My initial reaction to the footage of inside Marmont was, "how did he get away with that" because just on their reputation alone and their overboard discretion to the privacy of their guest gave me a sense that they would be displaying an "attitude" that you would not be happy with.
I enjoyed meeting your friends.. Hope they had safe travels. Joni Mitchell's house is great. I love how it blends in with the woods. I didn't know she was a painter and designed her album covers! Very Cool.
Joni Mitchell will be the first to say that she is a painter first and a musician secondly. Go figure. Either way she's great at both. I'm a die-hard fan since the beginning of her career.
The whole classic rock n roll scene is on my bucket list. Laurel Canyon, Big Sur, Sunset Strip.. so much history. Just to walk where they walked, see things that they saw .... would possibly give the perspective they had. But, here we are in the times of hurry hurry get it done....it's not the same & I'm not sure people create music like that anymore, the music where your friends or just other musicians came by & everyone played & it might become a song or it might not. Now it's the days of auto tune & computer generated. I was in love with the whole scene, Morrison, Parsons, Nash, Ronstadt, Mitchell, Slick, Mama Cass....I can thank my aunt for turning me on to a lot of things from those times & taking me along for the "ride" on occasion even though I was a little young.
Thanks for the memories. In 1974 I was living off Laurel Canyon Blvd. & Kling St. just a few blocks east of the 101. I worked in West Hollywood and would take Laurel Canyon Drive over the winding hills to Sunset Blvd, then drive West almost to Santa Monica. That was my daily drive & I loved passing through the Canyon wondering what celebrities might come driving past. I was a 19 year old newlywed living, working & commuting in Los Angeles for the first time.
Love Joni & Crosby Stills Nash & then Young. Oh to be a fly on the wall during one of those jam sessions... Our House is my husband's and my song ❤️ Thank you, Jordan
Wow..Thoroughly enjoyed this vlog with your friends visiting. Enjoy Kevin’s music also in your videos. Your videos make me feel proud that I live in the LA suburbs. I never realized how much history was surrounding us until you showed us what we were missing. Thank you for enriching our lives, Jordan❣️🙏🏻 Thank you for sharing Jah with us too. ❤️❤️🐕🦺🌴🌈👏
Jordan, Thank You !!! Considering how much I love Joni Mitchell, the Laurel Canyon period, all the music history of peers of the day etc. This is one of, if not my all time favorite video, so jam packed !!! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the doggie, small tidbits about your personal life and all, but this type of knowledge and your appreciation of history and back lot goings on, are what I ENJOY MOST !!! Thanks again, glad authorities are taking action against your harassment, hope all is well and God Bless!!!
Joni Mitchell's house has so much sentimental value and see her house and her still being the owner brings back so many health feelings. Being in that era was amazing and Joni Mitchell's music was part of a time where everyone was excepted. This tour of Laurel Canyon still has the same influence of good will for all. A charming place to surrender yourself to.
The canyon at the time must have been an amazing place to be. Nobody was trying to be cool or project an image, just a bunch of highly talented and creative kids making music together and living their lives with no idea that they were making history or would become legendary.
You mean what they just tried to do with YT influencers in 2015 when the big wigs decided influencers were the new gig for the public. Hollywood was always a place to brag to your friends that you made it even if you had roommates or were kinda struggling.
I have ALWAYS wondered what the Laurel Canyon house looks like, just from being such a big fan of Joni and Graham's. It was fascinating to virtually be able to walk up to it and see everything in such detail. Thankyou for a great video
My mom LOVED Our House the song. She said it reminded her of me and her living together when I was in high school, and we had 2 cats and I did all the cooking and cleaning while she worked. She said my job was to get thru high school! Good to finally see Kevin after hearing him so long! Great vlog. Love anything about Laural Canyon. Wicked history!
Robin Luck.. traffic in Laurel Canyon is horrible in the mornings and evenings. That’s why I changed my eye doctor from Beverly Hills to closer to the Valley area. But the history is beautiful in the canyons on how they got inspired with their music.
When I went to California last year, first stop in LA was her Lauren Canyon house! The gate was open so I could see inside better. And then I went back in Feb this year and they were doing some sort of construction work inside... Lovely house, lovely neighborhood, it just blows my mind all the magic that went on there.
Great content. Just outstanding. Grew up down the road and to the left on Hollywood Blvd. Scooped ice cream at Thrity’s, drank beer at Carlos & Charley’s, delivered for Pink Dot. Great job, kid!!
Just wanted to thank you for the great tour! Brought back a lot of great memories... And as Paul S. wrote "Preserver your memories, there all that's left you".
I love Joni and her music..I also love CSN&Y, I listen to their music back in the day when I was a teenager...And I still listen to their music, it never gets old to me..Ladies of The Canyon, is one of my favorite Joni Mitchell albums. I love most of all the songs on that album, one being the Ladies of the Canyon..Joni's description of all the ladies living there made the song so interesting to me..In fact I would picture all the ladies Joni wrote about in that song..Joni had a way of telling her story through her songs, which is why I love her song writing..Our House, by Graham Nash is another song I always loved..I would also have a picture in my minds eye what it was like that Graham was singing about. I didn't know at first he was writing that song with Joni in mind..I learned later on the song was about him and Joni, and the love they had for each other..It made his song even more lovely after I learned about the meaning behind it..Thanks for posting this video, I know I wouldn't be up that way to Calif, or to Laurel Canyon..But seeing Joni's home, and it's surroundings, made me feel I could be there! One line in the song from "Our House" that always sticks with me is: 'I'll light the fire while you place the flowers that bought today'...Now I know and saw where Joni bought those flowers from that little store on the corner... And she placed the flowers in the vase, such a cozy room!
I'm surprised that with such a lengthy comment about "Ladies of the Canyon" you didn't notice that Jordan cited the title of the album and song incorrectly (3:11) in this video. I left a comment for him. Being I die-hard fan of Joni since day one, I notice those little things.
Another important figure from this scene I admire so much, and hope to meet in the afterlife 🙂 is Cass Elliot. I wonder what Joni would have written about her, had she done a longer version of the song Ladies of the Canyon! Cass was so instrumental in important happenings there. She was the LC Ambassador, Den Mother, matchmaker/Yenta, and hostess extraordinaire. The photos taken in her backyard are among my favorites. That shot of Eric Clapton watching in awe at Joni playing guitar is just…everything! Crosby’s smug “Yeah, she’s MY discovery” look on his face is hilarious.
Love seeing the snippet of Joni's house - appreciate your post. I've been a huge fan of her's since 1966 and have all her recordings. Have seen Joni each time she came to Toronto, Ont. Canada (where I still live). First saw her in concert at the Mariposa Folk Festival, summer of '68 here in T.O. Sending Joni's healing thoughts as I play "Ladies of the Canyon". Happy 75th!
Laurel Canyon is like the love letter to the sixties , so many legends lived there over the years . Love Joni Mitchell wondered when you would do her , good job ! Sorry you got a bad reception at Chateau Marmot hotel oh well their loss . On catch up again but nice video to start my mini binge . 👍🏻🦁🐶🎥🎬💙😎🇺🇸🎤🎼🌴👍🏻
I have read a fair amount about Laurel Canyon's history, but I have never been there. This excellent video tour gave kind of a more physical dimension to the stories about Joni Mitchell, Zappa, Jim Morrison, the Hyatt House, Ciro's, etc. Not quite the same as going there, but the next best thing, and a whole lot cheaper. Very well done!
Same for me, David…I’m just a bit obsessed with the whole scene and history but haven’t seen it in person, YET. Thank you, Jordan, for all your tours, but this one especially! So cool that you are enough of a Joni fan to put that focus on “Our House”! And great to see the store on the inside. And Jim’s house…and Frank’s house… Damn, I need to get my butt out there! Trying to figure out a polite and unobtrusive way to meet Joni. She’s one of 2 artists I really need to meet before I kick it!
David Carpenter, Have you read “Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon”? It’s chock full of conspiracy theories*, and the writing is pretty sensationalist, BUT there is plenty of factual, verifiable info about the history (going back to the early 1900’s), the people, the homes…worth a read if you are voraciously curious about the history. *theorizing that the government created the hippie movement to delegitimize the anti-war effort, performed LSD experiments on many residents, and that a majority of the musicians were somehow agents of our military intelligence groups. It is true that a surprising number of them were children of military and specifically intelligence operatives. And then there’s that inconvenient fact that Jim Morrison’s father basically started the Vietnam war…
This was just awesome, I love Joni Mitchell! That's such a beautiful picture of her in front of the window and how cool is it that she still owns the house? Makes me like her even more. Wow! Lauren Canyon. Such history and I'm amazed at how many of the original houses remain.
Fun tour, thanks for sharing! Joni is five years older than I am and the quintessential artist. I myself am a professional artist, musician/composer so she's an inspiration to us all in the arts. Great little house, would love to see the rest of it. Interesting to see the Comedy Club once Ciro's and must be an incredible place to visit along with all the other great sites! Sure are a lot of places to visit and hike around L.A.!
This rocked!!! I love the Canyon something mystical about it..always have been drawn to this area even though I've never been. I adore Joni Mitchell.❤️🌼🌼
Born and raised here in Southern California (1965). Lived here all my life, and have not been to many of the places you've shown in this 15 minute video. Thanks fo the inspiration. Although, I did cringe just a bit when you were filming right outside Ms. Mitchell's home for internet broadcasting purposes. Hopefully, other people will show a little more personal respect for the occupants who actually live there (doubt it...😣). Other than that, very cool video. thanks for posting. 👍😀
how wonderful to see a face of your friends, and music. i miss you! been so busy in this crazy time. so I am going back thru old bloggs. This one was such a treat. love ya Jordon
I love the ambiance of Laurel Canyon. It's no wonder the great songwriters flocked there and you capture it through your camera. Since I will most likely never to get there to see it in person, Thank you so much Jordan
It might be because I am from such a small town in Ohio myself. You always do an excellent job on your vlogs. I love the back histories and it is always fun to see where you are taking us next!
Can you imagine having Joni Mitchell as your landlord 🤩 love Joni Mitchell and the song out house reminds of when my exhusband and I first started dating. I really really enjoyed this episode. I'm finding myself mini binging on your videos!
Jordan: vlogger/ tour guide! Was hoping you and Kevin would bust out a tune but maybe next time. Love Laurel canyon must have been everything to have lived on love street. A lot of nostalgia left to be enjoyed. Another excellent adventure thanks Jordan. Jah?
Brings back memories of my youth. I was a teen in the 60's, as a matter of fact I was 14 in 1964. Oops, now you know how old I am. I often reminisce of those wonderful years, with a smile on my face.
Cool vids..They sell my book there at the register at the Canyon Country Store.. It tells the story behind some of those iconic songs incl Our House.. :))
Love your vlogs. I've visited LA and vicinity a few times, and watching your vlogs refreshes my memories of what is one of the most interesting places I've been to.
What an amazing lobby! I was expecting it to be more in line with an apt building or residential hotel where they discourage lingering in the lobby. Great walking tour!
Thank you Jordan the Lion for showing that! I'm of all big fan of all those music artist! And was right by those places at the ASCAP Conference in 2014. I should of stop and visit some of the those historical landmarks. Next time... Keep up the excellent channel!
Need to read book WEIRD SCENES INSIDE THE CANYON by Dave McGowan. He researches the military involvement with the area and the musicians--definitely not what we believed it to be.
That changed my entire outlook on the ‘60’s and ‘70’s scene. I kind of feel now like a kid who finds out that Santa isn’t real. An overwhelming disappointment followed up with deep skepticism and I guess no longer seeing through a glass darkly.
Great job! I love Joni, and every performer from the canyon from the day. That’s my generation of music. As an artist I have always admired Joni’s artwork. Nice to see the history. Thanks! Wasn’t The House Of Blues where Phil Spector picked up Ms Clarkson on that fatal night?
Great video. I tend to forget that Los Angeles does draw a lot of tourists. Beautiful views and your friends have some nice pictures to take back with them. No big loss not seeing The Chateau Marmont again if that's their attitude. I'm surprised to hear they're tearing down The House of Blues. That used to be a busy place. I guess the Sunset Strip is like Las Vegas and they always have to change it. Thanks for the great tour and can't wait to see where we go next. Safe travels and take care.
Best video in the past few months...... it shows youre a gracious host and kind person, You just took Adam The Woo's 1st place spot... Congrats Jordan!
@Julie Frazier He mentioned it during one of his visits there during an episode of Parts Unknown. He also showed the correct way to crack an egg cooking his breakfast there. He said never crack it on the counter edge because pieces of shell end up in your egg so instead crack it on a flat surface. :)
Sorry, it was The Layover, Los Angles! I would not feel cheated by life if I died in Chateau Marmont…” Bourdain said. “I love that hotel above all others.”
That was great meeting your friend Kevin, I enjoy his music alot. Love the old photos you find in these places. Well the Chateau Marmont is missing out, just baffles me why they would push away an opportunity to connect with people. Thanks again for an entertaining vlog.
The actual Zappa property that Lady Gaga now owns is at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Lookout Mountain.. The original cabin that Zappa lived in there burned down..
There seems to be some confusion over the formation of CSN and Y. I've heard stories that they did not form at Joni Mitchell's house but Mama Cass Elliott's house.
Laurel Canyon must have been an amazing enclave of so much musical and artistic talent back then. And it wasn't that expensive to live there either! So many great musicians and poets there then. And living next door to one another, too! The one band that I wish had gotten more attention were LOVE. (Arthur Lee and company). I've heard songs from their "Forever Changes" album, and they were so musically eclectic.
I USED TO HANG OUT AT CIRO'S IN THE MID TO LATE 60'S AS A TEENAGER. I SAW SONNY & CHER THERE & NUMEROUS OTHERS & DANCE ALL NIGHT LONG!! AT THAT TIME THE COVER WAS JUST 2 TO GET IN. BOY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!
"Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippy Dream". Jim Morison's father helped start the Vietnam war. So many "Hippy" musicians, who were secretly from extremely wealthy families, or Military Intelligence families. They had to derail the anti-war movement.
I missed it the 1st time, so i went back to the guy carrying the cross. i think he lives close by, because it's a big cross. Funny though, how we refer to places where 'famous' people lived, Los Angeles and Laurel Canyon in particular focal points. But mostly it's everyday life anyway, even for them, back then; and in largely mundane circumstance even now. Preferably noticing the experiences and places that welcome us to the everyday stuff that stands out as somehow exemplary of something we like to revisit frequently, even in the otherwise familiar neighborhood.
Chateau Marmont complained as soon as i took my first clip inside, so i probably wont go back.
Thanks for trying to find the GP photo location. I think you must have been very close. Can't wait for more Gram info you mentioned a few weeks back..
hulaguitar There is a chance that the photo of Gram was taken in his room instead of the lobby and that is why Jordan couldn’t find it.
Bummer! I guess they get alot of people wanting to record in their hotel considering the history.
My initial reaction to the footage of inside Marmont was, "how did he get away with that" because just on their reputation alone and their overboard discretion to the privacy of their guest gave me a sense that they would be displaying an "attitude" that you would not be happy with.
yes, same! Great clip though
Laurel Canyon is just gorgeous. I never get tired of stories from the 60s and 70s in LA. Glad you introduced us to Kevin's bands through the vlog!
My favorite 70’s artist, writer , icon. Thanks again. ❤️🙂

You can still get the vibe there big time but you need to know where to go. I was lucky enough to be born in 1960 and lived in the area.
Love Joni & Crosby Stills Nash & then Young. Oh to be a fly on the wall during one of those jam sessions... Our House is my husband's and my song ❤️ Thank you, Jordan
Our house is my absolute favorite song!
I agree with you! It was totally cool and awesome taking this tour!
No one trying to make friends jealous on social media , or concerned with: Who got more Likes !!!

Graham wrote "Our House", he was at the piano while Joni picked flowers for the vase she bought that day.
I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan, so I especially love this vlog. Oh, and hello, friends!
when I was a kid I used to watch a show on TV called 77 Sunset strip, Loved Cookie and his t-bird
Iconic show for sure.
the picture of Crosby and Nash looking at one another while taking a drink is when they found out Mama Cass died.
Love Joni. Those canyon homes are so quaint. Thanks.
Yes quaint, and right on top of each other. Was all over the canyon and valley. Always felt rushed.....traffic mostly. It gets worse after sunset.
Robin Luck.. traffic in Laurel Canyon is horrible in the mornings and evenings. That’s why I changed my eye doctor from Beverly Hills to closer to the Valley area. But the history is beautiful in the canyons on how they got inspired with their music.

Thoroughly enjoyed strolling with you guys 🤓 and taking in some very cool history ✋🏻👍🏻💌🇬🇧
Loved seeing Joni Mitchell’s house. Thanks!👍
how wonderful to see a face of your friends, and music. i miss you! been so busy in this crazy time. so I am going back thru old bloggs. This one was such a treat. love ya Jordon
Great Laurel Canyon video.
Loved the Joni Mitchell part.
Such an interesting place with so much history.
Please do more on Laurel Canyon.
Thank you soooo much for this one! I've long been fascinated by the stories of Laurel Canyon. Great Video!
I love the ambiance of Laurel Canyon. It's no wonder the great songwriters flocked there and you capture it through your camera. Since I will most likely never to get there to see it in person, Thank you so much Jordan

I had a drink at HMS Bounty the first time I went to the Comedy Store in 2011
Thank you Jordan the Lion for showing that!
Thanks for the referral to the book. I'll put on my library list.
Extremely interesting book! I've got to re-read that one - been a few years.
That changed my entire outlook on the ‘60’s and ‘70’s scene. I kind of feel now like a kid who finds out that Santa isn’t real. An overwhelming disappointment followed up with deep skepticism and I guess no longer seeing through a glass darkly.
From One review of that book: " OMG He Plays Fast and Loose With The Facts." What more do ya need to know?

Great job! I love Joni, and every performer from the canyon from the day. That’s my generation of music. As an artist I have always admired Joni’s artwork. Nice to see the history. Thanks!
Wasn’t The House Of Blues where Phil Spector picked up Ms Clarkson on that fatal night?
RACHEL DRAGONFLY 8420 sunset strip now running as Wolfgang puck a restaurant for $50 bowls of soup !
Loved it. Changes all the time. Great vlog, Jordan
I love Joni Mitchell.
Best video in the past few months...... it shows youre a gracious host and kind person, You just took Adam The Woo's 1st place spot... Congrats Jordan!
I have that original album from back when.....i still listen to it
Awesome, Jordan Lion-person. You and your vlog saved me a tourist trip to the west coast. (And the accompanying carbon footprint.)
Thanks! Glad to see that! Actually,
CSN formed at Moma Cass's house! Thanks, never saw this house!
Great video! I don't know how I miss this one.
Glad the Comedy Store is still there.
It was a different world back then. Kind of miss it. I'm thankful I lived through it. A fun vlog!!
Peace to you!!
So great to see Joni's house and Laurel Canyon.
I had sooooooo many great times at that HOUSE OF BLUES BACK IN THE 90'S😥❤❤👍👍👍😎
amazing, I'm staying in laurel canyon in August,...cannot wait! going to visit all of these houses
You make LA look magical, Jordan.
Love and miss you Jorden, glad I am back!
Iove laurel canyon, wish I could live there .
Thanks this was great! Loved the houses and country store, Joni's house. Love street
Chateau Marmont is awesome and Anthony Bourdain's favorite hotel. :)
Dakota Fleming Awesome! I would love to see the inside when we go back out there! :-D
Perfect solution for insomnia
Thanks Jordan
i hope one day to make it down there to check out the canyon, morrisons place, the store, joni's house. thanks for the video!
This is amazing. I’ve always loved the pictures of Joni in that house and those albums. I’d heard the house burned down. I’m glad to hear it hadn’t.
Thank you for posting this video.
That was great meeting your friend Kevin, I enjoy his music alot. Love the old photos you find in these places. Well the Chateau Marmont is missing out, just baffles me why they would push away an opportunity to connect with people. Thanks again for an entertaining vlog.
What is his band called do you know?
Love the history. Thanks Jordan. Belinda
Great history Jordan!! Much love to you and Jah ❤
That was nice you took your friends for a tour. I liked it too.
LOVED!!! This Vlog!!!!.. Took me Back To 'Good Times'.. Thank You!!!!
What a fun video!! Love all those homes out there. Beautiful sights to see!
The actual Zappa property that Lady Gaga now owns is at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Lookout Mountain.. The original cabin that Zappa lived in there burned down..
Don't mean to be a bother....love your adventures and vids..:)
Thanks so much! Parts of LA I never would have seen when I lived there.
There seems to be some confusion over the formation of CSN and Y. I've heard stories that they did not form at Joni Mitchell's house but Mama Cass Elliott's house.
Right.
thomas Romano no... it was in jonis living room. read "shakey" - a book on neil young.
Stills says it was Eliots house, but Nash & Crosby insist it was at Mitchell's.
I think it depends on differences in words met and played..I read they met at Cass Elliots and played for the first time together at Joni's
Jonie mitchell one of my fellow cdns.love her.
Great tune at the beginning!
So interesting! I’d always thought this house burned down. I’m so glad it didn’t.
Great video! Thanks👍😁❤
Awesome dude. laurel canyon
Morning Jordan, have a great day!
Great tour and great content, as usual. Thanks so much.😎❤️
Cool trivia. You have great knowledge on the past of your area.
