  • Dr. Steven Gundry is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, New York Times best-selling author, and medical researcher. During his 40-year career in medicine, he has performed over 10,000 heart surgeries and developed life-saving medical technology. In 2008, his book, Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution, revealed his new career shift-using nutrition to help patients heal themselves and avoid surgery. His second book, and the subject of our discussion today, is the New York Times bestseller The Plant Paradox. The book outlines a 90-day plan for some of the world's most pressing health issues, from obesity to heart disease. Gundry MD, founded by Dr. Gundry in 2016, is a wellness blog and RUclips channel equipping people with powerful tools in the journey to reclaim their health.
In our interview today we're going to explore the very interesting world of plant lectins, a unique type of protein that plants developed to protect themselves against predation. As Dr. Gundry reveals in this interview, it turns out that plant lectins may very well be threatening to human health.
We also cover how artificial sweeteners are threatening to the gut, the dangers of soy, why we should eat foods that are "in season", and other interesting ideas as they relate to the health of the gut and to inflammation, the cornerstone of virtually all degenerative conditions.
    Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure Dr. Gundry is going to save my life. I've been to UCLA-several specialists. 2 episodes lasting 3 months long of bizarre-seemingly unrelated symptoms-no answer. I've had over 300 labs drawn and over 10 doctors of all specialties just shake their heads and say "oh it must be allergies" yet I test negative for more allergens than ever before.
Eventually with the leukocytosis it was suggested I go to an oncologist and have a bone marrow biopsy!! I'm an RN and am singing Dr. Gundry's praises. It all makes sense. So true about eating breads, cheeses, meats in Europe and then coming home to USA and gtg sick from same foods here.

Thanks for another great interview Dr. Perlmutter. It was very informative - yet depressing. Everything we've been taught about nutrition (which is very little) is totally false.

So true. Read "Back to Eden, Fit for Life (1 &2) " The North American diet(even from a medical dietician, is killing the masses of people. Lies and lack of healing methods are creating so many dis-eases and slow agonizing deaths. He is mentioning the Seventh Day Adventist hospital ...

Thankyou for all your dedication to helping us get strong and heal our bodies, I am currently reading your book "The Grain Brain" it is very touching , sincere and heartfelt, and both you and Dr Gundry are helping me understand about the detrimental effects of grains and lectins. I have removed all grains, I practice gratitude every day and I really appreciate both of your great work. God Bless you Dr Perlmutter I am finally feeling I have breakthrough from my foggy brain and reducing carbs, I have lost weight.

Many years ago, a Naturopathic physician, Dr. Peter D'Adamo, wrote a book titled, "The Blood Type Diet" wherein he postulated that lectins in different foods affected those of differing blood types by agglutinating their blood. What relationship, if any, does Dr. Gundry's work have with Dr. D'Adamo's?

So informative and also so maddening that this is allowed to happen to our food. No wonder we are so confused as to what we should be eating. If this is known, why is it allowed by the FDA?

I am gluten sensitive, my mother has celiac but I've been tested and don't have celiac but do have the celiac gene (DNA test). Whenever I have gluten I feel it in my joints and also numbness and tingling in my hands. I think people that have arthritis should give up gluten and see how they feel. I also feel this numbness/ tingling in my hands when I eat tomato sauce. I've never felt well when eating beans and legumes. I also tried making my own almond milk, soak almonds overnight but still have a reaction. I guess the lectins remain in the milk even after soaking.

    Hi Dr.Gundry,
You say in this video this video at 35.46 , that we are not designed to 365 days of endless summer. But in your book " plant Paradox you have mentioned that humans race began in Africa. So don't you think we are designed to 365 days endless summer?
I hope I my confusion cleared. I surely have few more doubts.
    Thanks in advance.

Read the book, I’ve been on his diet for eight months, 20 lbs down, blood pressure down, inflammation almost gone. Pasture raised chicken and eggs that are not grain fed, spinach, kale, lots of salads with olive oil and nuts, 72% cacao chocolate, and lots more. I don’t run around hungry

I couldn't do it ! The lack of fruit got to me, also I'm a vegetarian and the options were limited. The think that made me stop the most is that in his latest book he recommends beans and lentils. And his stories about his pacients... i dont know. I' m thinking to start again as I have autoimmune issues, but the diet isn't very sustainable to me

How on Earth am I supposed to find chickens that aren't fed corn/soy? Even Mary's Heirlooms chickens from Whole Foods, according to their website, feed their chickens a diet of 70% Corn 25% Soybean 5% Vitamins and Minerals. Any ideas??

perhaps he is right if his supposition is based on the metabolism of fructose - i think eating berries is fine - its mainly about listening to your body - on a somewhat different and more radical note - if you are interested in health being a choice for as long as you exist listen to aubrey de grey and support sens foundation who are working on therapies to eliminate ALL age related disease and death from ageing

I learn from the good doctor and his comparison of modern man to our ancestors and the *cave man diet*.I.m somewhat skeptical of all his premises and how does a man have to become obese to learn all this common sense knowlegde about food and diet.I have know all this information since a child growing on a farm.whereby we knew only organic natural food was healthy and we didnt have to drink 8 cokes a day to know what makes you fat. diabetic and obese.
