No, the steering column lock it's plug and play. That was my 09 altima hybrid culprit. Take your ride to any Nissan Dealer, they'll fix it for free (recall lol).
I have a 2010 Nissan Maxima, got in with key fob, but it was displaying "no key" tried both of the key fob's, so it wasn't a dead key fob battery. All I did to fix it was pull the neg. cable off of the battery for about 5 min. Hooked it back up, got in, and the car started. Try this before anything else. Car alarm might go off when you re-connect the cable, but it will stop after a min.

Do all Altimas' have this steering lock? I have a 2011 that i replaced the main computer in. trying to re register the key to the car but i will not work, not matter what I do. I got the 4 digit pin code for the BCM from the dealer. It just keeps telling me the conditions are not met. I can put the intelligent key in the cylinder and push the button, and the dash lights will come on like normal. But if I step on the brake and push the button, nothing happens. No crank. I can hear the fuel pump turn on when i push the button and theres a P1612 in the module all the time. I assume because the key is not programmed. Wondering if the issue is the lack of the steering wheel lock. I took the cover down and see there is no steering lock on this car. I see where it would go, but theres nothing there.

I replaced the battery and got nothing but the key light and the push foot on brake. My interior lights come on but nothing else. My doors won't lock either. Anyone know what it could be and if it's the same thing?
Yup! There are several people on forums who literally remove the fuse responsible for the steering lock just to avoid it from going bad. I’m thinking of doing the same thing once I replace this expensive part.
Thank you! Indeed, I am in Mexico and recalls here are valid a couple of years afterwards. I am having this very same problem. Just called the dealer and the part is close to 200 USD here, plus $35 labor. Your videos are of great help. Thanks for posting.
So, to make a long story short, this video was very helpful for finding the part. I banged it 4 times with a steel piece and the car came back to life and was able to start! As other notes say, this part is defective and needs replacement. I just had the car checked by dealer (in the city of Queretaro, México) and confirmed that the part failing is the ESCL. They quoted $9,500 MXN (just short of $500 USD) to have the part replaced (part number 48700-9N00B), including labor. I called Nissan Mexicana to request them to honor the voluntary recall that Nissan North American is implementing for having these cars fixed. Even while my car was sold in Mexico it is the same Altima sold in the USA, it was assembled in the USA, it is the 2009 model, and the failure and affected part is exactly the same. Everything is technically the same as for the cars covered by the bulletin. However, I got the obvious answer: "the bulletin is for cars sold in the USA by Nissan North America, your car was sold in Mexico by Nissan Mexicana and is not covered by the recall". Just like that. At the end, the conclusion is that this failure in the USA is considered "due to a defective part that needs replacement" (as per the bulletin). If the car was sold in Mexico to a Mexican customer it is considered "natural wear and tear" as mentioned by the Nissan Mexicana representative that looked at my case. Anyway, I am paying for the fix now. And I will certainly file a complaint against Nissan Mexicana in Mexico for this. Unless they can demonstrate there are technical reasons for the problem in Altimas sold in the USA vs those sold in Mexico to be different, they have no reason to consider it "natural wear and tear" in Mexico while they have acknowledged that the problem is a defective part in the USA.
Omg, i bought a 2010 Maxima SV. Wont start. It had 80k when i bougbt it only had over a year and half, i must of put over 5k into it already, its breaking me and i work an hour away from home, im scared to drive the car now

Report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that is the only way you can get reimbursed or get it swapped for free. The NHTSA will notify Nissan to do a service recall or service campaign announcement.
Thanks bro good 👍 job

Hello ...I have same problem I replaced it but it still not starting
New part needs to be reprogrammed to be recognized.
@@David_USC the key fob needs re programmed?
My 2012 maxima sv is kinda doing the same thing. In the middle of driving my car died. Tried to jump but got nothing. I replaced the battery and got nothing but the key light and the push foot on brake. My interior lights come on but nothing else. My doors won't lock either. Anyone know what it could be and if it's the same thing?
And I went and did all this and under my steering column I don't have one of those
The same problem is happening on all these Nissan's.. like muranos and rogues.
Yup! There are several people on forums who literally remove the fuse responsible for the steering lock just to avoid it from going bad. I’m thinking of doing the same thing once I replace this expensive part.
@@martinvazquez303 which fuse is it? That is kind of braindead
What if the light come on just doesn't start
I am having the same issue with my 09 Altima. Is this the same piece that some guys recommend to "bang" to get it unlocked and start it up?
JFAR1980 yes it is.. however there is a new recall on this part. call the dealership they will fix it for free.
JFAR1980 pc516 is the recall number. Google it
JFAR1980 that's terrible.keep at it.
Omg, i bought a 2010 Maxima SV. Wont start. It had 80k when i bougbt it only had over a year and half, i must of put over 5k into it already, its breaking me and i work an hour away from home, im scared to drive the car now
same thing happened to my 2009 Infiniti g37. im about to do this
Thanks boss man 👊
Amazing bro thanx a ton
Is this something a locksmith can do?
Hello please what is the name of the socket? do you said twin socket? THanks
Emmanuel Uko turbo Socket. Links I the description.
Well my unrecognized key light isn’t on I believe my battery is just dead
I just came from Nissan dealer they told it need to be programmed, is it true? Please anybody has a clue?
Thanks
How much is a reprogramming?
@@C000DY I did not ask how much reprogramming but the part they need to replace is $500. Hopefully they they not going to charge me programming. The value of my car $2500. It is crazy if I have to pay 1000 😳
What if you don't have the steering lock but my car was running fine until this happened
I'm having this problem now car still won't start had it towed home don't have money to repair. Nissan needs to be sued for a recall and replaced this problem 🤦🏽
If what you have going on is this problem then it is now covered under recall. Call Nissan dealer give them your VIN number and have them check to see if it applies to your vehicle.
Way if it's the alternator??????
Thanks.
How can open scru what 🔧 no
He said buy the special cheap ten millimeter socket from AutoZone that takes out bolts.
It's not the steering lock.....2012.... It's not....mbattery....
What was it? Break petal switch. Should always update solution.
Greetings: "Bypass tool" - 5lb adjusting device.
Thank you for showing how to get the stupid safety screws out. So riddle me this Batman: if you can get the safety screws out using an easy-out socket why not just put a regular bolt instead. Either way they're going to come out.......DUH!!!🙄🙄🙄
Is this for alternator or wat????
That's NOT the problem. Brake Switch/ Cruise Control...that's why u unplug FUSE sometimes it works sometimes doesn't. Brake light switch 10 out of 10.👍💯👍💯👍
Please who has the part number
i have the newest updated version available. whats your email address?
