- I can sense the burning question: "this all looks very scribbly, did you draw this with your fingers, or something??" Yes. I did. Almost every frame of this bad boy was drawn with my fingers on my laptop screen in MS Paint because I was away from home without my art supplies. Hey, when inspiration strikes, you gotta make do with what you've got. The song used is "The Wolf" by Fever Ray (which instantly gave me Holly vibes, with all its fire references and general angst).
Anyway, this is a pretty AU-y Hollyleaf PMV. (What? Everyone else is making AUs. I thought I'd jump on the train.) A lot of little things are changed, but what's most pressing is that Hollyleaf has a power! The ability to make anyone else beleive what she says, as long as she believes it herself. The video centers around Hollyleaf struggling with her mixed ancestry after the Fire Scene (during which Squirrelflight killed Ashfur, not Hollyleaf later on, because, c'mon, she would've kicked his butt into next week). She loses all faith in Starclan, seeing her place in the prophecy as a cruel joke, considering that she thinks she's so unworthy. She's then confronted by Sol, who convinces her to use her power against Starclan (for some complex plot reasons I won't get into here), which she does -- she goes to Windclan and uses her abilities to force them (and herself) to lose hope in them. She finds herself broken and angry, not knowing what to do, before she ends up traveling to the Moonpool (in my version, an old well!) to see Starclan herself. When she meets them, she's overcome with emotion, realizing that it's not some cold, unfeeling force, but a group made of her old friends who are there to help her (Starclan is a bit more, uh, benevolent in this AU). She sees an old friend of hers, Half Moon (Hollyleaf got the "traveling to the past" plot in this version, not Jayfeather, since he already has the Starclan stuff), and returns to the real world feeling horrible about her actions and wanting to fix things. She worries that her family will never forgive the way she acted... But they do anyway. A fairly happy ending! Of course, then the Great Battle goes down, so... Things get progressively more complicated. But that's a story for another description!
For those curious, the cats shown are (in chronological order, left to right): Hollyleaf, Lionblaze and Jayfeather (most of them, anyway), Ashfur, Squirrelflight, Brambleclaw, Leafpool, Crowfeather, some Starclan cats, itty-bitty Sol who's real hard to see, Halfmoon, Mousepaw, Yellowfang, and Squirrelflight, as well as some other background cats, and then Cinderheart with Holly's family in the last scene.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun on this one! Hollyleaf has always been one of my favorite characters, even as a little kid, so it was great to explore her more in this AU and the animation. I went with my weird color palettes, of course, using those dark indigos for the forest, light greens for Starclan, red for the fire scene, and electric greens for Holly's rage. Hollyleaf herself is the only thing that doesn't change color -- except in the fire and when she's using her power (as those are the two points where she most loses her sense of self). It was also kind of a fun challenge to have to draw it all with my fingers, though it was sort of nice to be able to say "ehh, good enough" and move onto the next frame even if the previous one was more than a little scribbly. It means that I was able to make the longest PMV I've ever put together! This thing is a monster by my standards. It wasn't even supposed to be this long -- I kept hitting the endpoint that I was shooting for and going "well, there's still more I want to tell, and I'm not tired of animating yet! Let's keep going." And so I did. A lot of my art seems to be pretty dependent on my whims, but hey, I can't complain here, I guess.

I have to say, I still absolutely love Hollyleaf's power in this AU. It has the perfect limitations of her having to believe what she's saying, meaning she can't just force people to think whatever she wants. Very well thought up.
also starclan really has been so bluntly evil in canon that we need to make AUs where they're actually good and that's a bit frightening

1:14 Considering Hollyleaf's power in this AU, I feel like she could've actually killed Leafpool if she wanted to. In the book, she said that Leafpool should eat the berries since she deserved to die. Of course, she changed her mind quickly, but if she'd really meant it here, even if it was just a "heat of the moment" thing, Leafpool quite literally would have no choice but to do it... Just an interesting thought.
this perfectly portrays how furious holly was when she discovered the truth in the big fire scene, maybe even overdoing it a little which makes it even better

(I have an AU where Squirrelflight is possessed by Rage Incarnate. And that 1:01 picture of Holly's terror face and Squirrelight's look of horror right after that you did, made me think of another AU where Hollyleaf inherits it, and Squirrelflight is terrified because she knows what'll happen to her daughter. Hmm....)

Everytime I watched this, each expression made me flinch away and make me sob, which is excruciatingly rare. Now, many people do not like that Hollyleaf killed ashfur and then turned around and did what he did. Now, here is a long explanation on why she did it. She has always adored the warrior code, because of the prophecy. If starclan believed in her, then she thought it was for the code. When Squirrelflight came out that her whole life was a *lie* she was outraged. She felt if Ashfur told the secret, her life would be over, so she killed him. Later in the seasons, the secret began to gnaw her, tear through her flesh. She couldn't keep her secret anymore. In these sacred moments of her life she was always in agonizing pain, she literally didn't stuff the deathberries into her mother's face, she said that she *Should* eat them because she is a horrible mother who shouldn't deserve to live anymore. I adore Hollyleaf with every fiber, because she is unique.
I keep coming back to this and forgetting this was drawn by fingers... Like... All the colors, the composition, the shapes.. It's so incredible and to be able to pull of something so clean without a pen is quite remarkable. Hands-down one of the best things to come out of Warriors for me :')

i could literally write an essay on why this is the best hollyleaf video ive ever seen. the lyrics, the designs, the colors, perspectives, expressions....it all comes together for the most accurate portrayal of hollyleaf's mental state over time ive ever seen. shes my favorite fictional character of all time, im so happy to see someone do her justice 😭🖤🖤
ive commented before but oh my GOD. every single frame of this evokes such visually raw emotion in both expressions and colors. The frame at 1:38 alone sells this for me. The mania? The anguish? AUGh I'm gushing like an English teacher and I'm sorry but holy christ i am enraptured by this
I'm rewatching this for 11th time, maybe, and I'm still impressed. this is stunning - from color choices to visuals. the expressions, the idea of an au itself and a song choice... GOD I CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LIKE IT. THIS IS EXCELLENT.! it gives you shakes when you see those electric-green coloured parts when Holly uses her power and everything become glitchy and "broken", just as Hollyleaf in this moment - broken with her own thoughts, her whole life and unwanted truth that was spoken to her. also, Holly who has the power to convince anyone to believe her words? FINALLY SOME GOOD IDEA JESUS. this work is so much underrated, I wish it has MUCH more views than it has now. also a HUGe respect to you, learnin the fact you did it all with your fingers only! this is a hard work and it's greatly appreciated, and the result is truly amazing. I agree - Hollyleaf is a such wasted potential character, she deserves the attention and love she gets, and it's seen in this PMV! it would be much better if authors would write her like you did in this AU. again - you did such a great work, this is a god tier PMV!

Y’know with au’s having holly being the third cat and dove being the fourth I would love the idea of:
Fire confronts Tiger1 and they are about to fight when dove comes tumbling in and tiger1 is just like “get out of here kit” but she absolutely destroys him in a short battle and like his response is “what? No I was supposed to fight Firestar.” Cause if she was the fourth cat I feel like she should be the one to kill tiger1 like fire did
It always made me super disappointed how Hollyleaf was totally wasted in terms of the prophecy. The way your AU brought her potential to life is beyond astounding, your emphasis on her emotion has me tearing up. I'm blown away you made this with your fingers, that's actually phenomenal! OHMYGOSH this is absolutely fantastic! :0 Your use of color and expressions and the fact that you somehow did this with your finger in ms paint??? my dude you are criminally underrated I’m-
I know I'm a bit late to the comment party, but I absolutely love the way that after the peak, Hollyleaf is left in a barren, rocky, almost wasteland like setting - with smoke seeping from the cracked rocks beneath her. Almost as if she just had an explosion of power. And then gazes back at her reflection with this face of defeat and loss, that she knows the truth and everything she knows she should believe is gone. Not only that, but as the smoke peels away you see the tone shift from the greens of her mania to the reality of a monotone world controlled by Starclan and she's drawn to the Moonpool. It's consumed her and you can tell.
Truly one of my favourite warriors PMVs though. I'm always thoroughly impressed by what this community continues to create
i dont usually feel much while watching pmvs and stuff like this (other than literal excitement bc of how good the art is) but the thing is, this pmv is so beautifully done, so inspiring, and so emotional that i can almost taste the rage and sadness hollyleaf feels throughout all of this, ESPECIALLY 1:35 through 1:52

I've just realized that hollyleaf kinda has human teeth and not really much so cat teeth??? I'm not sure if thats intentional or just your style but it gives this a really unsettling feeling and I LOVE it. Kinda matches the craziness of the music
In all honesty, it was totally unintentional! I'm more used to drawing humans, and due to that and also given how quickly this was made, I ended up simplifying her teeth into vague blocks, which gave them that weird "sharp but also kind of too human for cat teeth" look. I'm super glad that everyone seems to like it so much, though! : D
I really just wanted to comment to tell you just how much I adore this PMV, it's genuinely one of my favorites in a very long time. The power you gave her is PERFECT and lines up so well with her character, the usage of the color palette is brilliant and I'm just completely and utterly _stunned_ by the expressions in this!!! And I LOVE. LOVE how you signified when she was using her powers. I could gush about that alone!! This is so well done and I've watched it dozens of times already ;O; Thank you for making this!!

I'm glad you like it! : ) The glitching effect is an Paint trick -- if you select something with the lasso tool and shake your hand around a whole lot while doing so, you get a selection with a super jagged edge. Then, just drag the selection up and down while holding shift, and it'll sort of paint the selection like it's a brush. It ends up making the selection look jagged and glitchy! I know I am 2 years late but holy crap....I don't regret watching this! I've seen this PMV in my recommended for a while now and when I watched it I was ASTONISHED. And the fact it was made in MS PAINT too??? LIKE WOW!!!!!! Your HollyLeaf design is beautiful and same for the backgrounds. I feel like you caught HollyLeaf's feelings really well. Its just so beautiful, Watching this over and over again makes me want to make a PMV of my own. Gahh I can't stop gushing about how beautiful it is!!!!!! I draw with my finger too so I know how difficult it is to draw with only a finger. AND THE TEETH ARE SO GGKHKHGK SO GOOD!!!! I'm a big fan of the big fangs on cats so this PMV has captured my heart. I hope you make more PMV's in the future.

I’ve been a big fan of this video and your Bluestar video for about two years now, but only now I’ve commented, so here goes.
I think your use of color in this video and the limited palettes are absolutely lovely. Each scene has a distinct feel that is intensified by the colors you choose. Hollyleaf having her normal warm-toned palette near the cool-toned Moonpool and in StarClan is a very clever and subtle way to show how out of place she feels in those areas. I think your shot composition and angles are great, especially when you take something as mundane as a character walking somewhere and use an interesting angle to make it more visually interesting. Your expressions are stunning, I really love the first low-angled one Holly makes while screaming at Squirrelflight during the fire scene. Your idea for Holly’s power is very creative and makes for great AU material.
Your Bluestar PMV is also outstanding, the symbolism in that video is absolutely off the charts. Each character being physically made of something in their name is a design choice I haven’t seen before. And Bluestar becoming more cracked and her fire dying down as the video goes on until she turns into solid obsidian is a neat way to show her slow descent into madness. I would write more about it but I’d have to rewatch it. In short thank you so much for making these videos, they’re some of the most creative and visually interesting Warriors PMVs I’ve ever seen!
