I am half way through the book and finding it a bit of a slog and almost gave up on it until I found your video. In some ways the book plot reminds me a little bit of Sisyphos who in Greek Mythology was made to roll a boulder up a hill only for it to roll back down every time and he had to repeat this action for eternity - pointless work. Anyways I found the following books translated from Japanese into English far more interesting and engaging: The Memory Police, The Travelling Cat Chronicles, The Waiting Years, Sweet Bean Paste and Before the Coffee Gets Cold.
