrong for $26 on Amazon. Can always return it easily if it’s not for you.
I have a Epiphone SG and a Gibson SG and they are both just nasty little axes!! ESP Ltd Vipers and EC’s would make a great review! Maybe even a PRS🤘🏼🤘🏼always good shit on this channel!!
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for watching!!!
Yeah! Vipers are mean💪
PRS player, here. That would be an awesome demo! PRS guitars are mean as fuck
Legit feels like that girl who got away that was my soul mate, but she was a guitar 😥
Subliminal messages ahead!
How did you record the amp?
Recorded direct. The amp has CabSim built into the headphone output. I’ve recorded many of my lessons this way using this amp actually.
@@DoesItDoom I'm getting a decent sound from my 20w Champ headphone jack and seriously thinking of doing something like that 😮 THANKS ❗
Brad Lee Stone does it have built in cab sim? If not, you’ll probably want to add that in.
@@DoesItDoom Yes , I'm using the "tweed" sim , it's the cleanest one , sounds the best to me for running a cloven hoof fuzz (until I get my FU 2) and whatever (boss sd 1 & aw 3) I'm thinking of running it straight into my camcorder mic input , just for 2 tracks (boss rc 3 for rhythm) pedal demo ✌
Brad Lee Stone Awesome!
How much did the all the extra luthier work cost?
Shouldn’t be much beyond the price of a setup. The nut slots needed to be adjusted to accommodate the 13-65 strings and I don’t have a set of nut slot files so I had to take it in. Think it was $80.
I got a black SG Pro for $159 at a pawn shop. I'm putting GFS Crunch Pats in mine. I'm going to move the strap button to the upper horn, move the jack to the side and put a kill switch where the jack used to be, and get a brass nut for it.
I have that pedal I dig it for it's under 30$ price tag I have two sg g400s as well not pros but i dig it awsome video Steve i gotta snag a g400 pro soon
Yeah. Killer way to spend $26 if you’re looking for a Rat. These 1961 Pros are truly badass.
@@DoesItDoom hell yea I gotta get one I'm gonna check reverb an places
Just saying, those orange crush amps are wonderful little jazz amps in addition to being heavy beasts.Volume knob at max, gain knob at 1-3, guitar volume knob set at 1-4. You get some wonderful sounds reminiscent of Joe pass and Herb Ellis. And just a pedal click and knob roll away from doom setting.
Nice!!! Impressive amps for sure!
Does It Doom? Most impressive indeed! The SG you demo’d is also quite nice. I am excited for you to impress and teach us with it!
Such a nice looking guitar
Definitely.
They don't have ebony fretboards now, they switched them to pau ferro 😞
Yeah, terrible move!
Bummer
It's weird that in the pictures it's missing the binding...
I believe some versions are unbound but most seem to have it. The fretboard on some is also a lighter pao ferro.
How is the neck?chunky or slim?
I would call it a medium “D”. It’s not chunky but not what I would consider slim either. It feels like an early 60’s Gibson neck, maybe a bit slimmer, but not by much.
I hope they do a 2020 reissue of this with the new headstock
They should!
Does It Doom? I’ve been eying this and the new blue that they have, just such a great line up but this would totally make it epic
Tony would be proud to see you review an SG Steve!!! 😂 Keep up the great work!!! I’ve subscribed to your podcast, just haven’t had time to listen yet. I will though.
Thanks, Chris! I have some more SG reviews in the works!
Hey Steve, you should do a demo/review of the EHX Flatiron. it's supposed to be a improved version of the rat. Doom on!
Will check it out. Thanks!
I've replaced every pickup on every Epiphone I've ever owned , but then , usually , it's a decent axe 🤞
I got an Epi Korina SG a few years ago. It is made in Korea and came with two EMG 81's.
@@jameskrys5286 I believe you. If Epiphone states in the description they have brand name pickups they probably do, they are a reputable company.
I got one of those for 250€ on second hand
One of the best purchases I have ever done
Nice!!
Seems like these all got grabbed up! Hopefully they restock.
Josh WW They’ve been going in and out of stock a bunch over the past several weeks. Seem to show up in batches of 5-10 in each color.
@@DoesItDoom Epiphone is either hyped or stressed. I don't want a G-400 stressed edition so I might wait. Hahaha!
Josh WW lol.
If I use that link to buy it do you get paid?
I'm into it,it be cool if you got 💸
The link is an affiliate link, so I make a small commission, but they’ve been sold out for a long time.
Richlite. Torrefied is just a fancy way of saying it. Surprisingly good stuff. Yes it is based on wood. It is highly compressed paper and epoxy. Arguably smoother than ebony. That is an awesome SG. Anybody else out there seen Chicago Music Exchanges new line of 1970's SG's? I am getting the yellow one.
Nice guitar and vid!
I appreciate that man. Thanks for watching.
I might have to pick up one of these epiphones, my guitar's are all good but crap so
