      iRacing is the most realistic?. You might get a backlash there. I race it and love it and it is unforgiving compared to other sims. It is definitely a sim aiming to be realistic. But I think AC1 tyre model feels more realistic. But the penalty system is much more realistic than any sim. if someone hits you in reality you loose out as do they. It also helps stop deliberate ramming and road warriors.

    What I love is the guy who AC Evo is using as one of its data points is a 40+ year race car driver (multiple disciplines) and he flat out said, most of the so-called hardcore simulators like iRacing, feel nothing like how real race cars handle at that level. He also said, many simulation game devs go out of their way to purposefully make sims harder than the real thing to help distinguish their game from the competition... Completely ignoring the reality of how easy (relative term) high performance race cars handle, but that their hardcore user base supposedly thinks is insanely difficult. Ironic.
    He said, if race cars were as difficult to drive as some games portray, there would be no motorsports and far more fatalities. Professional pilots have said the same thing about the major flight sims, too. They're games that are overly hard, so they can slap the name "simulator" on them when in reality, if planes were as "hardcore" as they claim, there would be no airline industry and far, far more fatalities than exist today.

    • @GamerMuscleVideos
      @GamerMuscleVideos  22 часа назад +4

      " many simulation game devs go out of their way to purposefully make sims harder than the real thing" I think this is a result of trying to block unrealistic driving techneeques or exploits which then results in physics "turning off" when a car is pushed as aposed to cars being "unrealistically controlable" the key is a balance and its obviously very hard to get right and maybe also not exactly enterly objective as to where the point is.

      @@PLAYER_42069 as a pilot I disagree with the fight sim thing. Flight sims are actually much easier than really life and the reason that none of them are used for training. All the flight sims we train on are designed specifically for that. No, you're just redefining 'simcade'. The simplest definition of 'simcade' is: 'a racing game using simplified handling'. Nothing to do with what the 'game' offers. Codemasters were originally brilliant at this, producing both the TOCA and Colin McRae series. Neither of these series had any 'game' elements, but were superb at offering compelling racing games with handling that almost felt like you were driving real cars, albeit somewhat easier than the real thing. In conclusion, EVO will probably be the opposite of simcade, that is, a game offering realistic physics, but with simcade elements, is why I won't be buying it, at least not until version 1.0. I'm quite happy with my boring track racers. Edit: I was referring to the original TOCA games i.e. 1 and 2.

      @@gomezthechimp1116 Spot on. To my understanding, the sim vs. arcade was always: simulation: as true to real life as possible, hardcore, not casual-friendly. Arcade: less realistic, focusing more on gameplay, easier for the casual gamer to jump in and have fun.
      As for simcade: has aspects of realism (meant to capture the feeling at least) but still geared more towards the masses, so it's more accessible.

      The video is literally about the word simcade , how it is defined and why it actually ends up being a floored term in reality when you really think about it.
      The video also offers multiple ways in which it's used as a term , how it's used as an insult and then how it's used in least disingenuous way ( basically how you also defined it).
      And then the video explains how this in reality is also flawed when you really think about it due to what has happened in reality with racing games and racing sims.
      Sure the video could have maybe been even more clear , I'm. Kt the best communicater and a bit thick at times but I think it actually did a reasonably good job of this outside of me literally also braking down what I'm doing in the video at the start.

    Well, I think the invocation of the word arcade isn't just that the title is gamey, but that it's not at all realistic physics-wise. A sign that a title might be a simulator is that it contains elements that no-one in their right mind would include because they're so annoying and detract from the fun element but do however serve to re-direct sim racers' innate masochism through the excuse that this is what happens in real life.

    As to Simcade, I think make it as realistic as possible, with options for driver aids so its accessible to everyone. Then have a great single player campaign, and have a casual multiplayer, where some driving aids are allowed. Then a serious Ranked multi player where most driving aids are not not allowed, focused on the realistic side. I pretty sure this is the way Kunos see it too, but with open world included too.

    I say this cos in my own Sim/Game Racing past, the hardest game I can remember playing, was arguably the original Gran Prix Legends. So my point is something I have personally held for a long time. And that is here in Australia, our biggest Series is V8 SUPERCARS. But it takes a very special driver to master it. So I'm simply saying than can a TRUE SIMUL;ATOR ever really exist - when if it suddenly did - most of us grumpy complaining trolls would simply say.......... IT'S TOO BLOODY HARD!!! • @TobiasWiggle
    @TobiasWiggle День назад

    A simulator, to me, is software that SIMULATES a thing so people can train in the simulator or test things in the simulator without real-life risks and costs. It doesn't even have to be super realistic, paradoxically, so long as it has what's needed for training purposes. E.g. if you use the special military version of Operation Flashpoint (now ArmA), Virtual Battlefield or whatever it's called, and you use it to show your recruits how to set up a realistic road block and what that's meant to look like, it doesn't matter that you can barely walk through a door in that horrendously sluggish game engine. You can't simulate storming a building because the game neither has detailed building interiors (doesn't even have doors!) nor appropriate movement for this type of scenario, but you can use it to simulate how to drive in a convoy, how to secure flanks, what to look for at the horizon, etc. It doesn't need sim-level vehicle physics for that. There also doesn't need to be a working, cinematic singleplayer campaign or multiplayer with any kind of workable balance! It's not a game. Operation Flashpoint (now ArmA) is a game. It has simulation elements (e.g. bullet drop and travel over distances) but it's a game. It doesn't SIMULATE training scenarios and it doesn't SIMULATE its battles in a meaningful way, where you could run the same mission a hundred times to get statistics about how a similar real-life mission might go down. It has nothing to do with that. It's entirely unusable for that. It's a game, like in an arcade, but it has sim elements, so I guess it could be a simcade.
    However, I accept that "sim", in videogame terms, is used as shorthand for "it's more realistic than most games in this genre". In that sense, it's a "sim". It's far more realistic than Quake, Counterstrike or even Ghost Recon. Case in point, there used to be space shooters and space combat sims. Freespace 2, people call a space combat sim. What's it simulating? Real space ships? Real laser weapons? No. It's not simulating ANYTHING, but it has a more realistic veneer than other space shooters.
    (Sill, even stretching the definition to the breaking point, the term "immersive sim" is like nails on a chalk-board to me. What is Deux Ex SIMULATING, exactly? What is Deux Ex more realistic than? Rainbow Six? SWAT3? Baldur's Gate 2? The Sims? "Immersive sim" means Deux-Ex-like, with multiple approaches to quests, vent shafts, doors to hack or break open, stealth or guns-blazing approaches... I get it, don't explain it to me, but "immersive sim" is a terrible, terrible name for this genre.)
    AC Evo, from everything I heard about it so far, is going to be a GAME. You know, like in an arcade... AC1 is severely lacking in its GAME aspect, in my opinion. I preferred playing Forza Motorsports 7 for a long time, even with its mushy physics and lackadaisical car specs, because it was a good GAME. Had a singleplayer that took me through a wide variety of wacky races, with historic cars, with racing trucks (!), on scenic race tracks like a gorgeous fictional one set in Prague... Just all manner of fun racing. AC Evo is promising to be a good GAME, and if it comes with physics that rival or surpass AC1 in realism, all the better because while I was playing FM7, I constantly wished it had physics like AC. By all means, marry "sim" and "arcade" in this way and give us a great "simcade"!
    The problem with racing games is that people, for some reason, want to feel like they're better than some kid who's playing a "racing game" like in an arcade... They want to be adults who are training on their "simulator". They spent good money on the equipment. They get very invested in how close to a simulation their chosen game is. If it were an arcade game, that would make them kids! Easily fooled kids who don't know how a real race car behaves and who are wasting time in games. So "arcade" or even "simcade" are grave insults to them. -- I had to chuckle when that news broke that the new hypercar in iRacing is too fast in corners or whatever. The initial tweet immediately called this "arcade". Because yeah, getting some values wrong in your long-running, notoriously uncompromising, top-end of the consumer racing sim market, racing sim... suddenly turned it into Sega Rally or Outrun. With high-score numbers popping up with a loud ka-ching sound or that old-timey Sega announcer yelling at you. Sim racers are a special breed.

    decades ago, racing games existed in a binary state. ZERO realistic physics (Daytona USA, Pole Position, Ridge Racer) or ALL the physics the current hardware could muster. (Grand Prix Legends) But these days, even 'arcade' style racers employ basic but forgiving physics; so these games are now on a sliding scale. So, I think that unless the devs move the physics sliders all the way to hardcore realism, then all racing games are kinda 'simcade' in that way. ...and that's ok, I like them both; just depends on my mood and what I want to drive that particular day or moment.

      Yes also all the "sims" have a ton of elements that are more gamey by accident or intentionally so again - Everything is basically simcade but either more or less realistic or more or less worse lol - which is why the term Simcade basically is meaningless - but if its not , its why ACE will be the greatest simcade ever made !

    F1 24 simcade, completing laps 4 to 5 seconds faster then they can in real life. Also anything that encourages 100% brake pressure and holding it a bit before trailing off is unrealistic, the ABS and TC being over engaged kills lap times in gt cars. According to many drivers the telemetry aspect of Iracing is more realistic and practical to transfer into real cars, even though they do admit that the cars aren’t as hard to drive in real life as Iracing makes it.

    A video quite literally made about the word ‘simcade’ and how it’s a flawed term… I think.
    Absolutely riveting stuff James.
    It’s words written on a piece of paper, thrown into a hat, you put your hand in and pull out said words, today’s word was SIMCADE. Then you have a pie chart on a whiteboard I’m guessing with a few categories
    1= CONVERSATION ABOUT FFB
    2= IRACINGS PHYSICS
    3= PHILOSOPHY ABOUT LUCKY DIPPED WORD
    4=COMPLAIN ABOUT EVERYTHING IN LIFE
    in my mind you have a spinny wheel thing, you spin that and which ever category it lands in, you then make a video talking about the lucky dip word. Then use a thumbnail that engages, ramble using big words to appear smarter than the average sim racer then CHA CHING!!!! We upload baby

Pure simulators don't care about game pads nor do they care if you're good at them or not. At least that's how I have always thought about it.

    Even though the term "simcade" is often used unproductively, I disagree with how you try to redefine it. "Arcade" part in "simcade" does not mean "game" or "fun-oriented gameplay", it just means "very simple, unrealistic driving model" (and then "simcade" just means "driving model is neither too simple and fantasy, nor at the same level as racing sims"). A fully-fledged sim can be a good game if you put a good career and maybe a story in it. Imagine Gran Turismo 4, but with much more realistic physics - that would be a simulator and also a very good game at the same time.

    I think you get the term simcade completely wrong.
    All our simulator games are Games that's what gives them gameplay elements.
    With simulators, the differences in gameplay are made by racing rules and the simulation model itself. That is why the simulation flaws are legitimate gameplay critiques.
    This could mean that with all the difficult rules on, GT could even be considered a full simulator. The fact that it has less detail is a flaw that comes from hardware limitations, and not from the choice to make it arcade.
    What sets simcade apart is that it actively omits some racing rules or real details to make the whole package simpler. I would say that this choice is mostly motivated by a reduction in development time, as an extra bit of detail is always welcome, even onm a controller.
    Due to the freedoms taken in simcade titles, flaws in the simulation model don't even matter, so AC evo is quite a pure simulator as the most care is taken to model the cars in physical detail as well.

    When talking about video games, the term "simulation" doesn't mean it's a software made to train for real life, it simply means it's a game with a relatively realistic gameplay, aimed to simulate the reality. So even if the term simcade (and arcade too) is constantly pejoratively missused by sim elitists, to the core it serves its purpose, to designate games that lean toward realism, without having enough advanced physics to be called a simulation. It's just to fill a void between arcade and simulation, for games that are not clearly in one of those categories like GT, Forza Motorsport, Project Cars or F1 games. At some point, people were talking more about arcade, simulation instead of simcade, and realsim or hardcore sim instead of simulation.
    The gameplay is the main element determining in which category a game is. Using a touge or open world map in AC doesn't make it a simcade game, it's still a simulation. If AC EVO has a proper career mode, it still will be a simulation, just a less archaic/minimalist one and a better game, which is pretty much what GM implies in the end.

    To me, simulator = difficult learning curve, advanced physics, less enjoyment for the masses but more reward when you finally nail it. Arcade = pickup and play, little to no physics, most accessible and thus enjoyable for the masses. SimCade just means you've put in some physics but kept it accessible for the majority of people. IMO having a career mode doesn't really have any influence. Any game that effectively forces you to read Ross Bentley's Ultimate Speed Secrets, should not really be tagged with a suffix of "cade". Anything with an arcade vibe is not inferior, it just has different aims -who doesn't enjoy just unplugging brain once in a while and just drifting every single corner without spinning out or having to change tyres.
