I got a VF8 Plus about a month ago and I love it. It’s not without its quirks and frustrations, but it’s very nice to drive overall. I don’t think I’d ever have bought one (or any electric vehicle) if 1: it wasn’t on a ridiculously well priced lease, where not only the monthly payment is attractive, but the cap cost and residual are WAY less expensive than competitors. I can’t see myself not buying it at lease end if not before. 2: I couldn’t fast charge at home and didn’t already own ice vehicles for road trips. I don’t plan on ever taking this on a road trip, but I drive at least 95% of the time around socal, and it works fine for that. I realise this is not the use case for everybody and it would be nice to have convenient charging options. Big Francie fan, I pretty much only watch your videos (on this channel). ✌🏽
Great idea to include your dad in the podcast. His opinions about your VF8 is very real. As an owner of this EV the past 14 months, I really appreciated his honest feedback. I look forward for your next videos with your dad and the VF8 experience.
I have been charging at home using my 240V/30A circuit for the past 13 months without any problem whereas all the other VF8 owners with 50A circuit have been doing the same thing at their homes just fine. To say that the VF8 can only charge at lower current is NOT correct. The portable charger that comes with the car, however, prefers at most 80% of your home circuits specs so for a 30A circuit, you should not set your current on the VF8 to more than 24A.
Since this is a business, it may have 208 Volts available at the outlet. This may not be compatible with the portable Vinfast EVSE. There is no way for the charging equipment to know the maximum current output, in amps, of the outlet since that would be rated by the size of the wire and its insulation.
Input is nominal either 120 ac or 240 ac the out is max limited by EVSE connector. Max circuit required for plug in for 240 vac is 50 amp and output max is 40 amp to car. You may have a setting incorrect or wiring issue in the building wiring. Will need to read faults listing for EVSE.
Francine here where I live in Scotland in the local town of Stirling we have huge potholes in the road AND kerbside charging for those who don’t have the ability to have a home charger - I’m lucky, I have a driveway, solar and a home charger. The small village I live in also has 2 x 7.4kW public charging posts in the car park but they are ridiculously expensive to use but they are both in use all night most nights.
I did the NC500 (plus some) in 2022 and was impressed with the charging even along that route! Sounds like some improvement is needed but you all are off to a solid start
The point is that the yellow signal has nothing to do with the amperage available on the plug. The charger has no idea what amperage is available. it is only aware of the voltage as well as the grounding situation of the Nema 1450. if I had a voltmeter there, I could find out what is wrong with the way that that plug is wired but sadly I live in California.
We have a lot of chargers at work (they’re installing 400 Chargepoint level 2 chargers… it’s a college campus.) but you have to pay to use them ($1 per hour) and there’s a 4 hour limit, so have to move it partway through the workday. 13:33
Funny, every time I hear someone say they charge at work it always seems to be a college. I’ve suggested several times at my work, through employee surveys to get a half dozen L2 chargers with no success.
Why doesn’t Francie get a Tesla to J1772 plug and use the charger at dads office? This makes as much sense as my co worker that bought a Tesla then charged it at the library rather than get a NEMA 14L50 put in his garage.
LOL. A lifelong Tesla driver accustomed to using 99.96% reliable Superchargers now trying CCS for the first time. What could go wrong? I loved her line "they're 50% down a 100% of the times."😂
This is one reason why I bought 240V charger with 10A/16A/24A/32A output settings built in, but mostly because I have a Bolt that 240v amp setting can't be adjusted.
Agreed. I have a level 2 charger that is software adjustable for charge output (amperage) and it allows accommodating different locations based on their ability.
You know I just can't believe we have to wait almost two more years for so many more EVS to come out for one thing and also have the new Tesla Port added inside that car

@19:00 That is just insane Francie. I'm in my town of maybe 7-8k people we got 5-6 locations, depending on definition, with a total of 34 CCS2 stalls + 12 Tesla V2 stalls open for all. 12 of them are less than 100kW though.
@@guccisasha Not really. The sites are usually less than 50% occupied except maybe weekends or typical vacation/holiday times. A bit of queue on the 12 stall Tesla site during Easter this year. Most importantly I've seen 3 out of service chargers over the past year across all locations.
If this is the EVSE supplied by Vinfast, it should pull the max amps the car can receive, no more. Maybe the adapter (120 vs 240 v plug adapters) weren’t pushed in completely. Otherwise, the outlet might not have correct grounding.

The LVL2 EVSE doesn't force feed the current, it's a supply. The LVL2 EVSE can be able to supply 50A, and if the car can only take 32A, the car will only take that 32A because it's the load, and the load determines the current that it will take. There was something else that the Vinfast didn't like with the LVL2, most likely the communication.
Sorry dad, your Vinfast charging problem could not be caused by too much current available at receptacle. I think the Tesla Wall Connector only requires wires L1, L2, & ground. Your Vinfast EVSE may require these 3 wires plus Common, often a white wire.
