I love all these movies but Rob Zombie made them truly brutal and more terrifying than ever. I love how Malcolm McDowell's performance was his own and not a Donald Pleasence impression. This was actually my favourite Brad Dourif role being so much more subtle than usual and genuinely sympathetic. Finally as brilliant as other performers have been, Tyler Maine was genuinely frightening and imposing with both his natural appearance and portrayal.

Im glad someone addressed how Rob Zombie actually did do this franchise a service with his films regardless of if one likes them or not.
Speaking of though, I LOVE both his Halloween films, and I have mad respect for you saying that you liked them, the second film of his especially.
I honestly find them to be criminally underrated and underappreciated, I never thought the films ruined Michael like some say, he was terrifying in the films.
Definitely my favorite Michael Myers ever.

I'm so glad you pointed this out because this is a part of the industry a lot of people don't understand. They compare box office (which is rarely the actual total cost of production) to the gross box office and call it a success or failure. HOWEVER soooo many projects are used almost at litmus tests to see where audiences are and how to tap into those markets more effectively with other projects. I've been in the room when those decisions have been made, and you'd be surprised how common that is. They know full well they can lose money, which goes into their dealings outside of net ticket sales, but ultimately, they can see the long term, positive results once they know the target and proper way to turn these low to micro budget films into powerhouses. I'm not saying they're always so insightful, but more often than not, these suits have some pretty concrete methods to make money in the long run. Even bad publicity is a great tool.

Resurrection was terrible, but it was never going to be the end of the franchise. H20 was far too successful prior to that. It didn't have to be Rob Zombie. Somebody was eventually going to direct another film no matter what. And yes, his 2007 film was successful. But his 2nd film wasn't at all. That didn't kill the franchise either.

I don't agree that Resurrection did what you say that it did. If 5 didn't kill it, nothing was ever going to, and because of Moustapha Akkad's declaration, it was never going to.

You know I just love how you say resurrection already ruined the franchise well for me personally no resurrection didn’t really for me personally Halloween five ruined the franchise and Halloween six H2O for me was a meh movie but it was OK wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad. Resurrection of course it has its flaws but for me personally I like it as a fun time waster it’s a fun film and it’s entertaining and I know I’m gonna get crucified for saying this but I like Busta Rhymes I like trick-or-treat motherfucker I like that I go fucking suck a dick. And I grew up in the early 2000s and resurrection with my first exposure to the franchise so I have a soft spot in my heart for the movie and it’s nowhere near as bad as the Rob Zombie films like I would rather watch resurrection over the Rob Zombie films. Because those films are just so bad and just so unbearable and just so unwatchable and it’s so goddamn annoying. But honestly though Halloween five was the start of it all like ruining the franchise because Halloween five was just a straight up terrible fucking movie.

A laughable send-off it was even she could have had changed if she truly cared, but didn't. I'm just talking about Laurie's direct death where she had to see if this man WHOSE CLEARLY TRYING TO KILL HER is in fact Michael (as if it even matters if it was a copy-cat because it'll still be self-defense) following the reveal that she killed the wrong person. Nevertheless, it was JLC's stupid story suggestions that led to that the writers took to heart. Oh yes! I'll copy-and-paste from a portion of my comment about JLC what I told this clown who has yet to respond to me: "Jamie Lee Curtis can't talk down on Resurrection when her lack of involvement is why the movie turned out the way it did. Maybe she should have taken on a bigger role and the movie would have been different. It was also HER idea to do have Laurie institutionalized and for them to do that ridiculous paramedic switcheroo to bring Michael back where she "killed the wrong person". Yeah, that was all her and those stupid writers just rolled with it. She's partially to blame for that movie's flaws and has no room to really talk down on how it turned out when her being in it more and not giving off crazy resurrection suggestions would have done wonders for the movie." Read it and weep. There's a video on here titled: "Jamie Lee Curtis on “Halloween: H20” and “Halloween: Resurrection” (2012)" which confirms what I'm saying. I highly doubt she "doesn't speak on it as though she's that embarrassed by it. I barely see her talking about Halloween II or H2O like that. She's mentioned Resurrection a few times over the years and the lack of constantly bringing it up is the case of it being a movie really doing nothing for her famous-wise and was only in it for a cameo, not that she's just absolutely embarrassed by it as Nick probably WANTS to believe with his ignorant self.

    • @anthonyclark9441

She asked for it though. It was a condition of her doing H20, when she realized that Akkad never wanted Michael to actually die. She wanted to be killed off in the next Sequel, and when they couldn't talk her out of it, they gave her what she wanted.

I personally love the Halloween Rob Zombie films. I enjoy the back story of why Michael was the way he was. Of course I'm into the psychology of why a killer is a killer. Nature vs. nurture? So that perspective to me was really interesting. In Michael's case in those movies a little nature ( something was already in him that was evil) but more nurture caused him to be a killer (his home life festered it)but I digress. I personally haven't watched after Halloween 5 the whole resurrection phase. I watched up till Halloween 5 and then Rob Zombie films then the trilogy later.
I was looking at the movies of that time. Hostel II, The girl next door, Captivity, etc. many movies of torture and depravity. So it doesn't surprise me that these movies were made at this time. Way more 'grittier'. Of course I love a good gritty movie.
I agree the revival of these 2 films brought Michael back to life. Great vid Nick!!!

It was a super contrast mess that ruined everything that made the 1978 movie what it was, clearly a style best suited for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, following a tired remake trend at the time that was ridiculous in and of itself. @@DevonteHuntley-mj6py Well clearly you have a different opinion than Warren above. That's all.
Also kinda worth noting that the reason it didn't go anywhere, is because that continuity ended with the second one.
No need to overstay its welcome, just first one, second one, series over. It was the first Halloween continuity to have a proper ending, since Halloween 6 was going to have sequel that got dropped, and Halloween Ressurection was going to have a sequel that got dropped.

    • @DevonteHuntley-mj6py
      @DevonteHuntley-mj6py 10 месяцев назад

@@Blotzwave Wrong. Zombie may have intended the continuity to end with the second movie in his series, but that doesn't mean it HAD to be the case. Dimension wanted to kickstart the series again and they weren't gonna let that be the case no matter what Zombie intended. They quickly went into development with the third movie which continued the second one, a written script too which you can find online: Halloween 3D. But it was shelved because Dimension didn't want to move too quick and from there the sequel just got scrapped and the series temporarily died altogether. But there was room to continue on for at least another movie and who knows? With some creative minds we could have gotten a fourth, a fifth, and even a sixth. Hell, Blumhouse's movies could have been tweaked and followed the RZ canon with Scout's Laurie rather than JLC's and Karen and Allyson could have been other characters not related to her given Scout's Laurie being much younger now. Story ideas could have worked to keep the RZ series going for a bit.

Michael says he sees her before his mother is even dead, so she's clearly not a ghost.

I love the Rob Zombie films. Saw both in theaters and just loved how artistic it felt. You can see a man truly letting his art breathe, especially with Halloween 2.
My main criticism is in Part 2 & it's Laurie's group of friends that, like Halloween 5 are just there. And the theatrical cut wasn't impressive for Halloween. His director's cut however I did enjoy. I do wish we got his original script version and the documentary he was making but he hated working on it because of Dimension. I love Malcolm McDowell in Part 1, but with a majority of Part 2 he was just very unlikable. Not even comparing it to Donald Pleasance because he was nutty in Halloween 5, but I just felt like Malcolm was overacting a tad.
Tyler Mane is a great Michael, visceral and scary. Just like Derek Mears as Jason and Jackie Earle Hayley as Freddy Krueger (one of the only good things about that film).
I'm glad Rob finished his story though, hate that both Halloween 6 & Resurrection ended on cliffhangers. Films shouldn't be TV shows that get cancelled prematurely because not enough people watch, screwing over the loyal fans who are now left hanging.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies will never be my favorite movies in the franchise. They will always be at the bottom of any franchise ranking I make if I ever make one. Now, that doesn’t mean that I am incapable of pointing out things that I may like ABOUT those movies, even if I’m not their biggest fan.
About your argument, I think you are correct, but I think there is a larger picture here. Halloween seems to have a legacy of finding itself in intensive care and miraculously coming back from being nearly dead. Let’s look at it on a chronological linear timeline:
1982: Halloween III, a movie that I love, damn near killed the Halloween franchise, until Halloween 4 (another movie that I love) brought it back to life and saved it.
1995: Halloween 6, a movie that I love, damn near killed the Halloween franchise, until Halloween H20, a movie that I like, brought it back and saved it. Remember, Halloween 7 was being prepared for direct to video until they were able to get Jamie Lee to return.
2002: Halloween Resurrection, a movie that I like, damn near killed the franchise until Rob Zombie brought it back in 2007.
2009: Rob Zombie damn near killed the Halloween franchise until it was brought back in a HUGE way in 2018.
So, Halloween has a legacy, a reoccurring history of damn near dying and returning time and time again.
So, historically speaking, I don’t think you are wrong about Rob Zombie saving the franchise; however, I think it is only fair to extend that same credit to Dwight Little, Steve Miner, and David Gordon Green. I think it is fair to say that if it weren’t for Dwight Little and Steve Miner, we would not even be talking about Rob Zombie right now.

The main issue with Zombies Halloween was, he took away the idea of nature vs nurture. Michael was raised in a semi normal household in the original and his nature took over to murder but with Rob, it was hillbilly heaven. Don’t even get me on his wife and the freaking rape scene. Zombie might’ve breather life into the franchise but at the same time he ruined the core of the original story. No longer was Michael a child and a “how could he do this” it become more of “well of course he did it, look at his upbringing”.
Plus there was no Steven Seagal.

To be fair, there's more to Michael than just why "how could he do this."
      There's also the supernatural aspect.
This aspect of him includes such things as to how Michael is seemingly indestructible, able to keep coming back no matter what, and seems to be field by some supernatural evil force.
Zombie never explained this supernatural in his films.
That aspect was always more mysterious to me than why he did it to begin with, so for that reason, I cannot honestly say I think Rob ruined Michael.
He kinda explained the why, but not the how.

So I definitely quite enjoy his first remake, but the second one just bothers me on an emotional level. The way Lori is portrayed is kinda rough, I know it’s more “realistic” that she’s like that after experiencing that level trauma but idk something about her seemed over the top mean spirited. Michael shouldn’t talk, even if it’s one word, Michael should not EVER speak. And Dr. Loomis is honestly kinda unrecognizable. Idk why he decided to make him a media shill instead of wanting to put Michael down cuz it’s the right thing to do. Also he killed Danielle Harris and as a fan of Halloween 4 I can’t abide by that. Also, not a fan of making Michael more humanized, I kinda prefer him to be more a mysterious killing machine with no real motive other than he’s evil. But that’s my personal preference when it comes to the big man. I do enjoy the points you made though, I now have a new channel to watch.

No one should trash anyone for their opinion. But welcome to the internet . The other day on a FB Halloween site I actually made the comment that Rob Zombie's Halloween reignited interest in the franchise even though I don't like the movie and I think it was a bad movie that divided a lot of fans . However because it was something new and totally different with Rob Zombie, everyone could not wait until that first weekend to see what this was going to be . Therefore it reignited interest in Jason Blum and the David Gordon green trilogy. Because Rob Zombie put it out there and made it profitable again and it is always about money and money only . Without Rob Zombie's attempt at rebooting or remaking whatever you want to call it there would not have been a brand new Halloween movie in 2018 that would do a quarter of a billion dollars at the box office . And Rob Zombie also got people talking again even though it was against each other because sometimes division is good when it comes to popularity and getting more people into whatever it is. Just look at politics these days 10 years ago nobody cared now everyone is a political expert if you divide the fan base which is very die hard the next movie is going to profit off of that and if the promo is good it's going to do really good.

    • @Dreamcultrocks

I also remember that video how Rob Zombie destroyed Halloween franchise. But I never thought of it that way I thought someone else is going to pick this thing up and make a movie that is worthy of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's what happened. Now that 80% that Halloween 2018 received that's not by Die Hard fans. It is done by critics critics but it also did very well on the viewer part of Rotten Tomatoes I didn't think they would do the unthinkable again and erase everything after the original because of the confusion. But they did a good job with the promo because on most opening weekends you had the choice to watch the original Halloween and Halloween 2018 back-to-back in the theaters that way it would come at the viewer as one movie I think it worked extremely well and maybe even better than part 2 1981 but I do have to agree 110% Rob Zombie reignited the overall interest from the Casual horror fan. To me I’ve always thought of it in this lens: the writers of the films prior was writing themselves into corner after corner after corner. The first two Myers films symbolized a duology and Michael was dead, but also that Laurie and Michael were siblings. The third film tried to establish an anthology but it backfired. 4 had to retcon the ending of 2, but the direction of this connection to Michael and Jamie making this family tree line. And then 5 inserted crap that 6 felt compelled to answer, and the writing was on the wall. If any movie saved the Halloween franchise I’d argue it was Halloween: H20. The Halloween franchise was sentenced to straight to video before Jamie Lee Curtis came back for a single film, so she thought. The ending of the movie killed Michael yet again, but now Resurrection comes back and retcons it again - but Halloween stayed in the theaters at least. By the time Zombies movies came out - it was refreshing to see a new take because it wasn’t retconning or moving from previous corners writers wrote themselves into. It was meant to be a standalone but studio wanted a second so we got it. And we almost got Halloween 3D if circumstances were adjusted by a mere three days.
I’m on the fence with this idea, because I think Halloween 2007 helped bring slashers back in the late 2000’s but did it save the Halloween franchise? That’s a tough call. Without Halloween - you can argue slasher remake craze wouldn’t have happened when it did. But I don’t think it wouldn’t have happened without it - the question is who was gonna do it first and when it would happen. I’d actually argue it did the opposite in terms of what the studio was hoping to do - but the studio was going to milk it if they didn’t run out of money with or without Rob Zombie anyways. But what I’m getting at is that both movies were critically slammed, and while the first one made a ton of money, the second one didn’t off reputation. So technically zombies films both brought back Halloween and saved it from Dimension Extreme damnation (the straight to video line of the time), but it also killed momentum of the franchise at the same time.
To me, the Zombie movies were a fluke. It happened exactly at the right place, right time. It helped bring back slashers post post-scream era, and ushered in the remake era. But in terms of what it did to the Halloween franchise - I’d argue it brought upon a whole generation of fans to the IP sure, but didn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things. The end result ended up being what the H20 timeline did before DGG reset it again in 2018.
Just my take - but awesome video Nick!

As much people may not like what I’m about to say but he did save it because of not the “Halloween” franchise would be just like the Hellraiser and Children Of The Corn straight to DVD releases. Halloween (2007) was a big hit especially at that time. He made Michael Myers scary again Tyler Mane did a good job playing The Shape and the same goes for Scout Taylor Compton as Laurie Strode. Rob Zombie brought Danielle Harris back to the franchise and I’m glad he did. Although I found it odd that both RZH1, RZH2 were released in August instead of October (especially RZH2) I still think they would’ve done Halloween (2018) level box office numbers and successful before Halloween (2018) was even a thing) I low key wish we got the unmade sequel to Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) known as Halloween 3 written by Stefan Hutchinson.

In defense of Loomis acting that way, you have to understand where the character was at.
He had spent a whole 15 years of his life trying to aid a murderous mental patient with no success, the patient actually got worse in all honesty.
Then, he escaped, and nearly killed him, Loomis came super close to death.
Remember that everyone thought Michael was dead, so Loomis, having barely survived Michael, now thinking that the 15 year long burden on his life was finally gone, had a new lease on life. The threat was gone, and now he can enjoy the fame and riches he gains from sharing about the deadly burden from his life that he's been able to move on from.
Of course, this makes him snobby, but as we see twords the end of the film, when Loomis realizes Michael is alive and is threatening Laurie all because of him, Loomis realizes the error of ways, and goes back to his old self, reading to put his life on the line to stop Michael and save Laurie.

Resurrection would’ve led to this series being a joke for years to come, had Rob not made his movie!

i think robs two movies are decent movies and worthy of there place in the franchise .
hist first movie i like the change up of micheals back story .
but the dialogue is dosghit robs greatest weakness his script writing .
and its a mess tone wise first half is robs movie second half is halloween 78 with rob zombie elements .
rob admits he wanted to do two movies with the first young micheal which what should have been done .
in his remake the smiths grove segment is rushed and has no time to breath .
its over stuffed and disjointed ,
    still a 3 star movie
halloween 2 is his movie his baby and it is awesome .
i love how its lauries story and her descent into madness and micheal is a side character if you think about it .
i like the direction they go with loomis .
its it perfect no the dialgoue is still weak in spots .
but its the third best pfthe franchise after 78 and halloween 4 .
but you know horror fans never want nothing new so its get shit on .
we are a minority but us halloween 2 fans exist and we are proud to love this movie

You’ll go no disagreement from me on either of your points, Sean. You nailed it

I wish you didn't need to feel the need to preface things with "I'm not trying to convince you". I think I get why you do it (I recall you did it when we disagreed about Chucky and the TV series), but the fact people get so anal about you having a diffent opinion is weird and off-putting. Like it's not the end of the world folks if Nick thinks a movie you like is shit and vice versa.

You’re not wrong about it not being the end of the world, but I wanted to preface with this video specifically because I didn’t want people thinking my point was to sing the praises of his films

No, I get you. Was just venting about how some people get too upset over movie discussions. But like I said I get you. Zombie saved the franchise from becoming DTV.@@TheLostRiverDriveIn

Look at Nicholas, defending trash movies as usual. How are you still alive and with a fanbase? Nothing wrong with taking the original and putting a spin on it, but to say what Rob Zombie did with his take being justified is just absolutely ridiculous. His style did not fit Halloween and he had too much cursing, sexual stuff, gore, everything that the original was NOT he basically did. That's like making a Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake removing all the stuff that made that movie what it is and you basically have the original Halloween in contrast: basically no gore or grossness, simple, and very little action. Furthermore, the remake only did well because it was part of that ridiculous trend at the time where everything was getting remade and it was just a popular thing that was of course going to make money. All of them did whether they were good or bad. Furthermore it was a trend that began ironically enough with the TCM remake from 2003 and the success that had leading to endless horror remakes such as The Hitcher, Black Christmas, Amityville, The Hills Have Eyes, etc. that thankfully ended with that disaster known as the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake by 2010. Sorry Nicholas, but RZH did not start a trend here. It may have directly led to remakes such as F13 and Nightmare since it had Michael who is tied heavily to Jason and Freddy as a horror sibling, but the trend was already in gear from the success of the TCM remake. I doubt My Bloody Valentine is the result of RZH, more-so just the remake craze in general. You're giving this movie too much credit here. I'm also sick of all the lies about how Resurrection killed the franchise. Not one bit. They still could have made a sequel, and we likely would have gotten one had Moustapha Akkad still been alive because he was not going to settle for some remake. Rob chose to do one because of the trend and so he didn't have to make a movie that was in line with the other ones and thus can make it his way in his style entirely. If he did do a sequel I can imagine he'd have to tone down some things and follow an existing continuity with an established lore already limiting him. But it just goes to show, Rob was wrong for the job and Dimension and Malek Akkad are dumb for allowing this to even happen which led nowhere because it spawned one sequel and that series was quickly put to rest afterwards. What a waste! Michael was too "worn out" to be involved in Freddy Vs. Jason 2? That makes no sense given how much relevant he was by the 2000s given the success of H2O and then Resurrection following it versus Freddy and Jason having only the crossover to break back bread with their popularity. Before the crossover, Freddy's last movie was in 1994 with New Nightmare and Jason X didn't really crack Jason back into the spotlight that much and even with Resurrection not doing THAT well financially or critically, the H2O wave was still there and thus Michael was the top icon here by the mid-2000s. F13 and Nightmare also had longer hiatuses between movies if anything those franchises were tired. But Michael wouldn't have been a good fit to fight with them anyway since he's just a guy with a knife and would lose instantly in a three-way fight. Also, Jamie Lee Curtis can't talk down on Resurrection when her lack of involvement is why the movie turned out the way it did. She's partially to blame for that movie's flaws and has no room to really talk down on how it turned out when her being in it more and not giving off crazy resurrection suggestions would have done wonders for the movie.
