      Kelli, thank you so much for your beautiful compliments and great feedback! Hello Tempe! Yes, when it's too dry, the paint just sticks to the plate, and really, when it's too humid as well! But when the conditions are just right...the gelli plate magic is irresistible!

    Also wanted to mention that I watched another RUclips artist brayer-off her extra paint into a multimedia tablet in little blocks of color and then she uses those pages to print. I thought that was a really good way to organize a whole bunch of brayered pages.

      Vivian, thank you, yes, that’s a great idea! My experience is that the repeatedly bartered paper develops a texture that I don’t particularly like, so I appreciate its sacrifice for the process, I do appreciate your sharing that tip!

    • @VikkiReed

      Thank you! I love the rice paper, but this is HP Premium32, which is a heavier copy paper, super smooth and ideal for prints you want to mount to panel, or use to make greeting cards

    Is there some subtle unspoken technique to getting the paint to blend in these beautiful ways? It seems like no matter how I brayer, my colors fully mix and get muddy.

    • @VikkiReed
      @VikkiReed  Год назад +2

      That's a great question! I wonder if you are "over-brayering"...also, colors that are analagous (green and blue) rather than complimentary (green and red) are going to blend rather than create brown or muddy blends, and finally, I avoid cadmiums, as in painting or in gelli plate printing, I find they produce mud more quickly than other pigments. I hope that helps!

    That was great my paint stays on the plate? I am letting each layer dry but for the pull off paint?? Ty

    • @VikkiReed
      @VikkiReed  11 месяцев назад

      Hi, yes, let your layers dry, but not TOO long...I am just about to release a video where I let the paint dry too long and couldn't even pull the paper off the plate. The humidity in your studio is a huge factor in gelli plate printing. If you let the paint dry and then apply a layer of wet paint to pull the print, that should do the trick!

    There is always so much paint left on my gelli arts gel plate. I put a new coat on to get it off, and then paint from the new coat gets stuck too. I feel like I am constantly wiping it with baby wipes. What could be causing this?

    • @VikkiReed
      @VikkiReed  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for your question, I understand your frustration! There are several factors that could be contributing, 1) are you using heavy body paints rather than fluid acrylic? 2) what humidity levels are you dealing with? Both very high humidity and very low humidity will cause paint to stay on the plate, I find a “sweet spot” between 25% and 55% to be best 3) are you applying too much paint at a time? 4) are you working with a very large plate? I find that larger than 8” x 10” becomes challenging, as I live in a very dry climate…I hope this helps you! It can be so fun, but when it’s not working it is very upsetting!

      @@VikkiReed thank you for responding! I have some nice liquitex basics acrylics AND the cheap craft smart acrylics. Should I get liquid acrylics? Or acrylic inks? I have an 8x10 plate and it's currently pretty dry in the house because it's winter and the heat is on

    • @VikkiReed
      @VikkiReed  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@kirbierose2589 It is making sense to me that your paint is sticking. I use Liquitex Basics, but not on the gelli plate. If I am using medium/heavy body for the gelli plate, I use Amsterdam, and sparingly, for things like photo transfers and floral lifts. Acrylic Inks are too thin to get the kind of prints I like, but you can use them to get other effects. I tried the Liquitex Fluid Acrylics and could not get what I wanted, although I do use some of the Liquitex Soft Body. My "go-to" is Golden Fluid Acrylics which is frustrating because they have become SO expensive. Before you invest a lot of money, I would try a few of the small 1 oz. size...I just found a set at Dick Blick for $29.95, maybe a worthwhile gamble? Here is the link www.dickblick.com/items/golden-fluid-acrylics-intro-colors-set-of-6-30-ml/ I'm not connected and don't get a commission, just want you to find solutions so you can experience the gelli plate magic!
