Hey everyone! This is my favourite Metallica song, ever since I started playing guitar this tune really inspired me. It's so emotional yet heavy and intense. I always wanted to make a harp guitar arrangement but it was always so difficult to make it sound full. But here it is, finally got through it all! Thanks for watching!

Badass
Amazing
So beautiful, thank you.
Awesome work! Just curious- have you ever considered playing the Chapman stick? You seem well-suited for it.
High class badassery
missed opportunity to call it a guitarp
Guitharp
Hartar?
In italian, indeed it is called chitarpa, from chitarra (guitar) and arpa (harp)
Harpitar
Or a guitharp.
I didn’t even know a harp guitar existed but I’m glad it does
Check out Andy McKee. There's a number of people that play the harp guitar, but I'm most familiar with him.
I think everything imaginable exists now.
It's actually a more of a marketing trick, even the earliest guitar-like instruments had so called bourdon strings.
Michael Hedges is a name to look up as well.
Im glad he played fade to black
Never thought I would hear my classically trained, organ playing, church going grandmother ask me to replay a Metallica song over again!
Imagine her response if you tell her Power Metal is classical music played with a different mode, (phrygian, locrian, dorian, lydian, mixolydian, etc.) and with distortion. 😇🙏👍🤘
@@morlokvestai-kurak9680 yeah a lot of metal heads are actually into classical music, and as someone who plays both styles it is very cool to see the comparisons and stylistic similarities
This is beautiful! Love it! I bet my grandma would have loved this. She got mad at me for listening to One. I still think she'd have liked it if she'd have listened to the words.
@@sebastianwhite584 Absolutely!! If anyone wants to play masterfully like JD here? The classics will get you there!!

@@jennifermiller4264 Great offer!!
Looks more like a guitar with a top six string bass .
Yep it is, it’s just that they’re open bass strings, instead of fretted, so that’s where the harp title comes in!
Yes that's exactly what it is and I want one or I'll make it
@@JamieDupuisMusician they named it harp because they know guitar and BASS are enemies

If I were a king I would conscript this man as my minstrel so I could sit in my thrown drink Mead and listen to him cover Metallica all day. Together we would conquest the lands of our enemies with ease

I'd just get Metallica to play for me.

It was kind of annoying

I am now convinced Fade to Black is a cover of a medieval funeral song.
This guy has more musical talent in one finger than I will ever have.
Practice, you might surpass him.
Don’t you mean in one pinky 😃
This comment reminds me of The clip of the guy on the Xbox 360
@@johnmcfadden9336 one pinky = one finger?
You just corrected him to say the same thing he originally said... Like if I had said to you, "don't you mean one small finger which is next to the ring finger, opposing the thumb?"
He said: eh it ain’t that hard.
As a lifelong fan who has loved this epic song for a couple decades, I have to say that this was well and tastefully done and captures the essence of the song and sounds great doing it.
This is the most beautiful rendition of fade to black ive heard.
Outstanding thank you 😊
I generally don't care for cover versions that add their own "flare", it usually ruins it for me, but this was really great, i enjoyed it very much.
Thank you for sharing your talents with me.
I saw the guitar on the picture for the video and thought "WOAH!"
Then I actually tap on the video and listen to him play, I'm speechless, my mind is blown. This is straight up astonishing. I applaud you for your skill.

That is the most beautiful rendition of fade2black I've ever heard I'm 47 years old I got the Ride the Lightning album when I was 15 years old on vinyl and I swear to God on my life that is the most beautiful rendition of Fade to Black one of my favorite songs on that album that heart gets hard is amazing I am sure Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield would love to own one of those great job bro
Thanks!!
I’m used to this song being super heavy but this sounds incredible
When you have no friends and have to be your own bassist.
And your own percusionist ;)
Someone jelly.
Well, it’s not like a bassist is ever really needed anyway. 😉
Davie504 would be proud
Nothing else matters anyway. 😉😏
Okay I'll stop now. 😅
I don't remember how I came across your music on RUclips. All I can say is it is the best channel out there. When I have had a bad day I just grab the headphones and crank up some of your tunes and man that bad day turns in to the best day. Thanks for being one of the greatest musicians.
I cant decide if I'm more impressed with his timing or managing to find all these crazy remote been places to shoot these vids
The production values are so high, you should only know. Beautiful! No, stunning. Cool.
who's dumb enough to dislike this, this is art. this man has skill and appreciate that!
Anytime anyone tries to tell me that Heavy Metal isn't deep or can't be considered "art" like classical music and whatever else, I direct them to this song and Nothing Else Matters.
@@volkerball85 fo sho g
@@volkerball85 show em ne obliviscaris cause the clean vocalist also plays the violin, or leprous cause they make some gorgeous pop heavy prog metal, or alcest for some beautiful French metal lol
Insecure people, that’s who.
I mean... it’s “Fade to Black” done in a unique way because of that overly sized “open string only” bass on top lol. Cool but not fond of the sound . Guess I’m dumb .... just heard a too many versions I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you Jamie for blessing us with your wonderful music. I could sit for hours and listen to you play that beautiful instrument.
Jesus christ this man is playing bass, guitar, and vocal notes at the same time
And drum
And a snare drum. Not to mention around 5:35 when he plays a lead and rhythm guitar part at the same time on one guitar when its obviously pre recorded. Oops.
@@grimmcalypso396 Called a back track, man. And, yeah, Jamie plays that too. Mixes in studio. Oops.
He’s been watching some Tommy Emmanuel videos maybe. Tommy is best guitarist I’ve ever saw play.
@@shooterpcb Good eye. Good to see knowledge in here. Rare. Tommy E one of his examples.
If you disliked this.. im going to assume you hate music 🎶
Harp Guitar is well suited for this.musical song, it gives Fade to Black a soft subtle sound that reaches into a listener heart.
Glad to hear that! Thank you!
Damn right :), I am not much of a Metallica listener though I call myself a metalhead (I know, what a sacrilege ;)), but this is one of my favourites of their songs. Love how the melody dominates it all in this arrangement, even more so than in the original 🥰
Again, how you use the whole instrument to get the tune to come across, unbelievable! You are one of a kind, Jamie! Whoever disliked this, is jealous, because, they wish they could play like you. Don't let any thumbs down get you down!! You're the best!!
Halfanut thanks so much Bizz!
This extraordinary instrument appears to be a cross between a guitar and the Star Trek Vulcan harp. Awesome. One of these should appear on the new show ST: Strange New Worlds

My favorite song for so many years, so incredibly done. Hats off my friend !!
😳no word...and there are people who say Metallica only make noise. And give finger down...How bad envy is... amazing versión
Most of the time they do. This is rare for Metallica. Its only because cliff was involved.
Man, I would love to hear Ozzy's Killer of Giants on this.
Yes, please do Killer of Giants.
I had a smile when I heard that familiar tune. Been listening to it a lot lately. Always loved metallica. The passion they showed, its still there in those tunes. 😊
I love how this guy played a beautiful solo version of the song on a crazy guitar and 1,300 people go "Eh, thumbs down." Do those 1,300 people really not like it or are y'all just jealous little babies and mad because you'll never be able to do something like this? It's a rhetorical question.
