Honestly. I've learned more watching these videos than from my 2 extremely confusing chem lectures. I honestly don't see the point in paying for education when most of anything you can learn is now available online for free. I guess you could argue that you need to go for the validation of the degree. I could understand the previous generations since everything they learned was from a textbook, before the internet lol.
I take a chemistry course in school and yet I don’t go into these videos with a revision session mindset. Instead I like to watch these out of curiosity. A wise man once said “you never learn something as profoundly as when it’s purely from curiosity”.
Dear hank green, I love your passion for learning and teaching! I wish more teachers and professors were like this, you have to know I'm not a huge fan of chemistry but thanks to the enthusiasm you exude I'll be watching the crash course chem videos for fun this summer thank you!
This was the last video I watched before I moved across the country to start a new job. It gave me hope. Hank's show was having an awesome reboot, so was my life.
Why silver is ag? In latin, silver translates to argentum The Latin word originates from argunas, a Sanskrit word meaning shining. Thats why silver is ag
I love the way you introduced Chemistry. It makes me love the subject even more. Great animations too. I have just actually started my video lectures in Forensic chemistry and toxicology for my Criminology students during the pandemic. I could only hope I was able to introduce chemistry to them as amazing as you did. Thanks!
I love you guys. I'm italian, and I've been having terrible science teaching since grade 8. Now I'm grade 13 (yes, we have it) and you're helping me to start back and recover the things I lost in the past years. In my country we have to win a selection if we want to get to some universities. If I manage to pass, I will open a bottle and toast to yours sake. Keep on, I follow you.
I sure am hoping this section is good. My high school chemistry teacher was so awful, I've been avoiding Chemistry ever since. I literally took more biology courses to avoid chemistry in college. Very excited for this.
This is the single greatest channel on youtube. I have loved your content and humor for years and its so much fun that i always come back for more, never afraid to appraoch a new topic, because you guys truly make it a joy. Thank you
Hey Hank as a college student taking their first chemistry class with one of those semi-wonky professors thank you thank you thank you (and the entire Crash Course Chemistry team) for doing this! :o)
As a medical student who tutors undergrad chemistry as a part time job, I am still excited and plan on watching this for fun!! Hank Green is a wonderful teacher!
It's decided. When I go to comicon this week and join the 5th avenue zombie walk, given my education, job (chem teacher), glasses, and bad hair, I will go as Hank Gangrene.
I am so excited for Crash Course chemistry! I'm taking chemistry in school right now, and it's not easy for me. If anyone can teach it, Hank can. Thank you!!! Also, Crash Course US History will help me in history class. Merci beaucoup!
Oh man, I can't wait for this. You can tell that Hank is genuinely passionate about chemistry. As a fellow chemist, it's gonna be a blast to nerd out about this stuff with him :D
Pressure is related to physics and chemistry. Pressure is a force applied over an area, and since part of physics looks at forces, it's mentioned a bit there. It's also in chemistry, because if you have a chemical reaction involving a gas, the pressure of that gas can control how fast the reaction happens.
Crash course I just wanna say all your videos deserve millions of views i really enjoyed ur history courses and I'm really looking forward to chemistry
I'm so proud of them, they're literally the teachers of RUclips; they've expanded sooooo much over the last few months and it's a benefit for everyone. NERDFIGHTERS!
It feels like he's following my exact course schedule for school, crash course biology started when my school biology class started, and crash course chemistry is starting roughly when my chemistry class begins. Truly this is awesome. ^_^
I can't even tell you how excited I am for this. I love chemistry, but chem does not love me back. I had to stop taking classes after the intro series for the sake of my GPA, but I find it one of the most fascinating things ever, and can't wait to learn more.
Thanks a lot Hank (and the rest of the team), a lot of people are requesting you to cover many different topics from physics to economics and maybe some of those people are disappointed by the next subject being chemistry, but know that every subject you've covered thus far has been exacly the thing I have needed help with and now I'm starting chemistry and so are you, hurra! Thanks again!
Latin for silver is "argentum". Argent was commonly used in English as a word for silver and still is sometimes in poetry. It is also the French word for silver, and the Italian for silver is "argento".
OMG so happy to hear that Thought Bubble will be involved. I've loved the videos, but they will be much more engaging for my students with more visuals to help explain the content.
So excited! I'm retaking chemistry at my university to try to get an A for professional school applications, and I can't think of a better supplementary teacher than Hank!
We're having chemistry in our 3rd year (which starts this year) AND I AM JUST SO HAPPY- that this new series will probably be starting just in time for the 3rd year. Crash Course Biology has saved my ass (donkey) in my 2nd year, I can't wait for Crash Course Chemistry, DFTBA you guys!
Not that I have am a teacher, but a general rule is that whatever an element's atomic mass is, that is the mass, in grams, of a mole of that element. 1 mole of He would be 4 grams. 1 mole of H2O would be 18 grams. 16 for the one oxygen, and 2 for the two hydrogens. I thought it was way more complex, but that is it.
I'm glad to see Chemistry up here. I managed to get through a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering without ever taking a basic Chemistry course (I know, right?), so all I know is what I've taught myself or learned from another science course. I'm glad Hank's gonna fill in some of those blank spots for me.
I am just glad that you have changed your look Hank, you look fresher, more professional, elegant, and yes even hotter, some of your previous crashcourse videos featured a Hank that had just woken up and didnt even care enough to brush his hair, so yes, somehow this new look makes me wanna pay more attention to you
Thaaaaaaaaaaaank you! I'm studying Chemistry in University and since our lab isn't really the best we could hope for, it's always nice to see fun/important stuff on the InterWebZ. :)
I agree with Nonosh on accountancy, to get a better grasp on cost, taxes and financial related help. And I personally would appreciate a fun option for me to learn about Chemistry, which I have issues understanding. Mainly due to math. I can't seem to retain operations in my head and why one set of calculations is required for one thing or another.
I AM SO EXCITED ZOMG!!! We're just starting studying physics in our class + the elements. I am looking forward to this! You guys have made it so far from brotherhod 2.0, to vlogbrothers, to crash course, to scishow. Thank you so much for making learning much more fun. Thank you so so so (there are so many so's that it won't fit) much from the bottom of my heart :) you guys are the best!
He meant the last two as in "How do we fix global warming?" and "How do we live forever?" I'm pretty sure they teach you that many of the elemental symbols have Latin roots in high school chem
The root word, 'arg-' means 'grey' or 'shining' in both Latin and Greek. Silver is called argentum in Latin and árguros (άργυρος) in Greek. So its chemical symbol is Ag.
THANK GOD. I'm currently in Chemistry this semester and my teacher DOES NOT TEACH. I'm almost 99% sure I'll learn more on Crash Course chemistry then I learn in class.
I don't even know why I pay college tuition anymore.
Degree: am i a joke to you?
Taylor Ward Because you need to pay for that piece of paper, and it’s expensive.. extortion anybody?
You pay for college tuition to gain the next step on the stairway of knowledge :)
There is more taught at universities.
I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, or even put a stopper in death.
Ayyy potter head
Harry Potter?
My Motto For Chem.
Sarah, I am interested.
Omg I love Snape!!!!!
I take a chemistry course in school and yet I don’t go into these videos with a revision session mindset. Instead I like to watch these out of curiosity. A wise man once said “you never learn something as profoundly as when it’s purely from curiosity”.
Here's something curious
English:
Fe = Iron
Ag = Silver
Cu = Copper
French:
Fe = Fer
Ag = Argent
Cu = Cuivre
Oh....Oh!
Ag = serebro
Au = zoloto
We were working on the overall Crash Course branding as well as history, but now we've joined Hank's team too!
Thank you Hank for all the youtube videos. I have learned so much.
I call this "That smart part of youtube..."
We're at your service!
Why silver is ag?
In latin, silver translates to argentum
The Latin word originates from argunas, a Sanskrit word meaning shining.
Thats why silver is ag

When it’s exam week and your teacher cancels every study class last minute so your panicking watching this to help
Lazy-child 1 THATS EXACTLY WHAT IM DOING
mfw dragons
Lazy-child 1 heheheh
DOES IT HELP???
Silver's chemical symbol is Ag from the latin for silver: ArGentum.
:)
Thx
It's a rebirth, we still make 'Thought Bubbles', but they live in Thought Cafe :)
I love how crash course can make learning becomes fun
Thank you, Hank! I may actually be able to pass my GCSE Chemistry exam, now.
I used to watch these videos back when I was a freshman and sophomore. I just graduated with my biochem degree this month! Thanks, crashcourse!
I hope it will last longer than the previous crash courses. Chemistry is just such a huge topic!
I’m back after a few years to re-learn all of this
I'm going to be reading about an element a day on Wikipedia. This will be a great supplement to that!
We still make 'thought bubbles', but Thought Cafe will grow on you...we promise :)
I sure am hoping this section is good. My high school chemistry teacher was so awful, I've been avoiding Chemistry ever since. I literally took more biology courses to avoid chemistry in college. Very excited for this.
Physics! Do physics!
HALLELUJAH I JUST STARTED CHEMISTRY THIS SEMESTER. best timing ever.
YOU'RE STARTING CHEMISTRY? LOVING YOU GUYS!
As a medical student who tutors undergrad chemistry as a part time job, I am still excited and plan on watching this for fun!! Hank Green is a wonderful teacher!
Yes, I'm so excited, Chemistry is easily my favorite sort of science.
This is so exiting! I am in the second semester studying Chemistry right now and I am looking forward to this new season of Crashcourse. DFTBA!
It's decided. When I go to comicon this week and join the 5th avenue zombie walk, given my education, job (chem teacher), glasses, and bad hair, I will go as Hank Gangrene.
I'm learning chemistry at school. My brain is already getting overloaded in the first week. this is definitely going to help a lot. thank you so much,
breaking bad
I am so excited for Crash Course chemistry! I'm taking chemistry in school right now, and it's not easy for me. If anyone can teach it, Hank can. Thank you!!!
Also, Crash Course US History will help me in history class. Merci beaucoup!
please do a crash course in organic chemistry pleaseeeeee
Going to take Chemistry next year (: Going to watch these videos and get a head start! Thanks to Hank and everyone who makes these videos happen.
Oh man, I can't wait for this. You can tell that Hank is genuinely passionate about chemistry. As a fellow chemist, it's gonna be a blast to nerd out about this stuff with him :D
that music is all I need for motivation!
I’m here bc of online school, thank you hank you are a god
My undergrad degree is also in chemistry, so I'm super excited for these new episodes :)
Ag comes from the Latin name for the element: argetlam. Same with Hg: hydrargyrum; and Pb: plumbum; iron (Fe), iron
YES. I'm in Chemistry this year, and I've found it surprisingly challenging. This should make things easier!
I recommend frequently linking to periodicvideos during these videos, because they are awesome and they also do chemistry!
this has made my day! sci show + chem = best show ever made in the history of man!
I AM TAKING CHEMISTRY NEXT YEAR!! HANK GREEN, I LOVE YOU!!! YOU MAKE MY LIFE AWESOME TO THE EXTREME!
Currently reading Lavoisier's Elements of Chemistry in my free time and HELLA excited for this!!
Reviewing for my college chemistry class💜
I NEED THIS NOW! Taking chemistry this semester as well. Getting confused about moles to grams and conversions in chemical reactions.
as someone who stopped doing science to focus on humanities in like year 9 I AM EXCITED FOR THIS SOMEHOW
Whoever made that set is really talented.
HANK, YOU ARE UNDOUBTEDLY GOING TO SAVE MY A LEVEL. Thank you so much. Genuinely.
I am so thankful i dont have to wait for these videos to come out every week
So excited!! I will be taking chemistry next year and I didnt know how I would get through it without it! SO EXCITED!
I CANNOT CONTAIN THE BUBBLING, ECSTATIC JOY THAT ERUPTS FROM THE DEEPEST, DARKEST PIT OF MY CHEMICAL INCOMPETENCE!!! THANK YOU!!!!
We included Crash Course in our video "How to Impress your Kids - 10 Educational Channels". Keep up the great work!!
Yeeeesss yes yes so excited for this! I fugging love chemistry! And right in time for year 12 as well!
I actually said "YESSS!" out loud and ad to explain to unsuspecting people why I was excited
I know I'm gonna find this course so useful!
CHEMISTRY!
Latin for silver is "argentum". Argent was commonly used in English as a word for silver and still is sometimes in poetry. It is also the French word for silver, and the Italian for silver is "argento".
Looked up crash course chemistry cause I need one before ACT, now I'm watching everything :)
My favourite part of chemistry is practical applications... particularly making fun things out of household chemicals that can go 'boom'.
Oh man, this looks so good. I mostly like John's American History course, but this one really looks intriguing. This is going to be awesome.
OMG so happy to hear that Thought Bubble will be involved. I've loved the videos, but they will be much more engaging for my students with more visuals to help explain the content.
Perfect timing hank, just started a new unit in grade 10 Science.
So excited! I'm retaking chemistry at my university to try to get an A for professional school applications, and I can't think of a better supplementary teacher than Hank!
I'm taking chemistry in high school now and I have never been this happy! :)
Yay! Taking chemistry in school and my teacher is alright but doesn't explain enough! This should help because Hanks explanations always make sense!!
so pumped!!!! chemistry was the subject i had to give up in school due to no spare room for subjects, so learning it here will be a dream come true :D
YES! THANK YOU HANK! as a high school junior taking chemistry (and getting a B by some miracle) i appreciate this
I feel super lucky that you're starting CrashCourse chemistry the year I'm taking AP chemistry :D
Seriously, if you ever do physics, I would help. I love explaining physics to people.
Physics needs to happen.
Thaaaaaaaaaaaank you!
I'm studying Chemistry in University and since our lab isn't really the best we could hope for, it's always nice to see fun/important stuff on the InterWebZ. :)
Nice timing Hank we just started a unit on chemistry in science.
You have no idea how excited I am for this. Especially with my chemistry class coming up this next school year.
Yes, new set!! And Chemistry right as I start taking it in school. AWESOME!!!!!!!!
yall gonna be the only reason i pass these college chemistry classes
I agree with Nonosh on accountancy, to get a better grasp on cost, taxes and financial related help. And I personally would appreciate a fun option for me to learn about Chemistry, which I have issues understanding. Mainly due to math. Awesome, and I hope there would be a collaboration with Brady and Dr. Poliakoff.
I have seen the growth of your channel, and it is beautiful.
He meant the last two as in "How do we fix global warming?" and "How do we live forever?" I'm pretty sure they teach you that many of the elemental symbols have Latin roots in high school chem
It would have been great if the last two questions: 1:13 were also answered in this playlist.
oh my gosh. gonna ace my chemistry class from here on out. love you hank.
The root word, 'arg-' means 'grey' or 'shining' in both Latin and Greek. Silver is called argentum in Latin and árguros (άργυρος) in Greek. So its chemical symbol is Ag.
YESS!!!!!!!!!!!
I never got to take chemistry due to terrible high school counselors. I can finally feel complete.
oh my gosh thank you so much for making this! I've been waiting for this since Crash Course started!!
THANK GOD. I'm currently in Chemistry this semester and my teacher DOES NOT TEACH. I'm almost 99% sure I'll learn more on Crash Course chemistry then I learn in class.
Hey Hank! Please, go over the math of it all! It will help me and fellow ap chemistry students!
As someone who only passed chemistry on a wing and a prayer, I am totally looking forward to this.
