- On Thursday, former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison after being convicted of several felony charges in an election computer breach case. After that sentence is complete, she will serve six months in jail, for a total of nine years behind bars.
"Your lies are well documented, and these convictions are serious," 21st Judicial District Judge Matthew Barrett told Peters at her sentencing. "I'm convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You're as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen."

@phunkboxx. I agree, and don’t agree, because at some point these judges need to call out that it’s not just individuals committing their own isolated voter fraud crimes. All these individuals are part of a larger, organized attack on our democracy, and it’s a uniquely Republican problem that is openly and officially accepted and encouraged by the party itself. And I think that needs to be publicly called out by our justice system, officially and on the record, that the Republican party itself as a whole, with the exception of only a small handful of members at this point, has become an active ongoing threat to our democracy.
And don’t get me wrong, I got A LOTTA disagreements with the Democrat party, but whatever I feel about the Democrat party, it’s just policies to agree or disagree with, economic policies, social policies, government spending, etc. That’s normal to have disagreements on those things. That’s what democracy is SUPPOSED TO BE, but with the Republican party nowadays!? I love how the judge brought up how her son honored his oath and she didn't. I love how the judge brought ip how her conduct is as damaging as the other people that get sentenced to prison is. Excellent decision, Ms. Peters said on camera, 'She would leave the country if she knew she were going to prison.' Essentially saying, I Am a Flight Risk and I have no intention (nor did I on Jan6) of obeying the law or the courts.
Lol this woman stole her husbands house. They were separated in 2017. He purchased the home after their decree of legal separation was filed in January 2018, indicating the couple never jointly lived there. In 2021 she illegally did a quick claim deed to get a house she never paid for. The litigation is still pending.

This judge is giving wide latitude to statements made by supporters for the defendant post conviction. Several were making statements that sounded like something akin to witness testimony. If these were credible witnesses with credible evidence and testimony the defense would have surely called them. As it is they are merely making unsupported statements that the prosecutor is not allowed to challenge. But make no mistake these are not credible people speaking to the judge.
