I would say that Miss Chung misses a fundamental point in her motivation of fear being more important to a leader than love.
Giving some examples of the fickleness of love, Chung asks the audience whether they have ever done something bad to a loved one or whether a loved one has ever done anything bad to them.
She says that the answer, presumably, is yes. Also, she points out, this would have been less likely done if the one perpetrated against would have been fears by the perpetrator.
However, what Chung misses in this is the love specifically rewarded to a leader as a leader. Just as one can love a person as a friend but not a lover, so one can love someone specifically as a leader.
Just imagine a leader you perceive to be far more capable than you. Imagine how he takes up your cause solely for your sake. How he saves you from the brink of detriment.
That sort of leader often earns the love specifically rewarded to leaders perceived to be both great, kind and selfless. Often the leader who is motivated by both a sense love and duty.
This form of love often makes one feel like one could never betray that leader. And of those few who do betray that leader, one feels that they are the scum of the earth.
This type of leader one would often gladly sacrifice oneself for in times where the fear inspiring leader would be abandoned.
One example to many of this kind of leader is the late king Rama IX of Thailand.
