He did a great job! First time I haven't been utterly depressed watching a cat enclosure vid! Cats LOVE tree climbing so if you don't have access to 9ne you can easily make climbing poles from 25mm galvanised threaded piping and flanges insulated by hollow pool noodles and some type of cosmetic covering/fabric. The steel pipings also great for making spiral staircases using the flange to attach each stair/platform. You can also but cat poles 'paws cat trees' for $50-$60 on eBay which have a great spring mechanism to keep it firmly centered between floor and ceiling. I like to use these and swap out the platforms.
Such a tricky space to work with all the angles and elevation. Love how a couple of days has literally changed and expanded these cute cats world. Absolutely awesome❣
I just stumbled across this! Only 3 weeks ago we decided to at cat netting, and wow! I paid for it to be installed and had zippers as door ways added. Best money I have ever spent my cats are safe and our crazy Eclectus parrot is happy also as it's about 6.5 meters by 6.5 meters truly it like an additional room on the house, and bonus not telling kiddos to watch the cats getting out all the time 😊💖
@@leefeatherstone5036 Why not build it yourself? All you need is some lumber and chicken wire.. you don't need any fancy cat netting or anything. Use 2x4's or 2x2's. It's an extremely simple build that doesn't require very many tools. You could get the big box store to even cut the lumber for you.
Thanks for the video, I have just got a cat that has become a Houdini. He used a tree to get outside the cat net, I'm going to use the stainless steel wire to elevate the net in the tree, also the hammock made form cat net might help as he thought the larger net was a great place to nap on. It was a bit distressing to see him above it like a trapeze artist.
I've just seen this video. Thanks for the whole instructions. We have 7 cats here and a lot of backyard space for building safe cats enclosures from some of the windows. (Curitiba, Brazil)
I'm so happy you made this video. My cat has been hurt a lot while outside. She almost lost her leg and we had to get one of her eyes removed. She only has a thin layer of skin on her leg which makes it super fragile and she keeps getting wounds when she's outside. She's not doing well inside at all, her behaviour has changed drastically and I am desperate to find a solution so she can still be outside. Thank you for this
It's good to see an Aussie (especially a guy) go all out & build a great enclosure for their cats. I found that there's a lot of Aussies that don't like cats & this is the 1st cat enclosure video made by an Aussie that I have seen. It saddens me to learn that the Aussies who don't like cats wouldn't devote any time to understand them either. Good on ya for leading the way to show people what you would do for your cats because you love, respect & care enough to keep them safe.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out a way to create a second barrier in my small backyard to safely transport my flighted parrots from the house to their outdoor aviary without a carrier. It'd be nice to sit with them in the yard as well without taking up space in their aviary lol. Alas, the husband did have to get a new zip code so I'd be doing this myself -nothing new, hence the new zip lol- and I'm on my second round of a mere 30 years young 😉, so I'm not about going to go into full construction mode. You did a great job clearly explaining this! I believe this is doable & budget friendly compared to some of the suggestions I considered. While I certainly couldn't leave parrots with a 350 psi bite unattended (we'll just leave that for my furniture and fingers🙄), this would absolutely provide that extra layer of safety. Also, have you had any problems with wild birds or other critters getting tangled in the netting?
Thanks for the comment! I never thought about this application and it's a great idea with supervision! No issues with other animals that i've experienced. Thanks for watching 😇
amazing ..would love to do this to stop my cat upsetting neighbours by chasing their chickens!! looked at wooden enclosures but very small and limiting.
🤣🤣 Love the part with the cat going full Gangsta through the window screen instead of the cat door 😂😂 I got a gangster cat like that who’d rather use triple the effort to bust through the screen & jump over the cat door instead of through it 😂😂 I can definitely see the dilemma with those push out windows. They’d be a pain in the rear to work around for a catio but you’ve done well!! Have you had any problems with the cats getting their claws caught in the netting at all?
Thabk you this is so helpful...iv got a long strip of grass with 2 colcbond fences and gates but cat netting is perfect for me to full enclose off the roof of the strip so I can make a predator proof poultry run for some turkeys ducks and chickens.
Awe, I can see why a cat net would work for your particular space. Good job with the install and video. Great view on the roof top too for your beautiful cats. Were you thinking of doing a follow up say in 6-12 months for update?
I calculate how many I need based on the assumption that 1 turnbuckle is enough for 2 sides. They key is to keep the cable tight and needs to be pinned to the wall at regular intervals so that the cats can't squeeze out anywhere
@@dingeldiy Thanks for responding! so do you mean that if i use a turnbuckle for "a" side, it will be enough for the side that is in front of the a side too? Idk if you get what I mean
@@dingeldiy I'm actually building a cat enclosure right now for my boss so I found your video really useful and it's coming up great! Yes you'd think they would supply stainless stuff. I just bought the netting from CatNets and fittings from Bunnings. They were pretty reasonable for price. Thanks for your video.
I love this, looks amazing. Quick question where did you get your Perspex from and is your window open all the time or do you close it at night? I have a wind-out window myself and I’ve been trying to figure out how to use it as a cat window too, your video is the first I’ve seen with one 👏🏻
No issues at all. The key is to get things tight from the start and check any gaps with your fist. If your fist will fit through your cat may escape. Our cats gave it their best shot to begin with but now theyre happy playing and sleeping in the hammock
Start with the obvious places. There is always timber on both sides of the windows. Then after that it's sometimes guess work. Where I live studs are generally spaced 450mm apart but not always. Other methods would include using a magnet to find the screw heads for the screws that hold the cladding on or using a stud finder internally and then transferring those measurements from internal to external using a reference point like a door or window. Hope this helps!
Cats will always find an opening, I swear. I want to make this on our basic square balcony but I'm not sure how to attach the netting in a temporary, nondestructive way because we live in a rental.
what do you care about more.. you pets safety and happiness and your stress free life, or a some screws and bolts going in to the static walls and fences on your house?

yes but ideally bolts and washers would be best if you have access

Perspex was from bunnings warehouse, the window does stay open all the time but its not noticeable. Better to deal with that than having no cat flap

No issues at all. The key is to get things tight from the start and check any gaps with your fist. If your fist will fit through your cat may escape. Our cats gave it their best shot to begin with but now theyre happy playing and sleeping in the hammock
