Fun fact: I stopped watching all Vlogbrother related material 3 years ago. I'm back now watching CrashCourse and SciShow to increase my knowledge of science to help me out when university starts in September.
In high school, I was very excited to take a Chemistry class. However, a few months in, it became my least favorite class. A bunch of the more rowdy students hijacked the class and often distracted the teacher - I learnt nothing, and it showed on tests. I eventually came to dislike Chemistry, treating it as a dirty word. But now, only one video in, a decent teacher has reminded me exactly why I was so excited in the first place. Thank you, Hank!
Did your school not have prerequisites for chemistry? At my high school, a student could not enroll in chemistry until they had completed algebra 1 and geometry, and could not enroll in physics until they had completed algebra 2/trigonometry. This had the effect of weeding the disruptive students out, as they were still languishing in pre-algebra or remedial arithmetic.
+dennis robinson A lot of teachers forget how important it is to educate, and just spute knowledge after a while.. I guess this guy has the ability to maintain the right intentions.
Education now is about money and a letter grade. Teachers want you to memorize so they can fulfill their given requirements. This is to help you learn and understand the topic.

If you're in high school or under, you can do TTM. Just ask your parents and they'll enroll you. It's good because if you don't understand a topic, they'll send you to a live teacher that can help you through video chatting (or if you don't want to do that) typing. :)
Back in my sophomore year, my teacher never taught us any of these. Instead, of actual chemistry lecture, he gave us articles and forced us to highlight, annotate, and write an essay about it ( more work than my actual English class). Now I have to take a Chemistry placement exam in one week, and I glad that I found you guys or else I will fail and have to pay for more classes in college.

Coming back to the first video to say that, as a Chem major, this was a great series for Crash Course. Shout out to Hank for doing a stellar job as usual. CC, have you ever thought of doing a series with Hank on Science History? A series where each video explores the life and accomplishments of notable scientists such as Einstein, Newton, Goddard, Tesla, Copernicus etc. would be awesome to see from you guys. Looking forward to whatever's next for CC!
Me: Sees 8 hours of video material about chemistry, most of which I might have to watch at least several times to fully grasp what's going on Hank: Please do not run away screaming!

It's meant to jam information and facts down your throat at the speed of 3 words per second. I think...

Coming back to watch this series again because this was the only reason I passed Chem and now I'm actually going to school for biochemistry!! This series made me love science again
The opening never failed to make me cry. The subject Chemistry is so underrated. And most people aren't interested in it and giving Chemistry a bad reputation because of 'Chemicals' . I love Chemistry :')))
I am currently working on making notebooks of notes from all of the different Crash Course series in order to gain a better overall understanding of each subject. I am starting with chemistry. Wish me luck!
Haha I do the same but I also try to use other sources (like Khan Academy) for my notes because one source is usually not enough, but it really gets quite exhausting sometimes.
I'm running through this course now for pure recreation; stopping, repeating lessons, and taking notes along the way. I really have to say that these are nothing short of amazing! Hank acts as a brilliant broker of knowledge between the worlds of academia and the layman. For me personally this has been as exciting and as accessible as my experiences with Brian Greene, Charles Van Doren, and Carl Sagan. The enthusiasm and humor keeps me fully engaged at a constant clip, not to mention the sharing of this information broken down into something highly digestible for the masses is downright inspiring.
Will the 46 part course just give me a good basic foundation in Chemistry so I can both understand the Natural World better and impress people . Not looking for his 150 math intense video on Chem but rather just the topics and an overview

I took Honors Chem as a freshman and just to give you some advice don't go beyond episode 30 in this series because then it gets more into AP chemistry stuff, unless you're planning on taking that later on. Stoichiometry is a big part of it so try focusing on that because a lot of the conversions you will be doing will rely on that. Good Luck!
I started training as a physics lab technician and have to take chemistry as well so I'm back watching the chemistry crash course again. I tried to watch through the chemistry course last year but had trouble understanding everything (last chemistry lessons in school were like 8 years ago and English isn't my native language). I'm gonna try get through the whole course this time!!
Well, physics is great for undestanding nature and the Universe, but chemestry will help you understand the World around you better, every single thing arround you has atoms and molecles and propieties and you can only undestand them with chemestry. Physics is more general, and it's better if you want to find a "Theory of Everything". But chemestry is the tool for studying more deeply specific things down to the individual molecules
I always knew this guy as a history teacher, but the crash course format works so well for all kinds of stuff apparently! The way he makes sure everything is well understood through definitions and clear language really helps.
What I remember of chemistry is my teacher making me memorize the periodic chart, and she never explained to me what the hell was the meaning of these numbers and symbols.
I wish that everyone who criticizes teachers becomes one. If you can see what they are doing so obviously wrong, go do it right. That's what I did, and I teach chemistry the way I wish I had been taught. Zero complaints, lots of love from my students.
I'm 13 but I've been watching and reading things on chemistry and physics for about a year or two. So when I do start chemistry it will most Likely be easy.
This guy is AMAZE-BALLS!! I spend two-plus hours taking notes from his videos. He gives so much info in such as short period of time. And he is entertaining. I get more confident in entering nursing with all of his info., So much much much better than textbooks by far!!
DANG IT CRASH COURSE TEAM! I should be studying for my American History test! Not learning new and intriguing information that is relevant to *basically freaking everything* on this planet.
9ssgoku Yeah, and I use it. But there's just something about learning for the sake of learning that makes it so fun. Not as much with learning for the sake of passing a test.
Thank you so much I love this series! Although I think this show would be even better if you gave us worksheets or something to practice what you have taught. Like attach a pdf link to some problems and review as we go along.
"don't take a break from school, because you'll forget everything that you learned." "you are making a mistake," they said. What I have to say to those people: No I'm not. I'm smart enough not to let myself end up like you guys. Not rushing through college wasn't your mistake. Marrying somebody you don't love, blowing your credit card, etc. were your mistakes. Not everybody has to rush through college to be successful.
I understand their points, but I get yours too. Personally I'll probably be forced to take a brake since there's deadlines for college applications and I'm having problems getting my transcript, but I don't plan on it.
I know this series has been out for years, but I think I'm gonna start watching it. Crash Course has a history of providing really useful and important information through entertaining and efficient teachers who aren't even real teachers. In ten minutes or so, Crash Course can teach you something it would take a week or more to learn in school.
I feel like I must take a test after Everytime I watch a crash course video in order to make sure that I understood and remember what I'm being taught.
BioChem sucks just take regular Biology and then Chemistry, assuming you can. (I took Physics in 8th grade and thought BioChem was something different.)
Cynical Trash even if it might have sucked for you, biochem is necessary for many careers especially pharmacy so I think a lot of us would find biochem videos helpful
I can't thank you enough! I really need chemistry in order to pursue my goals further in life, and I have hated it for a long time. Just as I clicked on this video and you started talking I decided to forget everything I know and start anew. I am motivated now. May the strong force be with you!

yassienE4935 real ones are watching now to study
Megan Marie I wish I had videos like this in HighSchool.
No, I'm in 7th grade and watching it for fun!
lol naw I'm just bored AF
Hank: there is nothing can let you understand the world better than chemistry
Physics: hold my beer
Well, physics is great for undestanding nature and the Universe, but chemestry will help you understand the World around you better, every single thing arround you has atoms and molecles and propieties and you can only undestand them with chemestry. Physics is more general, and it's better if you want to find a "Theory of Everything". But chemestry is the tool for studying more deeply specific things down to the individual molecules
I always knew this guy as a history teacher, but the crash course format works so well for all kinds of stuff apparently! The way he makes sure everything is well understood through definitions and clear language really helps.
The one who did the history ones, iirc, is John Green, his brother
lol first word's "please dont runaway screaming"😂😂😂😂
CRAZY BULL he says that often
Most American kids
Literally me
I did
i just straight up closed the window
That moment in life when you have to rely of CrashCourse last minute to pass the exam tomorrow.
could you guys please do a crash course on physics !!! PLEASE
Yes pleaaase physics >.
yes yes, this
They did
@@adarshtiwari4256 my friend these comments for 5 years ago :D the course physics is new :D
I want a stable relationship like the the number of protons in a nucleus
Your videos are really inspiring, whenever I feel like I'm sick of school I watch them and they remind me how beautiful science is, thanks a lot
What I remember of chemistry is my teacher making me memorize the periodic chart, and she never explained to me what the hell was the meaning of these numbers and symbols.
I remember lithium (I think that's "Litio" in english) I think it's the first one too lol. I ended up studying physics and maths.
I wish that everyone who criticizes teachers becomes one. If you can see what they are doing so obviously wrong, go do it right. That's what I did, and I teach chemistry the way I wish I had been taught. Zero complaints, lots of love from my students.
2:06 Atoms are just a theory... a *_science theory._*
Thanks for watching.
@Lucarrie +MatPat
so I'm going into chem next year so i decided to watch all the crash course videos to prepare myself
Me too
same here
That'd be me as well
I'm 13 but I've been watching and reading things on chemistry and physics for about a year or two. So when I do start chemistry it will most
Likely be easy.
And also me! :D
There's a Crash Course for American History too ._.
9ssgoku
Yeah, and I use it.
You literally taught me in 10 minutes, more than my science teacher taught me in two weeks about atoms
I feel like I must take a test after Everytime I watch a crash course video in order to make sure that I understood and remember what I'm being taught.
Why did the science teacher and the biology teacher break up? Cuz they had no chemistry
Wait....Isn't Biology a part of science?
@Ananya r/whoooooosh
Ishaan s but chemistry is apart of biology. Chemistry is apart of basically all of the sciences
You did not ...
@@ananya5564 she means feelings and love 👀🌝😂😂😂
Thank you Hank and whoever is involved behind the scenes. This is such a great help. More power!
crash course is the most awesome thing of life
That nerd who loves chemistry and watches this for no reason at all...
Not because she has a test on all of this in the next 12 hours....
That's me, though I'm a boy
I'm that nerd
i- why do i feel so seen
Im actually that nerd that watches it for no reason
And takes notes too
Thats me. And I'm on my journey in becoming a chemist soo
PLEASE make biochemistry videos
BioChem sucks just take regular Biology and then Chemistry, assuming you can.
(I took Physics in 8th grade and thought BioChem was something different.)
Cynical Trash even if it might have sucked for you, biochem is necessary for many careers especially pharmacy so I think a lot of us would find biochem videos helpful
YES!
Crash course is the best for my adhd. I judt randomly go "i wanna learn some chemistry" and here we go
lmao it's the middle of summer and i'm not even in school but i'm taking notes on these videos because they're so unteresting
i laughed at hanks opening because i came to this video to learn about chemistry
"the amazing and beautiful science of stuff" i'm so sold
I can't thank you enough! I really need chemistry in order to pursue my goals further in life, and I have hated it for a long time. Just as I clicked on this video and you started talking I decided to forget everything I know and start anew. I am motivated now. May the strong force be with you!
