Robert Stack's voice on "Unsolved Mysteries" still sends shivers down my spine. Any child of the 80s and 90s relates.
Absolutely! Love Robert Stack!! Did you know he does the voice acting for the investigator in Bevis and Butthead do America? Just a cool little tidbit about ole Bobby 😉

I happened to sit down in a Boston bar next to someone who had befriended this POS and he went on to describe the story in some detail. Wasn’t sure whether to believe him or not. Fast forward a year or so later and im watching a documentary on the case without realizing it. It wasn’t until the guy I had been chatting with was interviewed in the documentary that I realized everything he had said was true. Gave me chills. As always, nice job covering this one, Mike.
D
Did he tell you anything about Rockerfeller that wasn't covered in this video?
Wild experience to have, to be sure!
@@sharraleigh it was a few years ago at this point so I really can’t recall, only that they were neighbors over in the upscale Beacon Hill neighborhood. I found the name of the documentary, though: My Friend Rockefeller. It looks like it was on Netflix but I can’t seem to find it on there or anywhere else for that matter. Check it out if you can, it goes into quite a bit of detail on the casee
I wasn’t sure whether to believe you or not, but fast forward 5 seconds and I realize you have the most Boston name ever ;)
@@CantTellYou this regalement is as true as I am irish. Completely true
What's amazing about this case is how this guy pretended to be a Rockefeller, didn't exactly keep a low profile, and not only everybody bought it - no one from the Rockefeller family/circle came forward to expose him.
I think they only became aware of "Clark" when the FBI came to them. At 14:39 Mike mentions the Rockefeller's statement to the FBI. 😊
No internet back then.
Mike is so charismatic he makes all these disgusting happenings easier to listen to, I actually watch his videos whenever I feel like I wanna listen to a friendly voice

LOVE me some Robert Stack!!
Yeah agreed… I still have such nostalgic memories of planning out my schedule to make sure I was home for certain shows…
Yes!!
I used to watch the show when I was like 5 lol
Absolutely
Uh, Robert Stack was a well known actor not a journalist lol. He was just the host of the show, chosen, no doubt because he played Eliot Ness on the Untouchables for years.
Every time I hear Robert Stack's voice my spirits are immediately lifted.

@@roxannemoser same! He’s the best ghost story teller! 😅
Bill Kurtis... 😉
@@tessaducek5601 agreed
I just recently found a section under RUclips movies that has free episodes of unsolved mysteries
Read "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit." It's a good book about this Narcissist and the lavish lifestyle he lived.
Hit me up 👆👆👆👆👆
There was also a very good documentary about him on Netflix a few years ago. They interviewed some of his neighbors in CA, NYC, Boston and childhood friends in Germany. He also had a huge collection of modern art that he claimed he had gotten from a Rockefeller family member that would have been worth millions, had it been real. He even fooled a neighbor that worked in the art business. Very fascinating story.
I just suggested this very thing! Received the book as a gift, and it’s - IMO - one of the best non-fic I’ve ever read.
Mike,
The fact that you are able to post multiple times each week and use a variety of related content (interviews, news reports, body cam footage, etc.) to develop the narrative is impressive. It really must take a substantial amount of time and effort to develop these. Great work!
Hit me up 👆👆👆👆👆👆""
I mean yes it does take a lot but I’m sure he does it full time and there are hundreds of other RUclips content creators who do the exact same thing. Even better
He probably has a whole team. Most likely he doesn’t do the research himself, still doesn’t take away from how cool this channel is though.
I’ve always preferred my chapters
Presentation
It’s not just Mike talking it’s not just some lame voice over I think it’s a good mix
Mike has a good face makes you feel like your talking to a friend and his expressions and jokes are part of that as well .
I’ve been studying and following true crime since I was like fourteen
So I sometimes get tired of all the grizzly details and learning about the worst humanity has to offer but when I’m in the mood for some true crime TC is my first choice
@@muratkurt7262 Actually Mike recently mentioned that he is essentially a one man team which makes his content even more impressive imo.
Of course there are much larger channels with big teams and bigger budgets that have higher production but Mike’s channel consistently brings high quality content. Additionally, I(along with many others, obviously)enjoy his more lighthearted approach to the true crime genre.
I’ve been watching That Chapter for years and it is still one of the few RUclips channels that I actually keep up with, I appreciate and applaud everything he does to bring us this content on a regular basis at absolutely no cost to his fan base. You rock, Mike.
I remember watching the first video by Mike and thinking "nah, not for me" but by the end of that video I was hooked! What an excellent story teller with classy humour. I'm now a TC addict. I never miss a video! Keep giving' em a goooo, Mike!

Mike thanks again man for another great video. I'm 52, and grew up watching TV shows, then movies on TV when cable TV was introduced to the masses. Today I find myself only watching specific RUclips videos/channels like yours. You can get the story in 15 to 20 minutes as opposed to 1 to 3 hours in a movie. Your passion for what you do is clear, your research into the cases you cover top notch, and I'm sorry, but your "life insurance" dance cracks me up every time you use it. Keep up the good work man, you've got a loyal supporter in me.

That Chapter meets Unsolved Mysteries, Mike and Robert Stack... that's just too epic
If I told my parents I'd been selected to go to Europe to work on a top-secret US govt program, they'd ask me when I tripped & fell on my head!
Right? From what I recall from the book I read on this, Linda worked as a clerk in a sci-fi bookstore, and John “did something with computers,” though didn’t seem to make much money, hence why they bunked with DiDi. Neither spouse had the skills, education, or employment background to attain such jobs as the ones they “left” to take on.
I find it fascinating that this guy was able to con his way into, and around, relationships and jobs - yet used bags from the two universities he attended to link himself directly to the murder.
😂 A con is not necessarily smart. Excellent point. 👍👍

@@damagecontrol7 should of. Thats how i like to say it, fun to shorten it i prefer the longer way... but thank you... it doesnt look bad to me... can you explain the grammatic mistake here

The first that chapter I watched was while being bed bound with undiagnosed gallstones. It was winter in the UK and the first video I only remember started on a snowy scene in a city somewhere in America. I luvved the crisp quality of the picture and the comfort of the snow, along with the relaxing music. That was over 2 years ago. Mike's is my favourite true crime channel 👍🏻😊
This story doesn’t demonstrate how crazy this guy is as much as how absolutely effortless it was to get a job in the 70s and 80s.
Today, you can walk into an investment firm with the actual credentials and know-how and you only have a tiny chance of getting a job.
When everything was on paper I think anyone could become or kill anyone they liked with minimal chance of being caught.
I recently became a licensed insurance agent, had to submit fingerprints for an FBI background check, and then do two more with my company and one of our big carriers. And I don’t even handle money, lol. Had to submit my driver’s license, my SS card, college transcripts, you name it. It’s crazy how lax it used to be.
It was easy to forge and falsified documents then. Now everything is online and digital and can be looked up in a matter of seconds. I think people also valued integrity to some extent more back in those days.
Exactly! Just like the way Kimberly Kessler operated - for some reason, if a person was deceased, you could "steal" their name, birth date and social security number because the fact that they were deceased often wasn't registered at their place of birth; it wasn't common knowledge until a few books were published which described in great detail how to go about it.
I think that's the plot of a Will Smith movie
Robert Stack was awesome! Dang I miss that guy. He was absolutely perfect for the Unsolved Mysteries TV show. His voice. The trench-coat. The creepy music. It was gold!
He was a damn fine actor too, I see him pop up in old movies sometimes. I love him.

What really struck me is how easy is in US to change identity and consequently life in this country. I am from Europe (namely Italy, by the way, i apologyze for my english) and here you can do NOTHING without an identity card. Here if police stops you for whatever reason, while driving or even walking and you haven't an identity dicument, they can 'arrest' you until you show who you are, let alone get married or find a job.
So, it's really true that USA is the land of freedom and opportunities, but this man and his story is the price to pay for this freedom and the 'other side of the coin'.
Well, it was many years ago that this guy did all this. As we saw in the video, Mike said he lost a job because the ID number he gave belonged to a serial killer. So, the system was getting more in place by then. It was catching up to him.
These days, I'd say it would be nigh impossible to get by with the things this guy did. Except pretending to be hoity-toity and rubbing elbows with folks at the fancy dinner parties and what not....Anybody can do that.
@@hayesjulie good to know situation had improved: increasing security without decreasing freedom is the dream of every country.

He is an opportunistic killer. Not the typical serial killer who enjoys killing. But the type who would kill if pushed into a corner. Not sure which is more dangerous. But makes me wonder how many are out there. How many are getting away with murderer in places where people don't really build pools. So many wondering thoughts right now. Great video Mike!👏
I hope the pool building thing was a joke. It's not a common way to find dead bodies :)
I teach high school in Indiana. The best part of my Tuesday’s and Friday’s is coming home to watch That Chapter. Thank you so much Mike for keeping me life exciting. I always say that if you want to get away with a crime, go to Greene county Indiana. There are so many unsolved cases here. Maybe you can cover one of the many cases we have. Again, thank you so much Mike. You rock!
Same here in Morgan County Indiana!! Glad to see someone so close, and I have some family down your way. Yes I can agree on your comment! Thank you for what you do, educating children today can be tough!
@@ivanjones3441 your name suits you.
Ivan one thing I do know about you is you have nothing better to do with your time than to troll someone’s post just to be negative. Did you do it just to get something start? I’m thinking that is how you are. I’m sure I’m not the only one you have done this too. Happy trolling Ivan
I hope you don't teach English. I know teachers' salaries are notoriously low, but holy crap.
@@mnschoen I feel sorry for you. I hope you find purpose in your life
One of the strangest murder-fraud cases on how “Clark” was able to lie, cheat and steal in more ways than one. I was floored when they detailed how he came up with the elaborate ruses
Hit me up 👆👆👆👆👆👆""
The stars have truly aligned when THAT CHAPTER & UNSOLVED MYSTERIES are in the same RUclips video 🎉
Yeah it’s that chapter day.. whoop. Also getting so close to 2 million!! So pleased for you Mike. Really deserve it
I'm sure I've been here since about 10k!
@@DarkCaseDocumentaries literally just had that conversation with my misses. Came to the conclusion I’d been watching since about 200k
@@baz9887 that still counts as OG haha.
Ahhh, giving it a goo is my bi weekly TC spa treatment - truly a salve for my soul during a really rough and unsettling life/work phase … thank you, Mike 💕🤓👍
Initially I had no idea what the story was about because of the name Clark Rockefeller. When I saw the couple it started coming back to me.I have seen this story told before, but in a different way
Mike truly is the best. Thank you Mike!
Yay! Right on time!
I think another good "conman" to cover would be the Mark Hoffman case from Utah. The guy was so good at forging documents that he fooled the feds and the mormon leadership. He ends up responsible for two bombing deaths, two seriously injured one of them being himself (mark hoffman). I think your storytelling style would be perfect for that case.
Ohhhhhh! I don’t know this one! Gonna have to check that story out! I must say that mike makes the con men stories interesting because the news only ever gives facts, so I’ve rarely felt the need to look into most of them. This was a good one
He did
@@coolinmac no, that chapter did Mathew hoffman, the tree wierdo.
That sounds interesting 🤔......
He already covered Mark Hoffman, only a few months ago. Definitely worth a watch!
It reminds me of a more recent case of Anna Sorokin. She also just pretended well enough for everyone to believe she is who she claimed to be. And she also had ties with Germany and claimed to be related to some royalty. I guess there are many of con artists around.
I was just going to say, wasn't she also from Germany 😂
I automatically thought of her too. If they ever met they'd either love each other or hate each other. They could play a game of oneupmanship.
Amazing how you were able to tell this story. Great work!
Hurraaaaaaay!!!! Thanks, Mike!
Great stuff. Signed, Mary Vanderbilt.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how well Mike did with this guy's last names?! And the 🏆 goes to.....
Well done!
Imagine being the person who was the new owner. That would be crazy. And how sad his mom was looking for him untill she died and he was in her yard.
The Unsolved Mysteries music sent a nostalgic chill down my spine. That show scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
It did, but it got me interested in true crime!
That was a crazy story. Could someone really keep track of their lies on post its? Wow! Thanks for all you do for us Mike ❤✌
One of the best days of the week for me. Thanks Mike. Love ya
@27:48.......that chuckle after, "if not, that's okay, too.", is so wholesome. His outtros **always** put a smile on my face, no matter my mood...which is a pretty big feat if i say so myself.🤷🏼♀️😂😎💞
This was truly one of your best videos and that is saying something because all your videos are next level awesome. The amount of research for this one must have been insane. Thank you Mike 🥰
He did an excellent job covering a very complex story!

Damn, didn’t have to do her like that.
Mike: "Can't say 'natural causes' (does air quotes) when they're dug up from inside a plastic bin..." LMAO 🤣
Yay. My Tuesday bright spot🔥🔥
This is one of your most entertaining videos(although all of them are) but I laughed many times because of your storytelling and your humor. Thank you for that Mike 😊 and also for always being respectful to the victims 🙌🏻
Amazing how I can hear stories that Mike covers by other crime you tubers, and yet, it's as if I'm hearing it for the first time. I really appreciate that about Mike. Well done. Keep it going. I'm a binge watcher!
OMG, that Unsolved Mysteries clip!!! ❤ That face, that voice, the music, those reenactments. Took me right back to childhood. Thanks for paying whatever royalties it took to include that. ☺
