my wish i had a helmet crash was when i was riding a pre fab park, did a 3 to fackie, when i went to roll out my tires slid out and whiped my head against the concrete the same way morgan did back of the head and gave me a concussion
Hey Sebastian, did a little random scroll action to pick a winner and the helmet is yours. Can you please email me (ryan@ourbmx.com) your address and I'll send the helmet and some other goodies out asap? Thanks and congrats!
Mykel and Morgan are both also amazing humans! I feel lucky I got to grow up riding with them! More so Mykel around WI but Morgan would show up randomly lol
On a side not Willy if you ever are riding with Casey Ervin and his kid Brody do me a favor and get that guy to learn a few new tricks! Tell him Headset told him to! LMAO!
What a great watch and listen! Morgan is the man and a true advocate for BMX! His approach and style epitomize everything that is great about our sport!!!
Drew Bezanson's Uncontainable was one of the best things I think I ever got to see someone actualize and get done in BMX almost like Dane Searls giants of dirt! Man I miss those guys riding... RIP Dane.
Oh man when he mentioned sitting on the roll in chillin showing Dennis his knife with the helicopter and spotlight thing, that totally reminded me of a 2 am session at millennium park in Calgary in the mid 00’s back when the lights would stay on all night. The police hawks chopper was buzzing around looking for someone with a spotlight for a while and for whatever reason they spotlighted us on the roll in and focused on us for a bit, so I dropped in and did a full 1-2 min lap around that huge empty park with the police chopper spotlighting me the whole time lol good times 😂 Morgans part in drop the hammer is all time, such a good part and video. Love the podcast man, gotta get Jay Miron or Dave Osato on here sometime!
I'm the guy who recorded and edited the Big Air video ... I didn't know how to speak English, that's why I got the name of the video wrong. Morgan Wade is my hero, I would never doubt his potential.
There was a time where Eli Kravatz come near my hometown, and he was doing this show at one of the parks for a daycare. I showed up to watch also and I had my bike with me and he told me to ride with in the show cuz they weren't gonna ride for 45 mins straight. I remember doing a 2ft air on a small hip and all the kids were screaming. Never gonna forget that. : )
I brought my kids to one of these shows and we all got to meet Morgan and the crew. It was so much fun and I talked every rider and skaters ear off after the show. Really nice guy👍👍👍
Morgan has always been one of my favourite dudes to watch ride and seems like a fun guy to be around. Good listen for sure. I have dozens of “glad I was wearing a helmet” stories, but the biggest “wish I had a helmet” story is from 2007. I’d been riding like a year, and for whatever reason the good helmet practise from racing motocross never transferred over. I was trying a transfer line from a smaller box, up and over a larger box into a hipped landing. Basically a big 90° hip. Was hard to get speed for and was a massive stretch. I’d come close a couple of times so thought if I was able to get a bit more speed I’d have it. Clipped back wheel on the ledge going up then nosecased the landing. Went head first into the concrete flat bottom, knocked out and had a seizure. Spent a night in hospital being monitored. Been a full time helmet guy ever since
Damn, one of the best episodes I've listened to yet. I went through 2 helmets this past season. One of the wrecks, sat on the back tire of my DJ at the top of a lip and launched myself over the bars and over a 25ish ft table. Cleared all 25ft off my bike and landed basically in a superman position on the landing 😆
I saw him at The Quater Master event in the Uk. As I remember it he turned up late, straight off the plane,no practice, jet lagged and sent it on a 20ft dirt quarter.
Last time I was concussed, I was the ginny pig on a new double. We've been digging for about a week and the landing was first up. We finished the landing and started carving the lip a few days later. Over the weekend it rained so we went back to clean things up. The landing still looked amazing so we went to clean things up and go for it. I pedaled at the 6-foot beauty, hit the jump, and boosted it! The lip was perfect! Had a good amount of hang time, was lined up amazing and then I landed. My bike sunk about 2 feet into the landing and my whole body, including my face came down onto the bike. My forehead smacked the crossbar and I remember waking up with my friends surrounding me. The first words I heard were "I think we need to pack down the landing a bit more."
I love Morgan Wade, have a picture with him from the BMX Wolrds 2005 in Prague. We were his fanclub there and he threw for us bikeflip over the spine, almost pulled it! What a cool guy still to this day! :-)
"Wish I had a helmet was when I was at our local trails. I don't know what happened but I remember hitting the double and waking up a few feet from the landing. I was told I nose dived too much and went straight to my head which knocked me out. I haven't rode trails since...just one of those back of the mind cant get over feelings. "
I’m late posting this 🤣🤣😆 ridding with the R.L Osbourne at the old school reunion was ridding dirt and park all day… Hella tired towards the end I crashe broke my chest and radius 🦴 doctors though I poked a hole in splinee …man I wish I had a helmet s1 🤙🏻
i dont have an "i wish i had a helmet" as i always ride with one. my "good thing i had a helmet" story, as i'm a late bloomer/midlife bmx rider is, one time i was about to go out and ride not wearing one, my wife called me out and said "one day, you'd wish you had a helmet," so i decided to wear it. that day, i spun out and hit my head hard. good thing i had it.
Was trying a backwards rail, went to bail and caught my foot. SMOKED my head, definitely wish I would've had a helmet, haven't tried a backwards rail since.
I don’t know if this counts but I was wearing my Protec that I have ran since ‘95 and was dirt jumping in Monroe, WA with the NWC and Balt and it was my first time with dirt jumps in ten years but I trained behind my balt and on the third hit, I tagged a few inches short with the front wheel and landed straight to the face. Broke my orbital socket, skull fracture, displaced my collar bone 2cm and broke 4 ribs. Didn’t think I was hurt too bad so my buddy drive me to my parents, then I drove 5 hours to Spokane, then went to the hospital the next day! anyway, a new helmet is just as important!
About 7 years ago a friend and I were riding a local park. Nearing the end of the session we decided one last trick down the 7 stair. I unfortunately decided to go Mach 10 and 180 down the 7 stair and once that back tire hit the ground the bike stopped moving, and the whole park heard my head get decimated by the concrete. I don't really remember the whole thing, just bits and pieces. But that's definitely a time I wish I had a helmet, and it's definitely something that I'm still dealing with some of the effects til this day.
It was the end of a day of filming and we rolled up on this little rail that I wanted to crook. I double pegged it a couple times, went to hop on for the crook and got anti-hop on the downhill run up. I ended up missing my front peg and hitting my chest on the rail. It shot me forward and I hit my face/head on the ground. I was knocked out on impact and also nearly ripped my ear off. Thankfully I had a great group of friends with me who were able to get me cleaned up and to the hospital. I remember walking into the ER and the nurse asked me to put a mask on (this was during COVID). I didn't think anything of it since I was just unconscious, but my friend was mortified because I put the strap right in the huge opening in my ear/head. After spending what I ended up being 4 hours in the ER, I was told that the doctor didn't feel comfortable doing a procedure to fix my ear. So after talking with the nurses and staff, they somehow let my friends drive me 2 hours to another hospital closer to home where I went in for stitches. Definitely one that has me wishing I had a helmet on. Couple years later, I am much more diligent about wearing a helmet. Got a cool scar on my ear and picked up the nickname, Van Goghman from that crash. Good times.
1:24:14 Morgan knows what's up! Bring back the DVD! I know someone people still make them but overall any thought out time consuming videos should be put out on DVD at least in small batches so they don't disappear.
I tried to do a 180 tobargon off of the Huba going up the 7 stair at Irving skatepark in the dfw and landed backwheel… looped to whiplash no helmet was knocked out for 10 minutes and seized on the ground.
There was one time I went to a friend's house and rode his DIY quarter pipe and it had barely no deck and I went to go ride up it I spider bite the coping jumped down backwards on my feet and straight pendulum to my head without a helmet just a hat to break my fall.. put some ice on it had a hematoma and had to get stitches. Wish I had an s1 helmet that day!
Helmet comment. Spent too much time only 3ing smaller spines. Yanked one on a 6ft but pulled back like it was a mellower cooping to cooping and sprocket cased on the way back in, bike hung up and I went OTB to flat head first. Was KO’d woke up and knew what I did wrong so sent it again clean. But even though I got it clean it haunts me still.

I had a crash, I bunny hopped a steel trash can and the front tire clipped the can, flew over the bars and hit my forhead pretty hard, definitely wish I had a helmet then.
I wish I had a helmet, when I was 15 (1996 😢) sprocket cased the spin at Skate and Ride Bristol (UK) passed out multiple times and collapsed into the boobs of the owners girlfriend and ended up in hospital. Actually no, that was my first post mummy face in boobs, it was worth it.

Oh man. See, the problem is, I don't really remember my worst "wish I had a helmet" story. Lol I just remember I was learning how to ride a concrete spine with metal coping and a skatepark that was designed for skaters. Everything was super tight and quick. I remember waking up and getting kicked out of the skatepark by some local skater douche nozels. Lol
2012 smashed the back of my head off a rail. TBI. 2m in the hospital. I got up thought I was fine. Didn't realize my brain was bleeding and passed out minutes later. A couple years passed before I was back to normal
Talking about not knowing how to crash/fall... I saw the the QB of the dolphins is taking judo classes so he can learn how to fall without getting a concussion.
Wish I had a helmet trying to nose bonk over the ledge next to my pyramid straight over the ledge 5-6 ft straight to my face all the kids at my high school thought I was a savage for come to school the next day with double black eyes and a baseball sized lump over my left eye. I feel like these guys are hanging with a friend more than conducting an interview, and I prefer it so.
