Wow Tom wrote this prior to 1972, I can't imagine what he would write now, this infectious cowardice is now rampant around the world. "Live and let die", is alive and well. I love this song because it soften my heart then and its been working on me ever since. Tom wrote a few songs that changed me, "Hang them all " "One hundred children"," The man who hated freckles" and "I want to see the parade" all changed me from the hard hearted mean SOB I was into what I am now. Thank you Tom T Hall.
Heard this song first time today. I mistook it for a new tune. Further research proved it to be 1972. Whoa too too true for any decade! Long live Tom T Hall!!
Like some of you, I thought this song was long lost. I've tried looking all over where music is sold by download or whatever, and nothing. Two days ago I searched you tube and here it is, finally found it. BTW I just checked Amazon again and still nothing FYI. Maybe the lyrics are to politically and socially dangerous for us free and open 1st amendment Americans to be able to listen to them. Or perhaps there lies somewhere those powers to be who are much more wise than the rest of us conjured ways to keep this song and others from being heard. That being said, those of us of former military, i.e. veterans, s maybe didn't do enough to totally protect and safeguard the Constitution allowing such possible censorship. I know I'm blowing off to an extreme here, I'm just expressing a thought and there are many more examples where this may apply. Just a FYI, try searching you tube for the same song title with Pat Moriarty as the artist for an Irish version. Stay Free
My Father loved Tom T. Hall and his music. He had this record. He died in 2004. Greetings from Denmark ❤❤❤
This song is more relevant to what is happening in today's society than ever before. The promise has been broken and the dreaming is fast fading.
That song sure fits today 👌 A GREAT Singer and GREAT Song Thank you Tom T Hall👏👍

On the other forms of RUclips I do find this song. I figured the big club censure this song.
As George Carlin said , it’s called the great American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it !
