    Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
    1. OSU offers TA/RA/GA positions, all of them are rare for MS students, specially in ECE, more opportunities available for CSE students.
    2. A TA (ECE) makes $2250/month pre tax or $1890/month after tax, and most of the tax is refunded after filing taxes. As for RA, they make similar amount of money, sometimes lesser than TA depending on department, there are also TA1, TA2, grader positions with compensation varying from $15-$10/hour, these positions do not get fee waivers.
    3. TA/RA with 50% FTE (20 hours/week) get full fee waiver which is around $19000/semester and they only have to pay 15% of insurance fee (15% of $1600/semester).
    4. Stipend is more than enough to live in Columbus, I also end up saving around $500/month, a portion of which I have started investing in stocks and ROTH IRA (a request to you for making a video on the FIRE movement and ways to invest money for students).

      Its the same with University of Cincinnati as well. You get around $1900 PM irrespective of the 'A job' you have along with a complete fee waiver complete health insurance waiver during the appointment period. I end up spending $617 per semester which is way cheaper and also Cincinnati is not costly.

      Hello Harsh ... Great to know someone from OSU. I got an admit from both USC and OSU. While doing the math I just realised that it costs around $80,000 for 30 credits(almost equal to USC). Can you confirm if this is true ? Also In terms of course (ECE), I want to specialize in Machine learning. So, are there any comments from your side on the general course structure and job opportunities ?
      THANKS in advance :-)

    • @harshbavishi5256
      @harshbavishi5256 3 года назад +2

      Hey @@chakradharbandla7125, regarding the tuition, it depends on how many semesters you will need to graduate, for three semesters (~$65,000) and for four semesters (~$85,000), one can easily graduate in three semesters. I can just comment on ECE in general, not specifically for Machine learning as I am from Power electronics field, so overall courses are okay, professors are willing to give MS students research opportunities (initially not funded in general but if you prove yourself, they won't mind you funding), but this stuff is common with any university in US. Things I wish I knew before coming here: high tuition fees compared to other state universities, full time co-ops not allowed for international students, courses such as project management and ethics (time consuming) are mandatory for project based MS. Job opportunities, I would recommend you to focus on location, I have seen many companies hiring a lot from local universities, otherwise it's just the plain old struggle of international students to get jobs.

    I think there are some things not quite right with the UCLA info. TAs and RAs are paid more around $30/hr, and most departments cover in state tuition and health insurance. Some departments such as electrical engineering also cover out of state with everything else above.

    • @pranshugarg4627

      There are also ample grader positions, and it offers around $18/hr to graduate and $16/hr to undergrads. Number of hours is based on how many students you are grading, one student gets you 1.5 hrs in appointment time.

    Being a Columbia Graduate Student. I can tell about the Electrical Engineering dpt. They're offering pretty good opportunities in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering too. My friend is working as a grading assistant and there's lots of opportunities in Project Assistant positions where will be 2 options. Either student can take stipend that'll around 900-1100 USD per month or opt for 3 credit score (Similar to fee waiver) for 1 specific subject. That's true here TA & RA position are highly competitive for first year international students.

    It's definitely true! University of Michigan grad here. The GSI ( aka TA)/GSRA (aka RA) is near to impossible to get if you are a master student. Extremely hard for most departments (with a small possibility within IT/Electronics).It's something only for PhD students.
    I'm a structural engineering grad, and I'd say getting an RA/TA is possible out of engineering but in a related field (like geology, earth science, physics 101, analysis for architects etc.) That's what I did :)
    One can easily be a grader though!
