Today we start a brand new vanilla city play through in Cities: Skylines 2! Thank you Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive for the early access to the game to show you early footage of Cities: Skylines 2 city building.
In this video we follow my story through the early parts of my life as we unlock milestones and place schools in our city. I do talk about how you can detail in Cities: Skylines 2 without props or trees, because I love to decorate and beautify in our favourite city builder game!

He claims you don't have to do ANY management for this game?! 👀👀
I can prove it! haha
It's unfortunate how you're doing a college town and there aren't bike lanes available for the game! Also, hope to see bus service to the college eventually.
We have to add some Tim Hortons just for this series! 🧐
I vote for Country Style instead. ; )
Not a big fan of Tim Horton's (I don't drink coffee), but they are all over the place up here, so it would be a welcome asset in my opinion.
please do. i love me a little timmies
YES!
Fuck yes
What I've loved that I've seen so far by all of the community is the fact that the beginning levels are not so money stringent.
This is helpful to not be out of money but I don't really understand having goal progression to a village without a single person living there.
It was such a great start for the city! Love how you detailed it and all the storytelling! :) Now we wait those trees to grow 😅
I suspect a looooot of us have trees waiting to grow. ; )
As a Canadian the aboots are both hilarious and triggering 😂
So lovely to hear your stories. I really liked how the university turned out.
Thank you Joy! Watching you as I respond to this, I have been converted to the power of the superblock!
I was so suprised when I clicked in this video and heard Outer Wilds music, it was honestly the last thing that I expected and it maked me pretty damn happy.
Already you're one of the all time best CS content creators on here for the quality of your builds, but the storytelling really just makes the entire video so engaging on a whole other level (also GREAT job on the interchange)
What a great introduction to Cities 2! Showing off the game and features, but making it unique with a very personal journey was a great call. Can't wait to see more stories in the upcoming videos
Thanks good sir, I appreciate you.
My favourite things I found out about today are 1-tile roads (alleys, right?), bus-only roads, zoning grids preferring one street over another instead of creating weird tetris Ls and Ts near intersections, and the story of young Toad.
Aaaah, love this!
Im crying the road building looks so much more easy
I can't wait to see this series progress! Great work Toadie!
Ay, thank you!!
Honestly the best feature is being able to snap wood power lines onto the road
that first minute is the best introduction to a C:S2 video I have seen so far, I love it so much, laughing my ass off xDDD ♥
Brilliant video, Toadie! I loved all the story-telling as you were doing the building. Keep up the amazing work
Thank you! Looking forward to continuing the stories through the series.
What a great video! Throughout this video, I feel you talk just enough. It was really lovely hearing some of your history through Canada, and having it built right before us. I think the bird is fine being off, as even Chirpy needs to sleep. I love how you play the game how you want to play it and are sharing your CS2 build with us! :)
LOL Aight you're not fired quite yet. Thanks, bud.
I’m hoping they drawable parks (the way landfills are now) that provide benefits based on the size how many trees/rocks/benches are inside the area. That would add a ton of customization and uniqueness to the parks. Maybe also have drawable cemeteries.
This is such a great idea. I don't want to always design parks from scratch like with the parks DLC, but the fixed size park assets always felt too limiting in CS1. This would be a perfect in-between solution.
Love the little story you're telling in the video ^-^
And I also really appreciate the little tips you're putting up on the screen, much appreciated 💛
Thank you so much for the video ^-^
ALL the best! :)
Thank you! Very kind. : ) All my best back, looking forward to sharing tips much more slowly and pointedly when I can.
Happy to see some detailing be done and while not ideal by any means w/out props and stuff, I think you did a great job with it and have certainly restored a bit of hope for me in the detailing department
Rebellions were built on hope! I think the community will be sure to come up with some crafty ways to do the things. : )
This game looks so much easier to get into than C:S1, I can't wait to give it a try!
My favourite dlc on CS1 is Campus. So I love that you focused on the education part. ❤ Thanks Toadie
A fellow Campus lover in the wild! Loved that DLC.
I think you've captured the soul of this new game (and it is a *new* game) in a really brilliant way. It's more people oriented than before in the sense that the quality of life of your citizens really, really matters. The format you've chosen to introduce yourself to us and to the game really shines. I love this so much. I hope beautification and props improve to reflect that as much as the policies and services seem to.
Hey, want you to know that reading this comment after a few others dunking on me/the game brought me back to a smile. Thanks so much! Hope you can enjoy the game through its development into the next few years!
@@ToadieZzz I'm horrified to hear you've been dunked on, I can't possibly imagine why. You stories made me smile, your city is beauitful y tus ganas de hablar en espa~ol me tocaron el corazon. Espero verte mucho mas en el futuro!
It is adorable when you are telling us your story.
I like how you talk and tell stories 😊 I also appreciate the tips n tricks of how to use some of the tools. Being relatively new to the series its helping. Can’t wait for more !
Excited to see your video, Toadie!
The best part about this video were the little personal stories, really adds depth to the world and helps to relate to Toadie
Hail Toadie playing CS2! What a nice video, it was like listening to an audiobook. Thank you for sharing gameplay and your stories. I appreciate you.
And I appreciate you! Thank you. : )
The background story, and THE TONS of tips! Seriously, bb, what CS2 content! Bravo~!
ps. I wonder if C.O. will patch up that "leveling up" tip that you brought up here....
Best Cities Skylines II video I've seen can't wait to play myself. Oh yeah I almost forgot hail bubble on a stick!
love the video but watching you place those bendy roads in the beginning hurt to watch. My brain likes straight grids and geometric shapes :)
Childhood stories were unexpetedly cute and wholesome to hear ❤
the outer wilds music makes this so much better
Outer Wilds music makes everything so much better.
I love that you are giving tutorials and tips already! 👏👏 Loved this, great video! Subbed! 🥳🎉
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed.
@@ToadieZzz .. I don't know how I wasn't subbed before 😭 .. can't wait to see your next 2! 🥳🎉
Toadie - It took me a while to get to your videos. I love them. You're so endearing and it makes the videos such a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for a smile today!
I wish I had a early key to showcase it. But yeah watching you and Biffa and the official skylines devs build is great. Now hoping time will fly 😅
The new roads are the best thing so far. You asked about what I think is best, and here it is.
I've seen a few early preview videos now and I really like the personal touch by adding your story to your town building! Thank you for sharing!
So glad to hear you enjoyed, thanks for watching! : )
Loved what you did here! Loved the story, totally relatable small town Canadiana!
❤️🤍
Like 23m in you just swap to a somewhere inbetween watch mojo and a weathergirl vibe with your cadence and voice. The road tools, and new expanded density options are what I'm most looking forward top. Great video, informative, but also felt like how people actually play, rather than just showcasing everything.
The most wholesome CS video ever ❤
Hail bubble in a stick!
It was probably a Gall which is a plants protective growth over a wound.
Turns out it was a Galls on Goldenrods!!
One of the best of these videos of the many I have seen. Great job.
Cannot wait to see this Toadie!!
I love the outer wilds theme
I would love a cinematic video exploring the sound:, -on diferents climates, lightnings sounds..like a ARSM
This is a great idea for a nice, casual video. Definitely writing it down for once I've got a larger city with plenty of variety in soundscapes.
This XP system seems like an odd choice. Like all the other RUclips videos I’ve seen people are building road networks for an entire city before there is even a house in it. Imagine how strange that would be in real life, think of the city closest to you with all the roads but no buildings….
Closest example I can think of in real life are the failed ghost cities in China. Entire cities with no one living in them.
I find it odd that a cities size and capacity for construction in real life is based on population. CS1 does this….CS2 doesn’t?
I’m pretty excited though because it looks like I’ll be able to build a really cool rural town with farms and large spaces in between. CS1 kind of forced you to build suburbs at best due to power not being able to reach people more than a few blocks away without ugly power lines.
Edit: the story of your life growing up building this town was very pleasant. Subbed wouldn’t mind watching you continue building your childhood town in a series once the game comes out.
I love how you add sentimental value to your city! Just earned a subscriber for CS2 season, keep going! You're so fun to watch
Great video. Thanks for the focus on detailing and beautification
the most interesting topic for me, still unanswered, about CS2, is detailing. Great that you are doing this video :)
I do talk aboot it a fair bit in the video, I hope I can enlighten!
Good video. I thought you were designing a smiley face arrangement with one of your bush groupments as you talked about positive thinking. I'm hoping that the infrastructure is going to be more flexible for modders. For example, you opted against some college upgrades because it would have taken away the decorative areas on each side. Can modders change that? Some of the buildings I see being placed against the side of an asset -- can they be placed away from it? Must they always attach?
Looking forward to this, seems to be the Great Highlands map. Can you make videos on the Windy Fjords map if you havent already? I really wanna see what it looks like.
It's not the Great Highlands map. ; )
Im still hyped for City skylines 2
great video!
Hype level: 3000 🥳
Every word in perfect English. Proceeds to talk about rounda boots. 😊
Cat tails. Bubble on a stick is a cat tail.
The 'thing on a stick' - did you mean Reeds?
They almost look like a Pogo on a stick
I might just end this in a roundaBOOT lol
Roundaboot?????😅 Never heard of them sorry. But subscribed 🥰
What???? Can you put the electrical pylons underground???? How????
That thumbnail ("No Props") makes me nervous. Not sure if that means props aren't in the game, or maybe just not in this video. Anxiously awaiting the viddy...
My marketing scheme has worked!
Ahhh, cruel! @@ToadieZzz
Take a chill pill to and give it some TIME. lol
Interesting but i do hope stuff we do not see jet will come like native ability to play like many do ... ploping and detailing with move it, find it ... i am not impressed with growing trees ...
First time hearing it pronouced as ROUNDEBU
Ah so you can fundamentally break progression 😂
I can't wait for speedruns.
The lack of contour lines seems to be a bit of an issue lol
Apparently its been fixed now
It's round a bowts not boots
These scaffoldings look like nothing is being built in your city. And all this money for unlocking milestones, I don't understand why they give so much money.
You get what feels like a lot of money with milestones, but keep in mind buildings cost a heck of a lot as well! In my opinion it's very well balanced.
Games really needs the DLC from CS1. Why would I leave CS1?
wow, your voice sounds AI
You are talking to much want to see the game, and why isnt the bird on??
Round a boot lol sorry love your dialect
A collage town? Yes count me in!
I'm really keen to see how you detail in CS2! And without props or trees? Sign me in!
Hail bubble on the stick😂 lmao. I love that tho.
HAIL BUBBLE ON A STICK
Very cozy build with a nice personal element ☺
Love us some cozy vibes, you're the best!
I'm a little slow starting, but I'm starting! A week ago, I was getting out of the hospital. I didn't have a clue what was wrong. I feared a stroke and death's door. Now I know it was a combo blood pressure, diabetes, nutrition, and cancer meds reaction. My daughter helped get me back on the path and working on eating. Then 3 days ago, 2 of my high school best friends came to visit because I was missing my 55th high school reunion being sick. Between them and dear online friends, I'm making a turnaround. I'm fighting to get my strength bac, and changes are in the works. You are helping me keep hope for the game. So not only I'm loving your story your messages are coming through loud and clear. You're helping me with life and the game. Toadie, you are very important to me!
Keep fighting Anne! I look forward to many years of hearing from you.

This game is beautiful wow. Great video Terd, love the stories so much
No YOU'RE breathtaking.
Thank you.
Love the choice of Outer Wilds music at the start of the video :D
It's all throughout the video. Take a close listen at 22 minutes in. ; ) ; )
Haha yeah I noticed it kept playing while watching! I commented right when I first heart it :p @@ToadieZzz
That instrument is called berimbau and they use it in a fight called capoeira in Brazil
Excellent choice of soundtrack. Giving me those cozy Timber Hearth vibes. Loved the video, thanks for sharing!
CS2 Loks amazing, especially with the photo mode, didnt know you can do that :) Im so stoked right now :D :D
You are so wholesome it's so adorable!! (❤´艸`❤)
Beautiful stories to go with this super rad game. :D
damn, you got my sub after the first 30 seconds
SiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Are there any monkeys in this game?
I absolutely love that you get to play this game but it is complete torture that I can’t 😢
Hey with a shiny hat like that, I'm sure you're pretty cunning and will be enjoying the game in no time. : )
So is the landscaping tool only free before starting your city or the whole while?
At least in this build, it is always free. : ) Unsure if that will change.
@@ToadieZzz interesting! I can’t wait to see the custom maps people make!
I loved every minute. I found all of your CS1 videos so useful and fun to watch and am already feeling the same for CS2. I love that you had fun with this and shared a personal story too, such a unique take. Cant wait for more Toadie! X
I loved the video and the story behind it. Took me a bit to recognise the canadian accent. You must have grown up in the maritimes.
My heart is definitely out that way. : )
Thank you for this video, I love that you are telling your story!
Now, why are detailers being sooo f*cking selfish and literally starting to fill every single RUclipsr video with hate just because "We HaVe NO PrOps, jumm"?
That's something that the devs will add in the future, FOR SURE. I mean, I'm not disregarding that type of gameplay at all, but come on, CS1 has a very lackluster city simulation department, and seeing THAT being the focus of vanilla CS2 just fills my heart with joy. Adding props is something that can be easily done in an update, specially after seeing that the community wants it, but gameplay needs to be solid on release.
Come on guys, stop being so selfish and understand that us, gameplay oriented players have had a really rough time with CS1.
Also: Hello from the City of Friends! 💛
👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
You didn't really show much. its mostly you placing trees. lol
How come there is no console early access gameplay
I have a suspicion there's more faff that goes into giving people early access on console. I've asked for it & hope to be able to discuss console controls when I can!
The game play itself should all be very much the same, at least. : )
Damn. That's a pretty bad City layout there
