This is stronger than TDPDH, it has that old school Facelift sound, with Dirt influence. Now the Duvall era has three albums, matching the original Chains albums excluding bootlegs, EPs. Amazing band, there's a reason they are my favourite band. I really like Duvall's voice. He adds his own nuances, there will never be another Layne. I can't stand AiC "purists" bashing Duvall or the guys continuing. Would you rather they just didn't make any more music? Grow the fuck up all of you. If you don't like this reformed AiC then don't listen to them. Simple as.
Eoin Byrne the way i see it is, the Staley-era and Duvall-era Chains are two different bands. I dont really like Duvall singing the Staley era stuff but the new stuff absolutely kills. I'd happily go to a Chains show and see an entire gig of stuff from the Duvall era.
@@propjoe1060going next week to see them...I don't like the concert footage of him singing Layne era but will give him a chance when I go...maybe it will be different with a live ear...
Who in the heck were all the people shitting on this album when it was first released? Saying it was boring? Everything I've heard so far(The singles, Fly, Red Giant, Drone, Rainier Fog) has been absolutely killer!!
Rare band to lose one like Layne and recover from that devastating loss of his stature. Jerry was the other half of AIC in my opinion and has definitely shown how influential his place was in this band. They picked the right replacement for Layne (R.i.p). Not an easy position to or shoes to fill for damn sure. Nonetheless still my absolute favorite band then and now. Huge Cantrell fan of all his original albums on the solo level. He is a signature guitarist that plays from his heart and soul.No fakery whatso ever. Deep admiration for his genius.
Absolutely, Jerry was clearly the other half or body of AIC, even early on in Sap and Jar of flies where Layne (r.i.p) was already struggling hitting ground heavily, I mean, I think AIC became in spirit the biggest Art conception holding the originality stamp of the Seattle arena, because of Layne, but without him, Cantrell and friends would still have been a Big band in the Grunge era.
There are many pieces of "Laynes spirit"that bleed through the lyrics and riffs....so glad Jerry made decision to forge on..after many lonely years without my drug of choice.....
This album is Grunge, all grown up. You can tell they have grown intellectually. Stills kicks ya ass, but it also has more intricate structure to it, a little slow paced, at times, but it keeps it interesting, nonetheless. Heavy riffs, and nice guitar solos. This is kinda everything I look for in music.
Peanut butter and jelly. You can not improve on the absolute best classic. You turned a tragedy, into carrying on one of the best sounds in history. Thank you.
It's a masterpiece ... the songs brings to my mind some stuff deja vu of some differend record of differend bands ... 0:00 Black sabbath 0:21 Pantera 0:44 Soundgarden 2:44 Days of the new
Whoa. This hits me between the eyes .There would normally be some lyrical de-cryption process. But I really think "I get it" . THANKS AIC ! One of the baddest bands to EVER do it.
Saih Oussama That's immediately what I thought when I heard the opening riff! It sounds like something from Black Sabbath's 13 album and that's NOT a bad thing! 🤘
I have to say that my girlfriend and myself were drinking recently ans we tried something different when it came to choosing the music we listened to. We each took my phone and looked up a band on youtube and then the other persom had to choose a song to listen to. Well when i chose Alice In chains i expected other songs but she chose this one. DRONE. I fell in love all over again :)
The bluesiness and melody almost reminds me of "Put You Down" from the classic Facelift album fused with the pacing of "Swing On This" from Jar of Flies.
You have to listen to the entire album! Can't explain but it is totally off the hook!! I can't stop listening to it and it's 2019. Don't get me wrong, Facelift is the sh**t too.
This strikes me as Jerry suffering with moving on with the band -- wo Layne -- yet nothing fills the void he left. They had a symbiotic, "beyond physical" relationship, and now that he's gone (and the manner in which he chose to leave), Jerry is nearly consumed with anger over it all, and struggles with how to deal with his internal, ever growing "pet black hole." He's just going through the motions at this point. #prayforJerry
They still have that ballsy sound even without laynes voice I agree with what someone else said that layne era and Duvall era are two different bands but you gotta have an open mind to it. It’s still Alice In Chains. I think the difference between Duvall is that Duvall doesn’t have as fat of a voice as layne did but he still has a sweet voice in his own right. You can almost here though how much fatter the sound would be with those dirt era layne vocals haha
Billy Bruner III this is what I meant /watch?v=rP0ceER0Wio. The song was released in 1993. Cantrell wrote the music for this and even appears in the video around the 2 minute mark. This onw sounds more like Facelift than the Dirt stuff.
It's just both AIC and Soundgarden have strong Sabbath influences too. That's why some songs sound similar. This AIC song in particular sounds to me like "Damaged Soul" by Sabbath (someone here mentioned it before me).
This is Alice in Chains's hardest slowest song they have ever done. It is a rarity to find one hit wonder songs of hardcore nature with a slow pace. In fact I can only think of a couple others I have ever heard, Metallica's Dream no more is one of them. Congradulations Alice in Chains on this wonderful one hit wonder. I only enjoy 3 or 4 songs from your new album, and this is the top one, besides an altered version of Red Giant by some one who slowed the pace and braught out some unertones in it. Alice in Chains is my favorite band, but I have to admit, that each time they have a new album come out, it seems they get softer and softer and have less hardcore songs in their albums. Perhaps it comes with age, but I hope this message reaches them, and they become aware of this issue, in hopes to pick back up the hardcore pace. And as a fan, I hope to speak for the majority, that we would love to hear more hard rock slow paced songs in the future. Thanks Alice in Chains, and keep up the good work! (The new lead singer is better than the old one too, except in them bones!)
This is by far their strongest album since reforming. And I fucking loved their last 2 albums, so..
Their last album was way stronger imo.....this is a great album though.
Agree 100%, best album they’ve done with Duvall. Honestly might be in my top 3...

Tell me about it!
Great album. Reminds me a lot of their stuff from the 90s
The same people hating everything without Layne.
The same people who hate every single thing out there thats who lol
It wasn't you or me , that's enough.
Good music is not for everyone i guess.

I wouldn't necessarily say he was the other half. Sean Kinney is definitely somewhere there a big part of AIC
This album is an absolute masterpiece
It seriously is. It’s easily the best album I’ve heard in the past 5 or so years. This song is ridiculously amazing!
weakest album imo. Not nearly as good as dinosaurs.
Queensryche's Chris Degarmo plays acoustic guitar on this track.
True... but no one can hear it.
That's amazing. You do hear it on the bridge
That's awesome
There are many pieces of "Laynes spirit"that bleed through the lyrics and riffs....so glad Jerry made decision to forge on..after many lonely years without my drug of choice.....
Jerry wrote most of the lyrics.

This isnt grunge.
Love the way Sean Kinney’s drumming plays to Jerry Cantrell’s guitar
And I thought that "Red Giant" was a killer song... My God this is so perfect!! Those voices, riffs, drums, bass... Perfection!!
Peanut butter and jelly. You can not improve on the absolute best classic. You turned a tragedy, into carrying on one of the best sounds in history. Thank you.
Well put, well said
Such an INCREDIBLE song. So much swagger. One of their best, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm really liking the effects and fuzzy distortion on the bass and guitars in this one
Really dig this one. Its a classic one for me already! ...
Loving the bass...Inez!
Anok Stone as dirty it can get!
This album rolls it back. Like a group newly formed in the beginning of success. A rebirth of the soul
Loving Chris DeGarmo playing acoustic in the middle of this song!
This song is a perfect blend of old AIC, Degradation Trip, and new AIC. Wow, just wow.
It's a masterpiece ... the songs brings to my mind some stuff deja vu of some differend record of differend bands ...

2:44 Day's Of The New is exactly what I thought when I heard it too.
Whoa. This hits me between the eyes .There would normally be some lyrical de-cryption process. But I really think "I get it" . THANKS AIC ! One of the baddest bands to EVER do it.
Do tell, what does it mean to you?
Easily my favorite song on the album. I love this band.
Can't stop listening to the album and it's 2019. It's been a month straight every day. Classic!!
black sabbathy, i like it
Reminds me a lot of Damaged Soul, too!
Saih Oussama That's immediately what I thought when I heard the opening riff! It sounds like something from Black Sabbath's 13 album and that's NOT a bad thing! 🤘
In case you didn't know Ozzy himself chose their debut album Facelift as his second most favourite album ever
Yeah, one of the most Sabbath-ish AIC songs...love it.
yea I'll stay home and feed my pet black hole absolutely amazing
I have to say that my girlfriend and myself were drinking recently ans we tried something different when it came to choosing the music we listened to. This has a blues feel to it.
The bluesiness and melody almost reminds me of "Put You Down" from the classic Facelift album fused with the pacing of "Swing On This" from Jar of Flies.
2020 and Jerry has me hooked. I would love to have heard Layne sing this.
Absolutely love this song and the whole album...
The bass
It's funny that know one picks up on a bit of QUEENSRYCHE feel to it. I Can definitely hear it. Maybe Chris Degarmo had something to do with that 🤘
He did :)
Love hearing Chris DeGarmo on this song.
Interesting one. I haven't heard the album yet. I really dig the vocals as always, and I dig the heavy blues thing they're doing.
You have to listen to the entire album! Can't explain but it is totally off the hook!! I can't stop listening to it and it's 2019. Don't get me wrong, Facelift is the sh**t too.
Chris , nice to hear You again We all miss You.
This song has Mr DeGarmo from Queensryche on it. I was surprised to learn that.
It's nice to hear the famous Chris De Garmo once again.even for a short moment.one of the best progressive guitarist and song writters.
Yep. I went right off Queensryche when Chris left!
He already played guitar in Cantrell's Anger Rising on Degradation Trip, it seems they go back a long time.
Ya I guess DeGarmo is good friends with Jerry.....
@@jtough7499 Chris was Jerry's guitarist for a while when he toured Degradation Trip

Good stuff. This has an eery Lane Staley feel to it.
2:43 and 3:10...my God
absolute killer album !!
The guitar swells at 1:49 brings me to another world.
Jerry will tell no lies wont try and replicate what he had with his buddy yeah you guessed his name.. its amazing how far they continue to progress
This and Fly are 👌
And Red Giant...and So Far Under!!
Good song. Red Giant still my favorite.
Love Red Giant
This has a Swing on This feel to it.

Sounds like a B side to facelift. Good stuff!
Justin Mays or an A side to everything they've made...
Justin Mays A side. The Facelift B side went to Circus of Power. Watch Heaven and Hell. Cantrell did the music.

What a song.
tasty bluesy tune
Sounds so similar to Feel the Void by Jerry Cantrell
I'm happy :)
..."and feed my pet black hole"....love it
Dark and beautiful
The most beautiful nod to the song Lying Season from Dirt demos.
Tempo change, then "...and that's fine".
Bridge is simillar to cantrell's "soltitude"
I dont know why but this song instantly made me think of Cornelle
That's great. I love aic n I love flying drones lol my two loves, sweet!!!
praise Iommi
love this
Anyone like mad season??the riff reminds me of Artificial Red in some spots
U can sing the verse in the opening riff
Yea you can. Smoke poison consumed
@@MRSludgedude exactly
Mark Plavecki Note really. Its probably because both use standard slow blues tempo but other than that different tunes.
Very Soundgarden song!! Like it
and Black Sabbath
this is alice
It's just both AIC and Soundgarden have strong Sabbath influences too. That's why some songs sound similar. This AIC song in particular sounds to me like "Damaged Soul" by Sabbath (someone here mentioned it before me).
Nah, its very Facelift era AIC
Insane 🎼🤙🏼❤️
Has an Audioslave vibe about the riff.
Chris DeGarmo \m/.......\m/
Oh, this is just so fucking good.
Bad Ass ! Come to Omaha Nebraska! Awsome Group ! Keep Rockin You coulnt of got A Better Singer ! On the 2nd Come Back on ALICE IN CHAINS!
Thank you
Fucking amazing!
“I’ll stay here and feed my pet black hole”
Ranier Fog is spectacular.
Like this song alot!
Best album since Tripod!
Very "pig-charmer-ish"
This is the track that Chris Degarmo plays on! Fuck ya!!!
En mis ojos tú eres hermosa... No sólo en lo correcto perfecta espiritual...

It's like sickman, but less sick.
What's whispered at like 6:12 ?
I'd like to hear some Hank Williams
Killer song but they missed a chance to create a sick transition after that solo. Could have been so much better.
Leighton Kennedy i guess they should have consulted with you first. 🙄
