Appreciate the encouragement. Only two & a half years into what I call “farm life” with my hobby farm & wasn’t ready for that at all but had to be done.
I opened my iPad to tune into your video and at first thought you had re-homed bandit…then saw Smokey’s subdued action’s and realized it was much more grave than a new home for him…and although you were trying to be as upbeat as you could be l saw the pain in those kind eyes of yours…my heart goes out to you and along with the other people here know what happened was really the only thing that could be done for the good of the animal’s you and Smokey have in your care….you are a good man with a huge heart and you are so loved by all of us. We trust you to always do right by your family and your animal’s.
When I first saw RIP Bandit, I was filled with all kinds of emotions. But after hearing you explain what happened, you honestly did the only thing you could. He could've turned on Adler and I can hardly type that without getting teary eyed. I'm sorry you had to go through that but you did the best thing. Sending hugs to you and Rae.
Good thoughts to all of you. As hard as what you had to do, it was the absolute right , responsible, thing to do. Bandit, who became too dangerous for livestock, was also too dangerous for people. He was no longer Bandit. To do anything else then what you had to do, would have been irresponsible to all living things, fellow creatures, fellow person, community, etc. It was not easy, it is never easy, nor should it ever be. In doing this right thing, you freed Bandit from his prison as a dangerous unpredictable prisoner, to a better life of the Bandit he was meant and wanted to be. He would respect you for that, and so do we. Don't worry about the videos, they will take care of themselves. Take good care of yourselves.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Bandit. There comes times when we have to things we don't want to do but it's for the best of everyone and everything concerned. You did what you had to do in order to keep animals and your children safe that's the important part. Nobody should fault you for that.
@@tammyaarons8297 Sometimes something happens with our animal friends that we don't understand and the only thing to do is to send them on their journey over the Rainbow Bridge either by Humane Euthanasia or by the way that Chad chose to do it. I don't even want to think what would have happened if the dog had bitten one of the kids. That would have been even worse.

My dad grew up farming and always had the belief that a person had a responsibility to the animals they care for, and sometimes it extended to being able to do the necessary thing to protect the animals or to end their suffering, no matter how hard it is to act. My heart goes out to you and yours.

Smokey did exactly what she's supposed to do...protect her herd! Sorry about Bandit but it is probably the best thing! An aggressive animal is no good for an LGD or around small kids! I’m so sorry to hear about the situation with Bandit. I know that put you in a horrendous position but you did the right thing to protect your animals. You also have small kids that don’t always understand boundaries and you can’t have a dog around them that you don’t trust 100%. As animal owners we open our hearts fully knowing full well that at some point in time we are going to face getting our hearts broken.

I'm so terribly sorry about Bandit! I've had a dog who's brain "flipped it's switch", a beloved family pet who attacked my then 3 year old daughter. We also had to put him down. Chad, you made the only choice you could have. You are in my prayers, as is your entire family. Definitely divert the rain water runoff from your roof. But you may want to consider having some go into rain barrels for watering a future garden. Just a thought. God bless y'all.

Thankyou for sharing this. Almost unimaginably difficult, but for what it's worth, no doubt you did what needed to be done & Smokey did her job as a LGD. Take whatever time you need & move forward- if it was me, I'd spend some quiet time with Smokey by your peaceful pond.
I agree. Smokey is a guard dog but she is also your pet. I always enjoyed watching you play with & love on Smokey. Spend some time alone with Smokey to reasure her of your love & trust of her doing her job. I thought she didn't quite act like she was herself, maybe she wasn't as happy about the change of location to the new farm. Maybe what I & others saw a a change in her was the tension between her & Bandit, but we didn't realize that was the problem. We all love Smokey. Take care of yourself & your family both human & animal.

Life can be so cruel at times, but you did what was necessary. I carry several scars from when I had to seperate two fighting dogs of mine. I learned that food aggression indicates lack of trust, and it is a deciding factor for most dog adoption agencies. You did everything you could, and there was no way of foreseeing this outcome. Be thankful for Smokey, she did her best too. RIP Bandit.
Smokey needs some Grandpa loving after this. She was so excited to see him when you were out of town. Bandit wouldn't get out of their way that day so they could have some time together. Sorry this happened. You made the right decision in your situation.

Praying for your peace of mind and heart with your loss of Bandit. My oldest son had to take care of a situation similar to yours with a dog he loved completely,he like you knew he had done the right thing but we all grieved with him as we will grieve with you and your family with love and the kindness you show your animals. Unfortunately real life is hard,but we know God is watching over you and yours and you have our respect and love as you go through the valleys and up the mountains going forward always.
So very sorry for the loss of Bandit and the trauma associated with it. For Smokey to react and protect Bruce to that extent, she also realized Bandit was no longer Bandit, he was an animal attacking livestock that she was there to protect. In hindsight, Bandit’s jumping and pushiness was a sign of territorial aggression and not just happy greetings. So very thankful none of the boys were there and that Bandit never lost it around Adler or Carter. You did the only thing you could. Thank you for being able to.

Putting a friend out of their misery is never easy. My dad was a hunter. He was hunting with his 2 dogs. He had a bead on a rabbit and didn't see the one doubleback. He was heartbroken and didn't hunt for a whole year. My heart breaks for you. Your family is in my prayers.

You made a tough decision about Bandit. As You talked about the situation, I could only think about Adler and Carter and their safety around Bandit. The animal instinct that came out in Bandit is something that you can’t risk around the boys. I had to make a decision to put a Cocker Spaniel down that bit my son in the face when she thought he was trying to take her bone. I feel your pain♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Bandit had a great life with your family. Much respect to you for putting Bandit down. We lived 40 miles from the nearest city, my father ingrained in my brother and I, an animal should never be allowed to suffer needlessly. You did the right thing by Bandit both mentally and physically. My dogs have a bark that raises my hair and turns my blood cold, I don't ever ignore it.

I had noticed Smokey acting “down” since she’s been there, but I chalked it up to maybe a bit of grief over leaving Grandpa and the goats… but now it seems more likely it’s been the issue with Bandit. I’m so sorry to hear about the situation with Bandit. I know that put you in a horrendous position but you did the right thing to protect your animals. You also have small kids that don’t always understand boundaries and you can’t have a dog around them that you don’t trust 100%. As animal owners we open our hearts fully knowing full well that at some point in time we are going to face getting our hearts broken.

I'm so terribly sorry about Bandit! I've had a dog who's brain "flipped it's switch", a beloved family pet who attacked my then 3 year old daughter. We also had to put him down. Chad, you made the only choice you could have. You are in my prayers, as is your entire family.
Definitely divert the rain water runoff from your roof. But you may want to consider having some go into rain barrels for watering a future garden. Just a thought. God bless y'all.

I agree. Smokey is a guard dog but she is also your pet. I always enjoyed watching you play with & love on Smokey. Spend some time alone with Smokey to reasure her of your love & trust of her doing her job. I thought she didn't quite act like she was herself, maybe she wasn't as happy about the change of location to the new farm. Maybe what I & others saw a a change in her was the tension between her & Bandit, but we didn't realize that was the problem. We all love Smokey. Take care of yourself & your family both human & animal.

Life can be so cruel at times, but you did what was necessary. I carry several scars from when I had to seperate two fighting dogs of mine. I learned that food aggression indicates lack of trust, and it is a deciding factor for most dog adoption agencies. You did everything you could, and there was no way of foreseeing this outcome. Be thankful for Smokey, she did her best too. RIP Bandit.
Smokey needs some Grandpa loving after this. She was so excited to see him when you were out of town. Bandit wouldn't get out of their way that day so they could have some time together. Sorry this happened. You made the right decision in your situation.

Praying for your peace of mind and heart with your loss of Bandit. My oldest son had to take care of a situation similar to yours with a dog he loved completely,he like you knew he had done the right thing but we all grieved with him as we will grieve with you and your family with love and the kindness you show your animals. Unfortunately real life is hard,but we know God is watching over you and yours and you have our respect and love as you go through the valleys and up the mountains going forward always.
So very sorry for the loss of Bandit and the trauma associated with it. For Smokey to react and protect Bruce to that extent, she also realized Bandit was no longer Bandit, he was an animal attacking livestock that she was there to protect. In hindsight, Bandit’s jumping and pushiness was a sign of territorial aggression and not just happy greetings. So very thankful none of the boys were there and that Bandit never lost it around Adler or Carter. You did the only thing you could. Thank you for being able to.

Putting a friend out of their misery is never easy. My dad was a hunter. He was hunting with his 2 dogs. He had a bead on a rabbit and didn't see the one doubleback. He was heartbroken and didn't hunt for a whole year. My heart breaks for you. Your family is in my prayers.

You made a tough decision about Bandit. As You talked about the situation, I could only think about Adler and Carter and their safety around Bandit. The animal instinct that came out in Bandit is something that you can’t risk around the boys. Bandit had a great life with your family. Much respect to you for putting Bandit down. We lived 40 miles from the nearest city, my father ingrained in my brother and I, an animal should never be allowed to suffer needlessly. You did the right thing by Bandit both mentally and physically. My dogs have a bark that raises my hair and turns my blood cold, I don't ever ignore it.

CHAD IM SURE YOU MIGHT NOT READ. I cried for probably 30 minutes listening to the news. You are a bigger man than I am. I am not sure if I would be able to do what you had to. It's a tough decision and you made the right decision. It is going to save the life of all the other animals in the long run. My deepest condolences that you had to do this.

I'm also thankful that you were there Chad to witness the incident and then unfortunately to do what you had to. While Bandit was wrong in what he was doing, I know you wouldn't have wanted him to suffer. ((HUGS)) to you all, to Smokey, and to Bruce also.
My heart goes out to you in this matter. I have personally witnessed this in a dog and so many who never had will not understand. You have livestock, your kids, and each other to look after A dog, even a pup that has somehow twisted around in its mind can be dangerous. You can love them but know they are not ok Smokey knew, dogs have a sense and she understood something was wrong. You did the right thing, many of us noticed Smokey not seeming like the Smokey we've watched grow up. She was doing what she knew had to be done, she had to guard her livestock. And I believe you when you say she had "had enough", and even if it hadn't been Bruce, I believe she would have still did her job, the LGD smackdown. I am thankful you were there, and only one life was lost. I've seen that look in a dog before, I dog I loved, and it broke my heart too. R.I.P.
