Hello Lawrence, thank you for viewing our choking clip which is part of a suite of first aid clips from the Premium Health RUclips channel. In Australia we undertake chest thrusts only. The Australian Resuscitation Council (one of the committee members from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation) unlike USA does not advocate abdominal thrusts for choking. I've included a link to the guideline in the video description.
You need to apply abdominal thrusts from behind the patient if the back blows haven't worked. I was taught: 5 back blows (fairly hard), and 5 abdominal thrusts, repeated 3 times before calling emergency services. Frankly, I don't think you'd have much chance of survival with the instructions on this video.
Here's my main issue with this video. Back blows, unless you bend the patient at a 90 degree angle administering back blows becomes dangerous as the object can become dislodged, gravity causes it goes down further. While delivering back blows, if the patient loses consciousness they are now dead weight and the rescuer risks either going down with the victim, or the victim lands on his/her head causing head and neck injury. I know you're just teaching according to your protocols, but this just doesn't make any logical sense.
The technique for chest thrust from the front is totally against current techniques as per the International Resuscitation Council and is BAD PRACTICE. The abdominal thrust is the current technique and has been in place since 2010. Giving the chest thrust in the same position as for CPR, as suggested, could put the heart into VF, Venticular Fibrillation or VT, Ventricular Tachcardia and SHOULD NOT be attempted. If the techniques do not work and the casualty collapses this could dislodge the object or the muscles around the object may slacken off. Check the casualties breathing and decide on CPR or recovery position if breathing.
+Nicholas Worries I used that on Saturday - saved the persons life potentially. the tapping on the back made it worse for the person so we did the "Mrs Doubtfire" and it sorted it in one go on a lady in her 60s
Due to the risk of serious damage it has been removed from most of the worlds first aid training and replaced with what you just saw. Back blows and diaphragm blows.
I work as a Paramedic and as a First Aid Instructor training over 30,000 people in First Aid we are forced in Australia to adhere to the Australian Resus Council Guidelines my personal opinion is it is totally wrong especially the chest thrusts we did teach lateral chest thrusts but we can no longer
As an Australian, I couldn't help but ask... do you know any organisations that provide free first aid training? Ive been learning a bit about first aid and think it would be good to have a proper lesson but most lessons I've seen cost hundreds of dollars.
Important detail; If the person has food in their throat/mouth, give them a moment to spit/puke it out again, without too many people standing around. You need people *nearby* not people around the victim. I often choke on food, because I'm a greedy idiot and most times the person came very close to my face and shouted; 'ARE YOU CHOKING AND DO YOU NEED HELP?' or tried holding my arm tightly while I coughed and hitting me on the arm or back without any need for it, thereby preventing me from being able to spit it out or cough properly. Give them a chance to turn around with un-elegantly spit it out 'in private', while you stand and wait.
Pray during giving first aid and you will see what God is able to do. Because when every possible man's best way don't do it, the patient will need the prayers more than everything else. God bless you for the video.
I have never choked before but I have coughed a lot on water I mean who. Haven’t Ben coughing on water or chokeing On water I have seen my baby cousin almost chokeing it was very qouik so he al most choked but he didint but my other cousin dealed with it I she didint do the himlect tho p.s.sorry if I spelled something wrong
What is your source for this? From what I have read there is a lot of disagreement about the “best” management for choking due to the lack of empirical research.
Stick to the "J " Method, or otherwise known as the sub-diaphramatic abdominal thrusts, otherwise known as the Heimlich Maneuver. Reserve chest thrusts for bigger or pregnant people. This made up chest thrust maneuver standing against the wall is crazy. It is not nearly as effective as abdominal thrusts. Having done it 6 x to others in 25 yrs I can attest to it working when all else was failing,
911 is only US. This is an Australian Video. They do say in the video if you can't clear the obstruction easily to call for emergency services, which in Australia would be 000
"maybe dont put ads before first aid videos i dont need a blinkist ad when my gran is choking on a piece of chicken"

Do you live in Las Vegas, Nevada?
If yes, will you please call and/or text Scott at (702) 503-8530. And again, thank you.
I agree. I was taught in nursing school this way. The video isn’t very good in my opinion
I'm watching this cause my son died from choking and watched this to learn incase of another emergency. I was helpless...I'm sorry son.
May Allah bless his soul.

Saeed Baig I teach with CBD college. Accredited training $99.
Lozpeter Jonesbickerton Thanks I'll check it out.
Only do chest thrusts if the patient loses consciousness, is on the ground, or is too big for you to get your arms around their stomach

Raising the left or both arms helps also.

nicely done.

Dear premium health
Heimlich meinuver is easiest and best applied method...
What is your source for this? From what I have read there is a lot of disagreement about the “best” management for choking due to the lack of empirical research.
1:05 the look on her face XD
OMG LOL
this literally just happened to me i couldnt breathe speak or cough and no one helped me
are you dead now? omg
sweet sugar wtf
The back blows were so hard like she said 🤣
So my kung fu training should help with this.

I can't cover hardcore. I can't cover strangers. They don't even know my real name & date of birth or even what I look like
God love them 🙏🙏
is really helpful
ask em "are you choking" first. ROFL
im pretty sure you put their hands on a wall not a table
i never choked or seen sum one choking 0o i wonder if that can even happen
I was watching this tutorial to help and my brother and he died when the intro ended
WBK_Swayシ I hope this ain’t a joke 🥺🙏🏽🕊
Erica Larose it is I was just saying because the intro was kinda long
No
Londyn
That was hard to watch. Maybe it works but it looked like witchcraft. I like the Heimlich maneuver.
Your not suppose to give someone back blows you give them the Heimlich maneuver
The first thing that should be done is call 911
911 is only US. This is an Australian Video. They do say in the video if you can't clear the obstruction easily to call for emergency services, which in Australia would be 000
Except that this video is Australian and 911 will do sweet FA
Do the Heimlich Maneuver. Sub-Diaphramatic thrusts. This is bad training and won't work!!!
Apples are deathtraps
LMAO !
That’s so sad your sin died
