Hey guys! Before hitting it try looking at the fuses on the positive terminal connector. One of mine were blown and it caused the intelligent key light. It costed $25 for a new one at autozone and was easy as hell to fix. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you for the video! My 09 Altima was acting exactly as you show in the video. I removed the panel around the steering column and used a big crescent wrench to bang on the module. Car started up as it always has!
I turned it off, got out, locked the doors, then got back in, started it up and drove it around the block. I left the panel loose and have my crescent wrench ready for the next time it happens.
    Thanks again!

On some of the Nissan ,when programming the Key fob, the hazard lights have to be on. Weird thing is theres hardly any info published that tell you this. Nissan is very secretive about a lot of there repair info.

    • @tedmoss

I have just recently run into this problem with my car and it is driving me nuts. I keep getting stranded because my car will not start. So... I started carrying around a similar screwdriver and a hammer and give it a tap when my car misbehaves and will not start. I know it is not a fix but I cannot fix the car like you and I have to wait until payday to take it to get it fixed. Thank you for the video, however. It was very informative and now I can tell if my mechanic is doing right by me by following videos like this. 😉

the 2009 and 2010 has a recall for the steering interlock. Dealer will replace it for free. They did not notify the public about this because they say it's not a "safety" issue. I beg to differ, if this leaves you stranded in a sketchy area after dark, I would say it IS a safety issue! Just call the dealer and ask about the recall. They will ask for the VIN (vehicle identification number) and verify your vehicle is "covered". Took them 45 minutes for a permanent repair.

Went through all the steps trying to reprogram keys and checking fuses and what not. Finally this morning i got under the dash and used a blunt phillips and a hammer and gave it a couple light taps and it fired right up. Now the question is replacing the unit will probably be a a deal. I am wondering if there is a work around to getting it disengaged and cutting power to it so it doesn't re-lock.

I'm having this same issue - I have both a red car outline with key in middle and a yellow key light ON. Went in the store came out and would not start. I have two sets of keys (fobs) and tried both so it's not a battery in the fob issue. The tow truck driver checked my car battery and it was 11. (something, a little low but all lights, locks, horn, trunk work with my fob. The car will not move out of park, brake pedal is stiff ... nothing is moving. I have tried the key fob up to the push button, and inserted in the place on the left as you show in your video and nothing. I also listened to your other suggestions but I'm a woman who lives alone and I can't afford to be getting stranded - so I don't want to have to be hitting that box every time to get it started :) So bottom line, should I take it to a reputable auto mechanic shop OR is this something THEY will refer me to the Nissan dealer after they charge me for all the diagnostics? I don't want to pay for double diagnostics and labor ...for sure! Thanks so much for you video!!
