I was up all night, learning the chapter of history that has been ignored by so many years by our nation.
Such a sincere, courageous person, full of grace, intelligence and sensitivity. He risked his life, and sacrificed it, simply to realise and respect the values of democracy. To behave in a fashion Indian masses wanted their leader to behave in. He responded to his criticism of being too closed into the net of security, and in turn lost his life.
I didn't live in the same time as he did, I was born years later, and took me 23 years to learn his story. But I wish I had.
I wish he wasn't as courageous as he was, I wish I had lived in an India he leaded.
But alas, that could not be realised.
I can only dream, wish and hope for it. So here I am, sitting and weeping, dreaming of what it would have been like to live in Rajeev's India of 2017. :'(

A very poignant and thoughtful comment, although no point weeping or dreaming about it, Rajiv Gandhi was a "Doer", not a philosopher, he would have preferred if the youth of today's India would value and uphold the true invaluable principles of democracy, and carry forth his lost vision in their personal strides. "Rajivs India of 2017" would also have problems, like the ones we are plagued with today, such as divisive politics and a media thriving on personalities rather than perspectives, what we need is people in public life who are straightforward, sincere and not hypocrites claiming to be Aam Aadmi or otherwise, and he alone could not lead if the people around him do not share the selfless vision he had, be it in the past or 2017, but you are right, even i feel our generation would have learnt a lot from this man. However, we as a society forget, he behaved impeccably in pubic and private life, he was not in the habit of performing theatrics or tamasha, the only reason there is nobody like him today is because he was a truly distinguished and educated man who believed on practicing what he preached and was a shy thoughtful considerate and compassionate human being, alas, the irony of life is the most benign souls are always the ones who are sacrificed first. Yet you are right, his is a loss which can never be replaced, he can give our eminent politicians today a lesson in basic manners and common sense, which power hungry people lack, in fact even our eminent news anchors shouting these days can learn a thing or two about integrity from this man alone.

I agree with you 100 per cent. (I'm born in 2000). Manmohan Singh is 12 yrs older than Rajiv Gandhi ji, yet we have seen Manmohan Singh as PM in our childhood and adolescence, whereas Rajiv Gandhi ji passed away so so early. Today (as of 2021) he would have been 77. I haven't seen such a gentle, honest and humble PM. 😭 He mixed up with the people and jumped into crowds as if he was an ordinary man, inspite of the threat to his life. You are somehow right sister.....he shouldn't have been so courageous and trusting the people so much. 😭 Inspite of losing their grandmother and father for the sake of the country, Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi ji are still active in the Indian political scene. My only wish is to one the two as the next PM.....as they have Rajiv ji's blood. Today India needed Rajiv Gandhi ji as the PM, the leader, but he left the world too too early...🙏🏻😔

Rajiv Gandhi never cared about security and safety. He always wanted to reach out to the people personally. I have something to share here. Once my husband saw Rajiv Gandhi driving his car on Delhi roads without any security. My husband was so shocked to see and said how can any PM just go like this? Such was Rajiv. No man who is a pm of a country can have this guts. I salute Mr. Rajiv Gandhi absolutely.

“Get the country out of the mess..the last two govt. have made” this is so true even today.. what a gentleman..what a husband...what a father and what a great leader one nation could have. We at 2020 really miss a leader like him..his vision..his compassion..his tolerance. My tears are just flowing uncontrollably..I haven’t cried so much in recent years.. how lucky Sonia to have lived with such a incredible man. No wonder why she maintains so much silence and dignity even for today. I dint have good opinion about her until I heard about her from Rajiv. Our current politics is just power ke booke...ready to shed people’s blood on the streets to get the power. What a shame they called Rajiv a corrupt.

Rajiv Gandhi is very special to me. I dont exactly know why.. By the time he died I was just about 7 years old. But that moment had a profound effect on me. I still remember seeing his sad funeral with my little eyes on Doordarshan so many years ago. That smiling photo of his which was placed near his body on the gun carriage was firmly etched in my mind.
The tale of his death was always a mystery to me and I was very curious to know about it. Then I started to learn more about him and till day I have collected about 7 - 8 books on his assassination. I have also preserved 4 magazines issued in 1991 which covered news of his death. And a dozen more about 25 to 30 magazines published by India Today, The Week, Frontline, Sunday, The Illustrated Weekly etc that covered Rajiv Gandhi's period starting from the early 1980s.
Everytime I miss him, I just come to watch Simi's amazing documentary. I have watched these for about 50-60 times.. but still I just come here to see Rajiv's rainbow smile, his talk and his expression of love for India and her people. I have never loved and admired any other politician more than him. I shall miss him till my last breath.
Thank you Simi ji.. you have frozen Rajiv's happy memory for us for all eternity 🙏❤️

Rajiv Gandhi was the rarest gem of an Indian politics. Deeply sincere, honest and very soft spoken. He was a regular family man, a loving son and a brother. When he married Sonia, he was absolutely devoted and a loving husband and also a caring father to his children. May the God bless his family, they have lost a lot by sacrificing so many family members for the sake of a nation.

Most people do not know these RUclips sites. Now we have a more young genuine Congress Party with good leadership qualities. Lets get together with Congress and work towards building our nation towards prosperity, justice, compassion and respect for all. Lets get Congress to win the next election and I hope and pray that Dr, Manmohan Singhji will continue to guide the country's economy and save our nation for the future of our young generation.

Tears come to my eyes when I recount the painful and sudden death of our dear Rajivji who was the noblest, and gentle of leaders with a sincere and strong vision for the future of India and it's people. Many like me in India who remember the political atmosphere during the election campaign just prior to his death still believe that there was something more than just the LTTE behind his brutal and sudden assassination, just hours before the general election, some dark force who feared the certain verdict in the incumbent elections which would have made Rajivji the next prime minister of India.

It is important for people to stay united, teach our children to follow simplicity, not to believe this man Modi, a crook, if Hindu Indians want to choose a Hindu leader it should someone like Rajiv, he quoted from Bagvad Gita so beautifully in the White House.

But now, I cry again when see this documentary!! How could that devil woman did this to him??? At the end of the day, I have a question : is worth it by doing all these dedication from this wonderful Rajiv Gandhi to the selfish people in India ??
He could lived so many years and may be still now by seeing his children and the Grandchildren...
    Who knows !!

I must thank you Simi ji for doing this series of interviews and documentary on Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. This is so valuable for the present generation who didn't know Mr. Rajiv. After watching this documentary, I have a very different perspective on the allegations against Mr. Rajiv on Bofors case and against the Gandhi family. He was such an honest, transparent, kind, sensitive, noble, visionary and courageous person! He didn't shy away to admit his limitations and admitting his mistakes. And he was doing exactly what our nation needed - connecting with people, opening borders with our neighboring countries, (especially with China and Pakistan), introducing a modern India with modern technology and an advanced economy. He was trying to bring unity in diversity in every field to create a true India. A great loss for the country to lose a leader like him!
It's sad that today Indian politics has become toxic and the politicians stoop so low for their vested interest. Even Mr. Swami was quite honest in his remarks that time then what he speaks and does today. The present political environment is bringing a lot of negative energy to fragment the community by spreading hatred and dividing India. But the truth is diversity and secularism is deeply rooted in India soil, and if they try to uproot this values then no doubt the nation will die!

I still wonder how a complacent and poise man like Rajiv stood aloof from the ruthless ruffians and mercernaries who masquerade as politicians. Even today, the standard of political dialogues and discourses are awful to hear! I'm double sure India would've been a superpower much earlier if he hadn't been assassinated.

After watching all 3 parts of this documentary, I have arrived at the conclusion that it is no small feat for Rahul Gandhi to have emerged from such enormous, almost insurmountable generational trauma set upon his family. No normal human can sustain despite the loss of so many family members one by one. And today, he walks free among the people of India on yatras without any security cover just like his father did. Not once in the last 10 years have I seen him seek sympathy in the name of everything that he has been through unlike other politicians who claim to be "fakirs"
Hats off to Rahul Gandhi-ji and my vote will definitely go to Congress in 2024.

We should only hope, deceitful people who are corrupt stay away from him so he can do some good for this country and we must pray the social fabric of this nation isn't torn irreparably by then. Simiji please get in touch with Netflix representatives and see if this can be put up on their platform as well, this deserves so many more views.

I remember the day when Mr. Rajiv Gandhi passed away. It was raining early morning when the news came in on radio. It seemed heaven was crying. There cannot be any analogy drawn with the current Govt and the Govt led by Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. Even trying to compare the two is injustice to these people who have maintained dignity even in criticism and led by example not like the current set of lumpant who blow their own trumpets and try to malign others to prove their own competency. History will never be kind to these men. This documentary should be seen by all and thy pray that this acts as an eye opener to the andh-bhakts.

Thank you so much for all three parts. I haven't commented before watching all three parts which I did today. India lost a beautiful person, a brave and wonderful leader. He like my parents who were both soldiers in WW11, represented the good and heathy minded people of modern society. My Father was stationed in India around the time Rajiv was born.
