    Prison seems like a great way to turn criminals into hardened gang members...

      It's so fucked up.
      Go to prison for a hate crime, come out an aryan brother... How the fuck is that supposed to help anyone?

    • @seanwalsh5717
      @seanwalsh5717 6 лет назад +78

      A criminology prof once told me all of this is due to the US states severely cutting funds to prisons in the 1980s, which lead to so little staff, so little food, and so few programs for prisoners that the prisoners (a) had much less to occupy them (fewer ed programs, hobby programs, etc), (b) had much less oversight by guards and social workers, and (c) had less food (making prisoners need to hustle for enough food). So as a result the gangs took over the prisons and made it what it is today. Penny wise, pound foolish.

      Prison reform should be a high priority for all people, since so many people would be helped by it (everyone would benefit, really). Many Americans, unfortunately, have little empathy for prisoners, and feel that punishment (rather than development and growth) is the purpose of prison. I wish we had the will as a society to make the changes you are passionate about.

      Sean Walsh My experience of prison is along the lines of a recent article that I read by an ex prison governor (posted somewhere on twitter) 90% are candidates for rehabilitation but the other 10% are right where they're supposed to be.

      Hi sean
      I made a comment on another channel about the loss of human rights for prisoners on solitary confinement/ no window. etc I only had bad Sh**t from Americans who as you remarked have a very different view on Human rights. I understand they don't represent everyone but the only comments which came thick and fast was that they had zero interest in the Universal Declaration of human Rights and prisoners. I confirm everything you wrote. So much for democracy

      Don Lalo: Good decision: Akin to a stock trading teacher, his success is mentoring, not battling the big boys. You can teach the realities of life: If you apply dignity, decorum, and etiquette, trained from the heartland of the royal vicinity and hours with my nose glued to a spiritual book, *does not guarantee the attack dogs in regular society will respect you.* Just like the Verizon CWA 1109's call center union in Brooklyn, they take advantage and employ their discriminatory psychological and verbal "shot calls" in the call center in order to drag down their own brother's reputation. This is a form of a gangland situation: destroying lives and families livelihoods. This is how I perceive this organization, just as destructive as an adversary.
      Teach the youth that they must do something. Stand up -- or bend over!

      Alex B It is.
      I only got out a year ago and sadly most of the people on my wing would've struggled to hit 70 on an IQ test.

      Iamyouonlydifferent I have a friend that was in prison in Arizona and has done our UK prisons and he reckons they're not that different.
      He reckons that much of what we hear is myth and legend.
      It's all subjective. He was the tattooist for all the gangs there. I've never seen prison tats as good as what he can do. Maybe because of that he had an easier time if it. Who knows.

    • @user-ru8ll2os8i
      @user-ru8ll2os8i 6 лет назад +5

      Iamyouonlydifferent you're implying that our prisons aren't full of druggies, terrorists and murderers. Our way of life is different but our prisons are still riddled with scumbags.
      Though our prisons are worse, Imams (not prisoners, completely free and can leave whenever they wish) commonly lookup new inmates so that they can relay any information to prisoners such as "Islamophobia" or not being Muslim. If you're in our prisons there's only four ways to survive, convert to Islam and become a bitch, become the lowest bitch and be the beating bag/scapegoat, be widely popular among the prisoners (online comedians etc) or fight and spend the entire time in solidarity confinement.
      Sources: I know 1 ex prison guard and 3 ex inmates.
      Before anyone mentions it, no I'm not hating on Islam but our prisons may as well be Middle Eastern since Islam *is* what makes our prisons dangerous.

    I was at Santa Rita at the same time and my partner Stan gave me a little schooling on a similar deal. I got a new cellie that was in for having sex with a 17 year old girl. So I told him to roll up, he ran the story to me. He was 24, she was 17 and it was consentual. Remember the classes they used to make those guys take? We were all straight up criminal's,vin for robbery and attempted murder, we took pleasure in running chomo's and rapists off but this dude truly loved this girl, she couldn't visit but they were together. So we gave him a pass. I had a 70 number, Stan a 52. I owed Colorado 16 so did my flat five for car theft and paroled up there to finish my time. Been out for 23 years now. Arizona taught me a lot, when I drove up to Colorado I was ready to step up and cruise through that. Your stories are interesting.

    Hey Shaun! Joey from Tucson here! I always wondered how you managed to escape being extorted into some kind of drug entanglement whilst being incarcerated. That New Times article was some sensationalized shit. I remember it being dropped into my lap and some people who never knew you but now fancied themselves your competition telling me I had to run for my money. It never worked. I’m glad I’m out of the life and have been helping felons get into the allied working force, getting their fingerprint clearance cards and rights restored. Listening to your stories I actually had a nightmare about being falsely accused but found guilty.. LOL. Damn I feel great when I wake up realizing all I have to do is go to work and be cool. Be cool man,.. Oh yeah I will say our country being the U.S.'s attitude towards non violent criminals by putting them in with animals should be condemned by the world as a human right violation.. Gang Life is NOT FOR EVERYONE!. It takes a certain mentality. The ability to read body language. An also the ability to read between the lines of a conversation. Some are naturals. Others have to learn. If you have these qualities then my suggestion is use it to move up in normal society. Feed yourself or your family. Its a Gift. Not something to abuse. I had to learn the hard way. An do many years instead of being the Man for a company or whatever I wanted. Instead of being part of a Prison Gang. Im older now. An in retrospect I realize I fucked my own off. I still in good standing. But know all those years slid by. With nothing to show for it. Don't waste your time....

    I spent 2 years in prison in Arizona at Saguaro Prison. I was moved there due to prison overcrowding in Hawaii. I got a five year sentence. I spent one year in jail in Honolulu until I was sentenced. Then they moved me to Halawa. (Pronounced Ha lava).I spent two years in Halawa. It's mostly Pacific Islanders. No Aryan Brotherhood. No black gangs. Very few white, very few blacks. Mostly Hawaiians and Samoans and other Pacific Islanders. I grew up on the Mainland of the United States. I heard a lot of stories about what prison would be like. Prison is a bit different in Hawaii. Even in Arizona I was locked up with Hawaiians.

      Unless he was wrongly accused of course... happens all the time. Happened to someone I know... got 5 years, not sure how he survived because the one thing you can't be in prison is a rapist or chomo... you can be a rat before that. One guy got a lock in a sock and split a guys head open, because his wife was 16, even though in their state it was legal... didn't matter... people don't care.

      @@dernvader6876 I was in a road rage at 42 yrs old stoped the guy he talked shit so I hit him once... cops came I have a past with violent crime all with grown men but since I was young. I always am well respected at 6'4 280 tattoos neck to feet and have had to put in work on real proven molesters and I attorney up and my charge going in was child cruelty great bodily injury possible death. Hit him once he was 17 and half with a beard. No one would believe me I fought off rape and didn't sleep till court hurt some young guys who were told to handle me. One for life. I went to court got my discovery showed the shot caller then beat hiss ass and bailed out. Got a simple battery. The rules are fucked up and people like the violence. It starts with the guards and trickles down. I saw a guy who got a duo with his kid in car get child endangerment and blew a .09 rolled by all his own car till he died. Something everyone may be guilty of after a dinner out. There use to be court when I was young and we weeded out your friends case. That's not our enemy. The dad who preys on his daughter. Him he is scum and gets handled. Everyone now watches to much you tube and havent been there so shouldn't give there opinion. Sorry about your friend I know how it feels to have all that hate and energy ruin you mentally and physically
