    This Epiphone is a very nice guitar with many upgrades!!! I Got one from Sweetwater, was able to choose the instrument I received, it was set up very well, and played better than any other SG I have ever had!!! I Love the finish, and was very nice to have Gibson Pickups that sound refined more so than many in the past!!! A Super Value in this Guitar!!!!

    Personally i choose Epiphone for the lowest cost and the extreme value for money in this new Inspired By Gibson series.
    I love the Les Paul and I prefer it, but this ... this is the SG of my dreams

    I ordered one of these 3 months ago and still no word on when I can expect it it's turned into the same situation as with the epi 59 les paul . I waited 5 months for my epi 59 which turned out to be a fantastic guitar and ended up being worth the wait . I hope the the epi 61 SG turns our as good as the Epi 59 . Birstbickers 2 and 3 are killer pickups and once I take delivery of the 61 I will have 5 guitars with those pickups and all 4 of the Burstbucker 3s I currently have all have their own unique character will still having the BB3 base tone .

    Confusingly, the guitar previously called the Epiphone '61 SG Standard became the 60s SG Standard when this one came out. It has different pickups and a glossy finish.

    So… would you rather a high spec Epiphone or a lower spec Gibson? I think PRS did well to keep the name and just have the SE range. Similarly with EVH and others that have Standards and Specials. The problem for Epiphone, rightly or wrongly, is the name on the headstock.

    • @sirbaronvoncount4147
      @sirbaronvoncount4147 2 года назад +7

      Epiphone can regain its respect from guitarists with great pieces like this. The problem is the small gap between the high end epi guitars and the low end Gibson. It’s a hard choice and I would take it on a guitar by guitar basis.

      I should say, i have nothing against “high value” brands. I have a Vintage v100PGM which i love… but that was a lot cheaper than this Epiphone.

      @@sirbaronvoncount4147 The high end epiphones tend to have specs people are looking for at a lower price Pont that Gibson does not offer on their lower Ned models. Lower end gibson tend to have PCB boards and use lower grade non CTS brand pots and they put lower grade pickups in the low end gibsons like 490r/490t or 490r/498t and if it's a les paul lower end gibson les Paul's all come with either modern weight relief which means chambered or ultra modern weight relief with is chambered combined with 9 hole weight relief. So if your looking for a hand wired gibson with CTS pots no chambering and gibsons higher end more PAF like pickups such as Burstbuckers 1 2 and 3 or 57 classics or classic plus you won't get those specs in a lower priced gibson even used its hard to one with those specs in the 1000 to 1500 range epiphone did filling that gap in the gibisn line up . You get a hand wired guitar with higher grade CTS pots and higher grade caps . No weight relief and high end gibson pups. Burstbuckers 2 and 3 are never used in gibson guitars below 2000 dollars . You have go buy a gibsom explorer or flying 5 to get those pickups. Lower end gibsons never have vintage neck carves either. Lower Ned gibsons never have a 50s rounded C or 50s medium C and even though gibsom calls the neck carves used on the lower end guitars 60s slim taper they are actually very different in feel from 60s neck and usually alot thinner them most 60s necks really were. They modern slim taper is more like 70s slim taper. So for people wanting particular specs the high end epiphones for many will be the better choice.

    I going to put a warning out on this guitar.
    The first one I had arrived with a broken neck.
    The second one arrived perfectly but has since developed cracks on both sides of the neck disguised by the wood grain. The cracks follow the wood grain and are extremely hard to see.
    This is a one piece neck and is very thin at the nut where these cracks have started from.
    This is definitely a manufacturing problem as the wood is simply not strong enough to cope with the pressure of the strings pulling on it. I’m sure looking at this it is going to be an overall problem on many of these guitars. I have NEVER seen this occur on any Gibson sg in my life, the wood quality for epiphones on this model is not capable of taking these stresses.
    The guitar sounds amazing so I’m devastated. My only option now is to dump the body and salvage the pups electronics and pots inc case and get myself a new body from somewhere.
    Damn!
