      @@papadopp3870 I see here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_O%27Clock_High_(TV_series) that Quinn Martin made good on his promise to DF to use his music in his TV shows, then and years afterward. But I was never into the war genre so I never heard music from that show. Unless you dubbed the series episodes you must have a solid musical memory, since I can't find that show available on DVD. But if you loved what was pulled from DF's library plus what he later composed to score Outer Limits, you'll be even more amazed to hear what John Elizalde and Roger Farris took from it to produce Stoney Burke, a year earlier. That series is on DVD, and the sound quality is very good indeed. You ought to grab a copy while it's still in print!

    A classic from the Golden Age of TV. As a kid watching this, I would wonder where, exactly, Chuck was actually going when they threw him out of the fort behind his broken saber. A place in the middle of nowhere, Chuck is evicted and told to hit the dunes and don't come back... no water, no horse, no suntan oil.. WTF? On a more academic note - this series is a compelling look back at the American cultural mindset at a historic crossroads. The Vietnam War, still in the early stages, was beginning to be a huge and derisive issue for Americans as more and more kids were being called in the draft for their "duty" to serve there. And along with the increase in US Involvement, a major chasm was developing in US society. This gives us a poignant glimpse back to the beginning of The Culture War between those who saw unquestioning loyalty to the policies of US Government as one's patriotic duty and those who questioned the credibility of Washington Politicians and the sanity of throwing one's life away for a war of choice in which no demonstrable US security interests could be demonstrated. And, of course, Vietnam turned out to be a big lie that US Politicians and The Military Industrial Regime needed to sell. This is one way they went about it.

      Stranded!
      Stranded on the toilet bowl,
      What do you do when you're stranded,
      and you don't have a roll?
      To prove you're a man

    At roughly the same time that " NBC broadcasted Branded", Connors appeared on a few episodes of Goodson - Todman's "What's My Line." Clips from some of those episodes appear on RUclips. For instance, Connors sat in the guest panelist seat the night Branch Rickey of the Brooklyn Dodgers appeared as a mystery guest.

      There's a drawing of Alfred Dreyfus' sword being broken in the same way. I wonder if this show was inspired by the Dreyfus Affair, an innocent (French) cavalry officer drummed out and cashiered because he was wrongly convicted of treason.

    • @chowbok
      @chowbok 3 года назад +1

      Wikipedia quotes the New York Times about when it was done to Dreyfus:
      "To prepare for stripping the prisoner of his insignia of rank, the prison tailor yesterday removed all the buttons and stripes from Dreyfus’ tunic, the red stripes from his trousers and the regimental number and braid from his collar and cap. These were all replaced with a single stitch so that they could be torn away readily. The condemned man’s sword was also filed almost in two, in order that it might be easily broken. The Adjutant’s quick movement and apparent effort in breaking the sword was consequently mere pretense, as only a mere touch was necessary."

    • @BigWheel.
      @BigWheel. 3 года назад

      They're kind of thin swords, and at the time this would've taken place they weren't main weapons but usually held for decoration purposes with the intention that it won't be used often. Also they were largely made of fairly cheap poor quality metal during this time. I'm sure it's possible. Just might not be easy.
