    With that plaster off you can put up studs - insulate and then modern plasterboard walls and the house will be warm in winter and cool in summer. What Toyla has achieved in just a month is amazing.

      A stud wall and plaster board/sheetrock is a good idea. But make sure the old brick walls are structurally sound first. They may need to be re-mortared (tuck-pointed). Unreinforced masonry walls are a big problem.
      When Tolya removed the plaster and I saw the old brick, I thought, "Oh-oh. There's a potential problem."
      But I KNOW you can and will make this a beautiful home.

    My Dad renovated our family’s home more than 50 years ago. He was a 32 year old father of six at the time. Old plaster had to go. New wall studs, electricity, plumbing, heating, insulation, plaster board, etc. my mom said she spent the entire first summer just trying to keep the children away from the demolition areas of the house.
    It is a beautiful home now. Yours will be too. Best wishes! ❤

Not only could it produce mold now, it will sure warp the heck out of any wood inside the house. The plaster fell off because it was soaked in water. I wish the best for you but, it looks like you have a major money pit there. I sure hope you're putting up dry wall or plaster over the brick? OMG is all I can say. Wish there was a few more people helping him. That's a LOT of work!

    • @Tanya_Offscript
      @Tanya_Offscript Год назад +2

      Their climate might be drier out there. I come from Georgia, USA, and mold is a huge issue. If you leave a building alone without climate control, you’ll get mold within the year. But when we moved to Midwest, mold isn’t as big an issue because of the lower humidity.
      As that’s been standing for ages without occupiers an no mold, I’ll assume their humidity is lower.

    • @yinyangforyou
      @yinyangforyou Год назад +3

    @NekoNeko-nk9xy Год назад +7

    Oh, dear. You really need to have the house checked by a structural engineer. It looks like there are serious issues with your foundation and walls, especially in the corner where the bathroom is. The floor there is extremely uneven and you got huge stair step cracks in the brick work. Also seeing how deteriorated the mortar and how poor the brickwork is inside and outside, the house is likely not structurally sound. This is a big safety concern, especially since Georgia does have earthquakes.
    I'm gonna make an educated guess here and say the house is in one of the villages that were founded back in late 80's, when the Soviet government resettled several thousand people from the northern part of the country to the south because avalanches had destroyed their villages. Those houses were built very cheaply because they needed housing for all those families fast. Hence the shoddy brickwork and lack of plumbing and insulation in the house. Those houses are of poor quality and are likely not worth the time and money it takes to repair them. Even if you do most of it yourself. You would be much better off tearing it down and rebuilding it. Sometimes starting over is the cheaper and faster option.
    (Just doing a quick Google search, you can get a pretty cute 67 m2 prefab house for 30k US$ in Georgia. That's more than likely less than you'll pay to renovate the current house.)
    And while it's admirable to try and learn how to do home renovation by yourself, it's important to know what you're doing to avoid making mistakes that are difficult and expensive to fix later on. Using a pressure washer inside your home and saturating all the wooden floors with water for example was not a good thing to do. You likely made the already bad mould issue in your house much worse, because the water will seep through the floorboards and up the doorframes and cause the wood to rot.
    I truly wish you all the best but if you really decide to reno the house, I'm afraid you'll either have to sink way more time and money into it than you realize to make it safe and livable, or you'll have to live in a house that poses a health risk to you and your children.
    Oh, and please, please wear proper masks when working in there. Even when you're just shovelling debris into a bag, you are making dust fly into the air that you then inhale. Even if there's no asbestos in there, this sort of thing is never good for your lungs and can lead to serious health issues.

    Tolya is a treasure. You both are obviously very hard workers. I am in the USA. My son is married to a Russian woman. She is here in the USA but my grandsons (twins) were born in Moscow. I’m very happy for you and your family. Will keep an eye out for more videos. Your house is going to be lovely.

    What a hard worker your hubby is:) You must be very proud of all he is doing to get the house ready. I'm sure it is not easy to have the two little girls on your own too. May the Lord give you both strength and grace! Dawn
