I love how Lucy’s entire character design is basically a love letter to iconic Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell franchise. From outfits to hair cut with femme fatale personality, I can see Major would look exactly like Lucy if GitS had modern aesthetics with vibrant colors. 10/10 character design from Yoshinari Yoh
They even homage a bit of imagery in ep4, from her sitting at her apartment window and the scene with wires in her back. A more general reference is the thought to text, which isn't in the Cyberpunk 2077 game.

Man I don't know what it is about it, but that moment David is behind Lucy and she does the little hand beckoning motion to him just gets me everytime. It's such a cute moment.
The guy here is a black guy with white hair, while the guy from the first episode is a blonde, white guy who VERY MUCH was killed. He got his head blasted off with a shotgun. That's how Gloria was able to remove the Sandy for David to end up with it, and how Kurosaki got the BD scroll so that Doc could give one to David to push. Not sure why Caleb was so sure it's the same guy...

Oh, man... I can't remember how many times I've listened to "Let you down" and "I want to stay at you house", the songs for the ED and insert song for this episode, respectively, after watching this show. Deserved award win of AOTY by Crunchyroll. This show also gets progressively better and better. Can't wait for the discussions. It's a cyberpunk story after all.
David didn't have any implants before the Sandevistan beyond the basic chat implants and chip sockets that everybody has. He says to Doc "I've never heard of one implant doing that", implying he doesn't have any others
@AverageCapybaraFan You're supposed to cringe watching the sexual scenes early on. If you liked them, then you missed the point of the show. It is very clearly established that Rudy wasn't a good person, and the entire point is him growing as a person and establishing normal connections.

That stretcher scene is something I find incredibly alluring. It has this feeling of thrill like you die at any second but you can picture yourself as David feeling safe amidst that rush. She knows what she is doing, nothing will happen. Then you see how much fun she has while also being beautiful in her own right.
The cyberpunks are here! This is where the story kicks off and doesn't touch the brakes until the end. Also best girl is finally here and it's not Lucy!
6-8 Sandevistan uses; and we see 7 activations of it. This means that David was able to get from Corporate Plaza, to Santo Domingo, and up into his apartment in only 1 or 2 uses. In game this is about a quarter of the city's length .
If you're watching this for the 1st time, or not, and still didn't understand some stuff on the future of the show about the tech, one important detail we learn this episode are imuno-blockers. They're used because the body rejects the implant, because it's not made specifically for your body, they're mass produced. With imuno-blockers, everybody can use implants. ====SPOILERS==== That's important to know so you don't be clueless in the future like 90% of people that reacted to this show and started questioning a certain specific "specially" strong character. That character doesn't even need ANY imuno-blockers, because the tech is made specially for him, so no rejection from the body. It's also done by corpo docs, not street ripperdocs. It's CYBERPUNK GENRE PEOPLE. That's all. If anyone sees this and is watching the show, and didn't really get some of this until now, well, this is for you.
This makes me wonder if people get sick more easily there or not. If you're constantly nerfing your immune system to use implants, you're bound to get sick, aren't you?

Said character is a one in a billion anomaly. Im not sure how much it has to do with specifically his tech and how much is just his attitude and mental image. Smasher is full borg, only thing left is his brain, if even that. It means theres no body left to fight the cyberware so no meds needed. Only issue would be the expected insane load on his brain. But smasher is just that guy.

I absolutely adore this show. It’s visually stunning, the cast of characters is super diverse and the relationships between all of them feel natural and deep. It’s so so good.

If anyone in the "hospital" takes note that she only has the boy and noone else, it's likely much grimmer than the bleak "she dead, sign the forms and receive the canned ashes" There was an episode or two about donor organs in Ghost in the Shell. It's also in plots of the Deus Ex series. Having no knowledge, beyond the Anime, about Cyberpunk 20xx, I'd guess it's in there too.
How the heck do the subtitles manage to mistranslate from English? "I'll buy it" instead of "I'll bite" and "You can't," instead of "You gonked?". "Pig Socket" for "picksocket" is pretty egregious... and that's just in the first couple minutes.
Does anyone know why they went with the English dub for this anime? They usually go with subs so I'm curious why they made an exception for this anime in particular.
This is one of a few shows that gives you a good reason to watch the “dub”. (IIRC they were simultaneously recorded and released so neither is the 'original') First, the production was done with a lot of help from CDPR, who made the 2077 game, and the original writers of the tabletop game. This means there’s a lot of slang that doesn’t translate well into Japanese. Second, it’s set in a futuristic America, so realistically the characters would be speaking English. Third, the subtitling is not great. I don’t know if it’s been improved since release but at the time it was terrible, and Netflix doesn’t always go back to fix stuff. Finally, the dub’s just good. It’s like Fullmetal Alchemist: some people don’t like it, but it’s mostly a matter of taste.
If you've played the game there are some voices from the game in the show as well if you watch the Dub. I'm usually a sub man here, but considering the context the Japanese version has all the same issues that the english dub does in most anime.
