I’ve got the Clear Yamaguchi too, so I’m really looking forward to some masks for it too. These build videos are getting me excited to get back to a decades old kit I never got around to
Your craft mat is starting to look like a space navigator's chart. it's got an eclipse, some distant stars and nebulas. Lol! Great video as always. And congratulations on your masks being used in the March issue of Fine Scale Modeler magazine! To the top!
Beautiful work on the masking! Will have to get a set for my clear Yamaguchi. That pleasant Vallejo smell you mentioned, that's propylene glycol. It's a mild alcohol sometimes used as a sweetener among other things. Don't know about Mecha Color, but it's used in Vallejo's Model Air and thinners. I always smell candy when I spray it.
Your weird week is our pleasure to watch. Rode right along on your enthusiastic wave. Seems to me this is more like what you used to do-- where you had a locked off camera POV and we would watch you get the work done. I like it coming back. Interesting to see your color choices-- I may be imagining that I can "see" what you see-- I have been watching this through this chain of cameras and monitors for a while. I am now most curious about the "misting" layer later. I spotted your heap o" junk-- the stuff on your L table -- a while back and felt a deeper kinship. Your model room is daunting and awe-worthy, but thank God you have heaps of mish-mash all over too. But! Funny pat-on-the-back moment was when I spotted a corner of a large Martian War Machine (from the movie) and recognized it instantly. Nerd attack. And I wonder what it's doing on the floor. Progressing rather quickly, delays and all-- looking good.
Hey Lou, watch out for the necell wing corners,as they tend to crack even after they are painted, so reinforce those corners. And trenching out the wing will help with getting the 2 halves to join together better . Also the seam on the saucer needs reinforcing to stop cracking even after it has been painted. Hope this helps.
A "clean" studio is a sign of a deranged mind. What's more deranged is to ask: When you're done, wanna come over my place and clean too? And the scary part is I think I know WHY you're "cleaning" the studio. (how far does one go on Deranged Road before insanity?) Kudos to that! Nice you're taking the plunge! The resin is warm. Just don't drown in it like have filament has wrapping me up like a mummy. I like the fact you went back to an old kit and made justice to it. Well done, Lou, on the C.
Off to a great start Lou!! The painting is looking really good. I did't realize there were so many different shades of color on the C. Can't wait to see the lighting solution with the fiber you were telling me about. I got my new FineScale Modeler today and I'm looking forward to reading Aaron's article.
I always loved how the Enterprise C looked, would have been fun to have seen a mini-series or the like to have followed it through some of its adventures.
Awesome paint job on the C's primary hull; looking forward to seeing how you finish this one out. Also, the drama around your work space woes was riveting! BTW on an unrelated note, Walmart is selling an exclusive electronic Robby The Robot; it walks, it talks, it's a mechanical marvel and it's selling for a paltry $20. Might make a nice companion piece to that awesome C57D you put together a while a go. I believe there's also an electronic Iron Giant for sale there as well for the same price.
I like to say that I enjoy watching your videos here right along with a two other people that I view to get a lot of good ideas for my modeling. And I would like to let you know that you did get a shout out from Christopher Olson about your masking products.
Hi Lou! Love your work. You seem to struggle with cutting chases for insulated wire. Consider using thin strips of adhesive-backed aluminum duct tape from any home improvement store. Separation between the strips provides insulation. (Think, printed circuit board.)
Hi Lou hope all is well with you. Can you tell me where I can go to find replacement decals for the Jupiter 2 from the movie 1998? I looked and keep getting for toys and Military aircraft and ships.
I just recently got back into scale modeling. I want to do an Enterprise, but I'm not ready for aztek pattern. I will build the Enterprise from the original series.
After 24 years away from the hobby, my parents gave me the Space Seed Edition of the TOS Enterprise in 1000 scale by Polar Lights. I built it as the I.S.S. Enterprise pretending to be the 2nd Pilot Enterprise, along with the Botany Bay. I just posted the video here: ruclips.net/video/ROJd64Fxm6E/видео.html
Why do you five to six wires for the nacelles? Could you not just one set for the strobes and one for steady lights? Making it three to four lights. The the fixed light wire splits into two strands for the different colors with different resistors. Would that not work just as well?
the way the lighting board is configured, I need 2 each for the nav, strobe & front bussard. they all use the same common positive so that worked out to 4 wires total (1 pos and 3 neg) the blue warp engine strip lighting needs it's own dedicated 2 wires because I runs on straight 9v. so 6 grand total
If you're gonna light anything, don't forget the Torpedo Launchers on the studio model are recessed in a bright blue backlit area in the base of the neck. If you need some high res photos of the studio model, I'd be happy to send them if you don't have them.
Thanks for showing your masking/painting/peeling process in detail, I really enjoyed that. One really unrelated question... does your old RCA CED player still work?
I've been wondering about the operating status Lou's CED player myself. I used to have one of those many, many years ago. I remember my brother, my father and I trudging thru the snow in the winter to pick it up at Lechmere. I even remember the very first disc we bought for it: Star Trek: The Menagerie.
@@aztekdummyYou may be able to replace the belt; I recently watched this interesting retrospective on CED players and there was a section on doing some basic, inexpensive repairs including fixing the belt drive. ruclips.net/video/0LrPe0rwXOU/видео.html
Awesome job, as always, Lou! The paint scheme for this particular ship has always been my bugaboo.....One question....would it be a space-saver to have your nav lights and strobe lights as fiber-optics with colored (or clear) lenses and run to either a strobe or regular bulb? That could help with your lack of space through your nacelle pylons.Just wondering...keep up the great work!
Hey Lou, recently used the k't'inga mask set and it was great.... now i need the 1/1400 Enterprise E mask set .... any chance you will do that one any time soon ?? just ordered the model and getting ready to order the light kit ... need the masks!!!
@@aztekdummy thanks for the reply, i wondered about the size also, saw a video where someone did a masking and paint but not at all sure how he did the tiny masks, possibly that paint on mask stuff ?
I made this model years ago! But hand painted w/o the masks! And I used fiber optics too! Came out really nice!
I did it that way too, years ago, but w/o lighting.
The C is One of my favorite enterprises.
Constitution-Class Refit for me, but the "C' is good too.

The skill and patience you have for creating these masks is mind blowing .
Paint job is spectacular well done.its one of the hardest paint schemes to paint .I wish your paint mask were available when I did mine.

Looks great and I wish I had these masks when I built mine! Had to use vinyl detail tape to make the circular edges for masking and it took forever

Love that you are using the tripod! :-)
The escape pods on Ambassador class ship studio models are white. Ex Astris Scientia has lots of ENT-C and USS zhukov images.
I'm sorry, I meant USS Yamaguchi not Zhukov.
I'm looking at a picture of the filming model of the C (the one with all the battle damage) and the pods are the same beige as the D ( and Voyager)
