- Colonscopy Prep is difficult! Because of this, patients look for adivce/tips/hacks to make it more bearable! Unfortunately, TikTok has become popular to post advice which is actually very misleading or completely untrue. So I decided to watch some of these videos in order to explain why they are correct, misleading, or completely wrong.

That first one.. yes. I have had crohns for 11 years. Last year and this year I did apple juice and so much better. :) I’ve got it so down packed and on what clear liquids to use for protein through the day, I was almost not hungry the whole day. This coming from someone who usually eats 2200+ calories a day and 120g protein. I got about 70g protein in and maybe 1500-1600 calories in clear liquids that day.
Also.. a&d ointment. This is my best friend on my bottom when doing prep.
Also I’m a PA. I always recommend colonoscopy over cologuard. The other thing people don’t realize is only preventative testing is fully covered by insurance. So if you haven’t had an issue and have no colon cancer signs or family hx and above 45, most likely your insurance will cover the colonoscopy as a screening. If you do cologuard and it’s positive, your diagnostic colonoscopy (since it’s not a screening anymore) will cost more money. Better to just go ahead and get the colonoscopy in the first place.
Colonoscopy is the gold standard for sure. I've had 3 and I'm prone to polyps so there we are. Just do it. It could save your life.
Thanks again for really good information, Dr Cooper. I don’t think I’d check with TikTok in regards to a colonoscopy prep. 😊
I hope it helps dispel some myths. Thanks for watching Peggy and please share!
So funny to see your excited reaction to the last one. I can tell you're passionate about your work!
Cologuard results showed my son-in-law had colon cancer. They were traumatized! Colonosopy afterwards showed NO cancer!
I like your enthusiasm. Makes me want to be enthused.
Thanks. I like your support of what I’m hoping to do - provide entertaining health information that gets people enthusiastic about their greatest asset, their health!
What a Champ🏆🎉Merci you’re by far 🥇❤
I did Cologuard now i have to do colonospany
watching this the night before fasting day. Today I've been on a fish and white rice diet. Didn't know I could eat ice cream! Tomorrow is fasting day and the fun time with laxatives. Does the laxatives taste like Alka-Seltzer tablet in water?
I ASKED if I could put it in apple i JUICE and they said NO.
How about V-8 juice along with chicken broth two days before, and clear liquids only the night before procedure up until the day of?
If you’re having clear liquids the day before that’s what matters most. What you describe two days before sounds fine. But the V8 will have pulp and not be clear so can’t continue closer to the procedure. Thanks for watching!
I have to get a colonoscopy done Monday. I had a gluten free waffle this morning and was looking at the ingredients tonight it has whole grains in it. Is that ok? It’s hard to find just white bread for gluten free. It didn’t have nuts or anything.
Should be fine. The problem is more with seeds, nuts, skins of fruit and veggies, leafy veggies, onion. Hope the prep goes well. This is the hard part.
Is coconut water good to drink the day before the colonoscopy?
I fear it would be cloudy and therefore best avoided as it obscures our view on the other end of things.
@@MarkCooperMD 🙏
My doctor said coconut water would is good. They were probably assuming it's clear
your audio track is inaudible.
Many people wonder, “Can you eat gummy bears before a colonoscopy?”
Is the painful and if I do get gassy pain what can I take?
Not painful. My doctor this time told me to add simethicone gas drops to my Miralax prep. First time I’ve ever been told that and used it. Don’t usually have gas as an issue
New word for me , thanks ! 🎉 Poop Faries !
Pro tip: night before colonoscopy, apply cortisone where the sun doesn’t shine. Removes redness and irritation quickly.
My dermatology professor recommended a mix of 1% hydrocortisone + an anti fungal + zinc oxide for diaper rash. I don’t think the anti fungal is needed as much in this case.
@@MarkCooperMD since a weak topical steroid works alone, I think you’re right.
Colon was designed. Not evolved.
