Fake Royalty, Real Killer | The Case of Count Albrecht Muth

  • Viola Drath was married to the much younger Albrecht Muth, living in Georgetown. However, who really was Albrecht 'Count Albi' Muth? A secret agent? UN diplomat? Iraqi Special Forces Commander? Or a simple German con-man, who would do anything to get his hands on Viola Drath's money?

    Thing of it is, if he weren't so whack, he could have *had* everything he wanted. All he had to do was be a decent person and keep an elderly lady company and do some tasks for her, and in return he could have had options and help from the rich and powerful, and eventually even some of her estate no doubt.
    It's the "decent person" part that he got hung up with...

    • @tintinismybelgian
      @tintinismybelgian 2 года назад +15

      Maybe I misheard Mike, but weren't they married for twenty-some years? If he'd married her later (closer to her natural expiry), he could've kept the "decent person" charade going long enough for her not to want to divorce him.

    • @animerlon
      @animerlon 2 года назад +12

      He might have been unique in his eccentric affectations & characters he imagined for himself, but unfortunately, he's far from unique in getting hung up on the 'decent person' part.

There's at least one crime podcaster I can't watch anymore because I don't trust what he says when he put out incorrect information in one of the crime stories he was relating which led some commenters to believe an innocent man could have committed the murder. It wasn't a minor detail. It only takes to double check the facts before it results in misleading the viewers.

    My grandmother lived to be 98 and there were 2 different times that she hired caregivers and hid the emotional and financial abuse from her family. In fact I became her Summer caregiver and because of that I was able to get into her financial records and caught the first woman stealing from her and treating her very poorly. Same thing happened with the next person...they stole from her also and didn't care for her well at all. My grandmother took the abuse because she was terrified of being alone! These people also physically neglected her and I'm sure she was afraid for her life. My family lived far from her and we tried to put her in a facility but she refused. She was totally mentally sound and had nothing wrong with her but age so we couldn't force her. It was a completely awful situation. It sounds like that is what this poor woman went through something even worse. I'm sure Albert threatened all sorts of terrible things in addition to beating her. She was probably terrified of him and and afraid that he would kill her if she kicked him out. Sadly, she wasn't wrong. As soon as she decided "Enough is Enough" he murdered her. He's just evil, to torture and murder an elderly person takes a special kind of psycho!

    That police interrogation is pretty comical, haven't watched the entire video yet, but clearly Count Al is a smart dude. The police officers on the other hand are not, stuttering, pausing, trying to be clever and failing miserably in their attempts to manipulate someone obviously smarter than them. Count Al is clearly annoyed and losing his patience, I would be too.
    One thing I've learned from Mike's videos is how inept, inarticulate and transparent those interrogators are, every now and then there is actually a clever one, but most of the time it obvious they didn't get there because they were the sharpest tool in the shed, or maybe they were, which is pretty sad.

  • @LifeInPink999

    It’s sad, he caught this woman in a moment of pain and loneliness, I doubt she wanted him to be her gigolo or something like that I feel she was just a person who didn’t want to spend the rest of her years alone and more after her husband’s death with her kids all grown up living their lives away from her. Very, very sad she seemed an interesting person who aged with grace (I wish I look like that if I live to 99) and probably would have been smarter than that if it was not for her loneliness.
    The idea that she was 99 and was spoiling this little prick without asking anything but company and help, that even accepted him living his life with a male partner for the sake of not being alone and forgave him his mistreatment of her, he still was ungrateful enough to abuse her again not even talking to wait and let her live the time she had left in peace.
    I don’t understand it, even putting my mind in such disgusting person if you really are that heartless just let the woman live the time she is left why bear her, why murder her when she already was giving you everything? If he had some intelligence he would have been nice to her and would walk off from this marriage of “mutual convenience” a rich man just as he wanted.
    Anyway a very sad story indeed she deserved better and could have done better, it’s amazing how even an intelligent person may make commit a mistake and involve herself with a monster if the circumstances are bad enough.

    He was one class above me when i was at school and we often played cards during the breaks. When this story was first told in Germany i recognised him as i lost sight of him when he left school.
    His first name (at that time) is in fact Albrecht Gero and we used this name as a nick name for all the lads who wore suits (we wore jeans and stuff), listened to classical music (we were at heavy metal and so) , were never invited to any parties, and never had s…x, but had the best grades in all school exams…. I do not know how those guys are called in the us, but i am sure you remember some of those „Albrecht Gero‘s“ from your past school or university.

    • @mink99a
      @mink99a 2 года назад +18

      He grew up in Bergisch Gladbach, a city close to cologne, not in cologne itself. His mother was a teacher at the school he attended. Even his last name at that time was not Muth, but a double name, so he was not Albert/Albrecht Muth, but Albrecht Gero Muth Blossfeld (or so) . With such a name you will have difficulties and become the victim of mobbing….. of course we made his name to Albrecht Gero Muth Bloss Nicht where Bloss nicht is german for beware or stay away…..

    • @mink99a
      @mink99a 2 года назад +20

      I did not know what became of him, as i lost contact when he left school. But in fact he was nobody’s friend. His attitude was always „i am better than anybody else“ and this pseudo-elitarian approach, of which his clothing, his language, his isolation (i do not listen to your music, i do not go out with you) was a symptom. He must have been very lonesome, and this is the sad part of this story too. As i see it, his mother made him that way, and by this „i am better than everybody else“ his latter behaviour may be explained, his lies and fairy tales.
      I was rather astonished when i read about this case in a German magazine.
