I bought a Voodoo Les Paul on Ebay for $900 in 2006 and an SG for $700 in 2010. Only 2 guitars I ever imported from USA to Belgium because they were such great deals. I have never obsessed so much about a guitar as I did about the Voodoo Les Paul back then. I don't play them anymore in my bands because... Honestly, they just don't come close to my LTD EC-1000 and my Solar as far as playability goes, but they're still my most cherished guitars and I will never ever sell them.
I have a 2002. Love it! I put on a three ply pick guard with a red layer in the middle and it makes it POP even more. Ive been looking for a three ply truss rod cover with red in the middle or red along the edges but I cant find a just plain one.
I do have one exactly the same, bought in UK, Brighton, same year 2003... it's a monster of guitar... my main one baby... 50s neck, massive tone, stable and best pickups ever, very aggressive and massive tone.. intended for early2000 metal tones... sounds just like that...
In Engin IL they used to have Guitar Madness. And in September 2001 Gibson came with a truck with a bunch of charity items ( T-shirt, hats, keychains…) for 9/11. It was really cool. They also had the prototypes of all the voodoo series guitars. I was able to play them. They were almost exactly what was released. Except they had black metal covered pickups. I remember the LP neck was huge!
I remember when this guitar dropped well at least when the voodoo line dropped, it was featured in guitar world msg too. I drooled over the sg voodoo model. So jealous right now lol
Love this guitar. Had one back in the day that was knocked off a stand and the tuning board snapped right off the neck. Apparently a common problem with the voodoo SG’s. Swamp ash not the strongest wood apparently. But I missed this guitar so much that I bought another one a few years back. I just love it. I also have the 2016 red voodoo juju. Such underrated guitars.
@@Jakethefartisti think the og plays a little better due to the flatter D shaped neck. The juju seems like it has a more c shaped neck which I dont like as much… but still love both.
I bought one of these in near mint condition a couple of years ago, with the only issue being the neck pickup was dead. I ended up swapping them out (kept them of course!) For EMG retroactives (because black and red zebra ftw!). I also found an aftermarket clear gaurd that shows off more of the woodgrain. I love this thing so much, it makes my heart throb everytime i look at it. After wanting one in my formative years, but not being able to afford it, having one show up later in life was a blessing. Id much prefer the explorer or V, but im more than satiated with my SG. Phenomenal guitar.
I have this guitar it is fun the finish is fragile at the headstock and around the jack.....case is a pretty cool though my lock/latch randomly stopped functioning neck is chunkier than my 80 LP standard it feels pretty substantial.
I feel you! The Les Paul Voodoo was my first "serious" guitar back in 2006, after obsessing over it to a ridiculous degree for a few years. Getting it in my hands was one of the happiest moments in my life 😂
More a matter of they’re just available. I had them in my LP Studio. Hated them. The high output of the bridge pickup makes it hotter than a PAF-style and not my cup of tea. The neck pickup is not too muddy for my taste. A good Les Paul sounds like a fat Telecaster, but the 490r 498t set doesn’t really do that. I replaced them with Alnico II pros in that LP and have ‘57 Classics in my other LP and they’re both so much better than the 490r 498t set. Maybe they sound better in other guitars, but not for a LP.
Thanks for featuring the back of my Voodoo Les Paul (no irony!) I love how the Voodoo series wears so it is a feature not a bug! Proud owner of all 4 Voodoo shapes!
Hey I’ve been wondering - what is your signal chain? The amp you use? Is it the same amp for every guitar, or do you mix it up depending on different guitars/vibes? Sorry if you’ve answered this before and I just missed it.
I liked the song Voodoo by Godsmack.....I'm not the one whose so far away.....when I feel the snakebite enter my veins....never did I wanna be here again.......... Going way back there was this cool tv show where people wore these crazy helmet camera rigs and recorded their actions going into scary places and staying the night and that song was the opening song for each episode.......voodoo VOOODOOOOOO.....rofl Another really informative episode great stuff. I always feel like I learned something watching these videos. So much information about each guitar to give you their origin story. Great stuff!
I purchased back in the day a Les Paul Voodoo and a SG Voodoo case. Paid about a 100 bucks for each of them on eBay. I have my 2003 standard in one and a 2005 Les Paul Special in the other. Very cool cases
At just about that time, ~2003, a few years before the Gibson Memphis factory closed, there was another sort offbeat guitar for sale in the showroom/gift shop there. Roughly the shape and size of an LP, but it had a CONE, like a dobro guitar. It was electric, I think it had a regular pick up plus a piezo, I think. The word "Swamp" and/or "Mississippi" was in the name of the model. It was just cool looking, I don't think it got any good reviews, I looked for one for years and couldn't find one. Mr. Trogly, viewers, does anyone remember this guitar and can tell me anything about it? THANK YOU
I kinda like the newer Gibson Les Paul classic voodoo crimson mod collection series. Reverb shows one for sale today at 2799.99. These voodoo series have a nice look to them that I like. Thanks Trogly!
@johnfoskey7855 Yeah, I've been considering it, but I just bought two new guitars last week. Might leave it a bit so my finances can recover. Not like I desperately need another SG. I barely play the one I have.
Depending on the condition that is a great deal. It's a Guitar that isn't to everyone's taste but is a collectible - I would say a pawn shop isn't the best market for one to sell. Is it the original run or the re-run that is mostly red?
@AuramiteEX Original run. I think they priced it at current market value when it went in there, but it's gone up a bit. They've also got a LTD Deluxe with evertune for $750. I've only bought one guitqr from them, which was a Japanese Jackson DK with the "handpainted" flame finish. It was $200, but needed TLC.
I remember these. I think they stayed on the wall longer than any other Gibson at our Guitar Center back then. The kids that couldn't afford them... mostly picked up Ibbys, Schecters and the odd B.C. Rich. Was too radical for the Dr Guitar Player, esq. types.
There is a LP on Reverb now, of course it's in Europe. Even if they accept an offer, incl. shipping and customs be about 5k. Of course its grain is insane too. Ü
I have the Les Paul version and it's my 2nd favourtie to play, next to my SG Gothic. So 'kin heavy tones I get from both of 'em!! Only paid £450 for it back in the day too (used)
When i was in grade 12, i used to go to the local guitar works here in Calgary, after school with some of my friends, and I always played this guitar. To this day i never was able to purchase one, mainly because i cant find them anywhere
I have an SG voodoo in perfect condition, not a single scratch, and has an intact satin finish - it was kept as a collection piece in a temperature and moisture controlled environment. I wonder how much it's worth.
Yeahh mine is in pretty rough shape😂 but I think it adds character to a guitar specifically with a theme like this; It just makes it look more edgy, like Tony Iommis old SGs or something; That, and the beat up ones are DIRT cheap.😂
Your playing was exceptionally good in this vid, Trogly. You seem to vibe with this guitar quite well.

I love the 500t/496r combo on my 03' V. Agressive but they do sound wonderfull clean also.
I liked the gothic series more but these are quirky.
Great condition for its vintage!

Easily one of my favorite Gibson series. I had the chance of grabbing one of the Vs a few years ago. Stupidly passed on it, regretted it ever since.

490r and 498t are used in a lot of the custom shop guitars, they must be a pretty good pickup
Love them in my Les Paul Studios.

Terrible pickups. Too muddy sounding for me. Imo
The reason the apparently critical pickup routes are so clean, is the swamp ash's density. Mahogany is way softer.
The straight grain is incredible. Nice find.
Thanks for featuring the back of my Voodoo Les Paul (no irony!) I love how the Voodoo series wears so it is a feature not a bug! Proud owner of all 4 Voodoo shapes!
I had to jump on the first one I encountered as I had considered it my white whale

Hi Trogly!
Question, At 12:05, what is the name of the song?
Thunderhorse
@@Trog Thanks! 👍
I love chunky necked SG's. I wish the 61 style had big necks
The AMS versions are super cool

Own a tribute sg 2019 and still love it maple neck.
Trogly playing dethklok is awesome.

Now that's the way you're supposed to test the guitar! You should do music like this on every guitar
I love the color & the neck profile. Awesome
My local pawn shop is selling one of these for $1800 CAD (Inc taxes), so $1300 USD. It's been in there over a year.
Offer him 900..and walk if that is to low

Would be cool to see you start reviewing some boutique guitars like Tuttle, James Tyler, Knaggs etc.
I have the Voodoo Juju Les Paul, but sadly, it’s more of a burgundy than blood red. But it’s definitely my favorite LP.
Nice breakdown - didn't know about this series. appreciate!
Should spell the title as BROOTAL. hahaha
Trogly, I'd love to see an ES-137! I love Florentine cut guitars!
Can I get Orville and Wilbur on the back of my headstock?
I believe they started producing the Voodoo in the year 2001. I’ve seen some SGs from that year!
It does Godsmack well. Good choice.
I kinda like it. I wish they would do some interesting finishes on some of the lower end models
Black mamba looks like a Hot Rod. The grain showing through is beautiful.
Perfect guitar to play Voodoo by Godsmack on.
nice sg i like the body look, but trapazoid inlays would make it much nicer looking from gibson
Cool SG!
Next time I want to see Gibson do the Doo Doo Series!
I want to see a flying V in poop smear brown... Have babies paint them!
That swamp ass body! 😊
Dear Trogly, due to the unforeseen phenomenon of Oliver Anthony you must do a review of a resonator guitar ... bothe square and round neck..
I had a Gothic SG. Baseball bat neck but had TONE!!!
Love it, SGs rule
As someone that generally doesn't like SGs, I find this one pretty cool.
I think it's time they do my idea of using shelf and drawer paper for the finish!
Austin please review a Harley Benton pro series!❤
Great playing!!!
I wanted this guitar SO BAD when I saw it in a music123 catalog in like 2003
I have an SG voodoo in perfect condition, not a single scratch, and has an intact satin finish - it was kept as a collection piece in a temperature and moisture controlled environment. I wonder how much it's worth.
No you don't.
You should talk a little about Fender Harmonicas.
Yeah, very nice God Smack riffs on such a bad ass SG!
Thanks mate
That intro made me laugh out loud.

open grain.
colored grain filler.

If that is the guidance provided by UPS, is it any wonder they keep getting dropped?
Rock & Roll!
i'd think a 335 in a Voodoo treatment would be great looking.
Damn! Tune that thing man!!
I always thought they looked sweet. I remember when these came out when I was in school.
Go away memories, I'll fight you!
I've learned sg ar r one of the best gibsons out there
I wanted this as a teenager super bad 😂
Get it Trogly!!!
