Dang this is brutal. I love how she just banged his neck/chin into the rock repeatedly. It really made it seem more like an accident-like she only meant to scare or hurt him, but in her rage she took it too far.

I agree, I prefer this over the: "hehe neck bite go brrr" is a bit overused, this is a much cooler depiction of Ashfur's death imo.
Same, honestly. Like, it really showed that all of her anger and trauma started pouring out through every blow.

So great to see the actual killing of Ashfur not just being a simple bite to the neck. This shows so much more emotions, and really shows off the anger she had towards him. The brutality of the actual kill and her emotions towards it was so great!! Especially the end where she realizes what she just did! Amazing job!
The way you said "the actual killing of Ashfur" implies this is how it happend in the books. I agree it s way more intense this way but in the books it WAS just a simple bite to the neck

@@printiiisor i mean, it wasnt exactly a simple bite to the neck, i read whatever book ashfur dies in a little ago, and i remember reading that there were teeth marks hidden underneath his fur in his neck (or something like that), and his clanmates had believed he drowned.

I just re-read that part last night and they thought he'd drowned because his wounds were so minimal, until leafpool found it on accident. It was described as "a thin clean slice to the neck, like how a highly skilled warrior would kill it's prey"
She then licked his fur back over it for the vigil and it went fully unnoticed by everyone

this is INCREDIBLE! probably the best depiction of ashfur's death i've ever seen. i've always found it hard to believe that he went down without much of a fight. it's so brutal and chilling and you can really feel hollyleaf's hate for him. this is perfect in every single way and i love it
Especially since he was around to fight in the battle with Bloodclan and helped kill Bone. I can't imagine that, unless she caught him so off-guard that he died immediately before he had a chance to react, he would've gone down easy. If I remember right as well, the books mentioned that the reason Leafpool knew it was Hollyleaf who did it was bc there were small tufts of her fur caught in his claws, so he definitely had a chance to get a couple of blows in, which no one apparently noticed the marks of on Holly

I've always imagined that Ashfur's death was by sneak attack. With Hollyleaf's black fur, she could have blended into shadows and bushes extremely easily, perfect for a quick sneak attack and kill, probably before Ashfur even knew what was going on. I've never seen a video interpreting it as a chase, with her bashing his head in. AMAZING

I adore when she is killing ashfur. The viewer can sense this pent up rage is driving her. Killing him by brute force all the while crying. Hollys Expression after she realizes what she had done is beautiful. She looks shocked by her actions and looks so heartbreakingly regretful. Personnaly it shows how young she is and how emotionally scarred she was from the fire. This is so brilliantly drawn💕😤

Most animations of this scene involve a fairly quick bite to ashfur's neck, and I LOVE the utter brutality of this interpretation
Revisting this animation years later fills me with a greater love for the artistic choices made, like your compositions and colour choices to this day are incredibly strong. I really adore the juxtapostion of the lyrics "Can't kiss the girls, can't f-ck the young ones"+flashbacks to a younger hollyleaf+the brutal violence she inflicting on him. It really adds a layer of horror and implied abuse not present in the original books that is incredibly impactful.
Tbh, I like this depiction of Ashfur’s death better than all the old ones. It just makes it feel more realistic in a sense where hollyleaf killed him out of impulsive rage then out of edginess. It just makes her feel more real.
man, hollyleaf pounding ashfur's head against the rocks was so intense!! and the shot of ashfur's face locked into this kind of almost-wail??? absolutely haunting, I love it
I love this! It makes a lot more sense than the commonly depicted Holly killing him from behind because it misses the whole part where Ashfur fought back and that’s how he had her fur in his claws. The timing is great and the intensity really suits, great choice of music
ok real shit, i've never actually been in the warriors fandom (though i always love engaging in the fan content as much as i can), nor read the books. its hard for me to kinda get a feel of the characters and their emotions, no matter how much i know abt their backstories. the whole scenario with ashfur and everyone involved with him, i understand - but out of all the content ive watched, ive never seen hollyleaf suddenly _snap_ this hard, rather than the murder being premeditated. the flashbacks really put her trauma to light, especially the scene to where she regresses into a kit from the terror that ashfur inflicted on her young mind. her pain and rage is incredibly raw and personal. you drew her emotions so beautifully in each scenario (and i love the look of "something isnt right" at 0:20, which, woop there it is). i love the little details, the way she stared at the mutilated corpse beneath her, and had to literally shake that sweltering guilt out of her body at the end as she left ashfur's body on the stones.
and as much as anyone could hate ashfur for the shit he did (valid tho), that was a genuinely horrifying situation for him to be in. shockingly, i even felt sympathy for him too, because so many individuals are the same way when they're faced towards a death they never truly could've prepped for. the primal fear that was shown in his eyes at the face of death - at the face of his obsession's child that he himself would've willingly let die, was no longer at her mercy... he wasn't getting a second chance. what a horrifying way to leave your body. the jaw dislocated, and what i assume to be shock or unconsciousness in his eyes when he was slammed into the rocks again.
this MV is a crime of pure passion and hate that i could feel in my bones, and the song's low hums and violent shouts really set the mood, as well as ashfur's body, barren of soul in the lake at the end. ashfur may have went to starclan canonically, but the way his body was just... left there (not to mention squirrelflight would eventually see the state he's in). like how one person commented how it seemed like starclan was silently judging the situation from below, i feel like this would be a personal rejection from starclan for both of them. i can only imagine the fear these two felt in both their scenarios. i can never truly imagine what it's like, thank god. this was genuinely perfect, and i definitely wouldnt mind seeing this fully animated - but it is truly beautiful the way it is too. top-tier, underrated work.

The poses, the art, your anatomy? Everything is god tier! This just makes my jaw drop! And the way you interpreted Ashfur’s death is honestly my favorite! I get frustrated because most people interpret it as “Hollyleaf ambushed Ashfur and killed him in cold blood with a slit across his throat” and I understand how people remember it that way because it’s easy to remember! The way you made Holly Chase Ashfur Down, and then slam his head against the rocks is exactly how I saw it as! Holly did mention that the killing part was an accident, and it really depends on if you believe that or not. I could see how, in a rage, she could pummel his head down on the rocks so much that it kills them. This just gave me chills at how accurate you were! This is possibly my most favorite animatic of Hollyleaf ever! Wow!
The only wound he had was indeed a slit across his throat. It's canon.
this gave me chills,, just, the way she killed him, and how he probably didn't die quickly and within the first blow. He was still alive, but she killed him like she was smashing a bug, and she was so angry that when she hit him the first time and realized how fatal that blow could be. I actually feel her disgust and shock at brutally murdering someone. Also, this artstyle is godly and the thing is so smooth and consistent, i love it.

Holyyyy shit this is incredible - I especially love that last lingering shot of the stars. Really gave me a feeling of StarClan being in silent disbelief of Holly's actions...
At the end I swear there was one little dim star flickering in and out towards the middle, as if that’s when Ashfur was on trial to go into StarClan.

Having Ashfur as my favourite character, this is hard for me to watch. But I think that’s what makes this so good - it genuinely makes me uncomfortable and upset. That just shows how powerful both your storytelling and expressions are! Excellent work! 😄
It’s great to see other people having Ashfur as their favorite character as well. Many people hate him, though I believe his character was so complex and emotional that it was so captivating to dig into!

I love this. You really captured this scene perfectly. I think most people like to portray Hollyleaf's murder of Ashfur as if she were a serial killer - someone that acted in a cold and calculated fashion. But with her repeatedly bashing the shit out of his head on the rocks, completely out of control, shows the very emotional turmoil she was going through. Kinda like how stabbings IRL are considered "crimes of passion," this would be the cat equivalent lol. Excellent job!! :D
Little headcanon: bramblefake throws squilf off the the high rock in the same way that holly throws ashfur into the air. What if that’s where he learned that fighting move? He tries to kill squilf in the same way that her daughter killed him

This is such a uniquely emotional depiction of Hollyleaf taking down Ashfur; from what I remember, the books tried to make it seem cold and methodical, but her slipping into a senseless rage and getting carried away seems so much more realistic and tragic? Also love the mega-fling of Ashfur into the river lol

You did this video with these feelings, that everyone can fell: terrible death of Ashfur, Hollyleaf's fear at the fire, and her rage now, in the running. I think nobody in warrior cats animating can't runk with you to the sensibility and dinamic in your art. At least, your animatic is so amazing what towers above all others.

The erins really missed an opportunity w making Lionblaze Ashfur’s apprentice instead of Hollyleaf IMO
Like.... Lionblaze had almost no chemistry w his mentor. I honestly can’t remember a single interaction they had, and Lionblaze (to my memory) has no reaction to Ashfur flying off the handle at all. It would have been so much more suspenseful and made this twist so much better if Hollyleaf had been his apprentice instead.
What about when Lionpaw and Ashfur had a very brutal fight where they both beat the crap out of eachother?
Ill stand by the idea Ashfield should've been Holly leaf mentor. It would make more sense in this retrospect. Imagine it. She finds out her parents aren't her parents, she's a product of a broken code and her mentor literally tries to kill her and her family. That's heart wrenching and makes more sense for her to go manic
