- On Thursday, Judge Matthew Barrett sentenced a defiant Tina Peters to 9 years behind bars on multiple charges - including felonies - for a data-breach plot amid false claims of voting machine fraud during the 2020 presidential election. “You are no hero. You abused your position - and you’re a charlatan who used, and is still using your prior position to peddle a snake oil that’s been proven to be junk time and time again,” said Judge Barrett. “Your lies are well-documented and these convictions are serious. I’m convinced you’d do it all over again if you could.” Judge Barrett added: “You’re as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen.”
The judge calling Peters out for failing to uphold the Constitution that her own son gave his life for was masterful.

I loved living in Mesa County, until the winds of change blew through Grand Junction, and the president of the college and their entire team was dismissed. More to your point, Colorado has some really strong/fair judges. This was one example. Years ago, 30+, I appeared in front of many district courts across 10 counties in CO. We do have some good judges here. We also have a few remaining criminal attorneys that know when to cut bait. As one did in case!

Following the 2020 election, a corrupt Colorado Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, ordered the erasure of Tabulator hard drives containing federal election data and forensic evidence. An honest clerk, Tina Peters, had her county's hard drives imaged before the erasure, and subsequent analysis the imaged drives by computer experts showed that data had been manipulated, and that new file folders had been created while voting was in progress. For exposing this fraud, she needed to be silenced by those complicit in the crime, and this trial was the result. It is no accident that the corrupt judge forbid Peters to enter into evidence what she had uncovered, preventing the jury from learning the truth about this sham prosecution.

I agree with you in principle, but the judge has to justify his sentence. 45% of Max for a first time elderly offender is actually fairly substantial all things considered. It will also make her appeal more difficult as well.
And to add one more thing, let's just be thankful this judge wasn't another judge cannon. There's no mandatory minimum for the crime she was convicted of so a sympathetic judge could have easily rendered no sentence at all
