I agree that you would've hoped that they put Abreu into the deal instead of Montgomery but the White Sox are not gonna be good for several years so it makes a lot more sense for them to get a guy for down the road. Losing Teel is bad, but Connor Wong, while not perfect, is more than serviceable and has not even been close to a weaker area for the team. Crochet is a 25 year old who has top of the rotation stuff. Didn’t love the package, especially cause I was a massive fan of Teel, but it is what it is. Again, we go get a White Sox lefty who’s probably gonna be our ace. If you look at his savant page, he was in the 12th percentile in breaking ball, which can be heavily improved on assuming Andrew Bailey can rejuvenate him.
It is a bigger haul than I anticipated but that’s more a reflection of the industry and how it values starting pitching. I’m ultimately fine with this specially considering we get to keep the big 3 and can potentially extend crochet for prime years
I still think the answer is yes but, the guy form the Yankees is a defensive 1st catcher with a decent hit tool, and really you just need a defensive guy to offset the offensive first catcher in Wong. So I’d like one, but it’s not 100% necessary now.
i love it but i dont completely love it lol. man teel i did not want to lose. he was the catcher of the future bc man im sick and tired of watching connor wong he absolutely stinks😭. on top of that you lost jansen yes he stunk hitting but he was a much better defensive catcher. i aint waiting for johanfran garcia to come up in like 3-4 years. we need to fix the catcher position now. damn montgomery hurts lol. i thought he was a steal to and got a cannon for an arm. but we needed starting pitching BAD and we probably still need more. also we kept wilyer now. whats gonna happen with wilyer and anthony bc anthony was supposed to take wilyers spot?
Maybe another trade is still coming, you could always keep Abreu but he just felt like the easiest to move to clear a path for Roman. Absolutely wild deal. I have so many mixed feelings on it but I'm thrilled to have a 25 year old ace caliber guy, I just hope he can deliver!
