Oh my , I've watched a lot of videos and have just been glued to RUclips. This is one of the few that have really brought me to tears. Especially when the woman was asked what people could do to help and all she asked for was prayers. Such beautiful souls there in those hills.
This nice lady wouldn't dream of asking for help from citizens. But she and her family certainly need it. Hope we can help. Thankful they made it out. Her husband led them well.

The scale of the devastation was at a 1,000 year level which actually changed the geology of the area. No one foresaw the level of danger. Your conclusion is not only cruel, it is illogical given the facts. Try to inform yourself a whole lot better than you have.
Many of our areas were told to shelter in place unless we were given an evacuation order specific to our literal location (only small areas were initially told to evacuate). Then electricity and internet were lost and cell service in the mountain regions is often too poor to do more than text or call under even normal circumstances. During this event, many of us had no service at all.

There is no reason to have flood insurance outside a 100 year flood zone. If you do not live in these areas you don’t understand and won’t understand why flood insurance wouldn’t be purchased so PLEASE don’t put your high snd mighty judgmental hats on .
FEMA refused to certify our properties as flood risks so nobody in my part of WNC could even get flood insurance. Biden and Cooper left those people to die for four days. Then when the full devastation became clear, they are trying to walk away leaving the survivors holding the bag. People are still grieving, but insur** is a very real possibility if the government does not make this right. We are not Maui,

Three weeks after the hurricane, you don’t hear much about it anymore because that’s the way people are we forget quickly, but we can’t because these people are suffering greatly. Let’s give them free phones, free hotels, free cars and yes I’m serious because if they can give it to people who do not belong here we can surely give it to these poor souls.
I agree with you 100% on this. I'm a Virginia resident, but have stayed temporarily in NC, with my boyfriend. I've traveled to Asheville, NC 3 times, did sightseeing. I've rode through the area of chimney rock, & stopped in Black mountain. I'm heart broken for all people in those areas. You're very correct, they need free phones, motels, cars, groceries. I'm angered that Biden administration has given everything to ten million immigrants for 4 years. I know this catastrophic event shouldn't be political, but when the Gov't wasted disaster funds for people that didn't belong here,it should anger anyone american. I haven't been able to forget western NC & Tennessee, their state got hit hard also. 💔🙏 I'll pray for all of them.

I cried and prayed every day for a year after Katrina, and that was almost a thousand miles away. How much more with it being my own neighbors? I'm a little east of the destruction in the Triad. It should've hit us here and not the mountains. Who would ever think this flooding could happen at elevations up to 5000 feet or so? My heart is so broken. All I can do is give the pieces to Jesus. He hears my prayers for all the fine mountain folk. Lord, these are Your children. I humbly ask that you protect and guide them, and be merciful. 💔🙏🏼❤

Prayers for all, but a word of advice from one who found out the hard way. NEVER build a home on a river or creek bank. there is floods at all levels. This was probably a 100-year flood. I was caught in a 50-year flood. Never again.
Never go in the attic if the water is rising. That's how many died / drowned during Katrina. They never expected the water to rise that high & they were trapped!

They have experienced what many still can not phathom. It was an astonishing amount of water in a short period, our river here looked as wide as the Mississippi. Then came the 80 mph wind gusts, and microburst tornadoes. Trees 100 ft tall smashed like toothpicks. There was no warning, there was nofire rescue, power, phone, nothing. Stranded for days. It is a bad dream...no, actually it is a nightmare. Thankful to have survived.❤
Even if they had flood insurance which they don't there's no guarantee the insurance company would honor it. There's been cases of bad faith insurance and has happened in the past in Florida. Bad faith insurance is a legal concept that describes when an insurance company violates its contractual obligations to a policyholder by acting in an unfair or unreasonable manner.
