- Sheetmetal Storage Rack - Metalwork Monday CNC Plasma Table
This week on Metalwork Monday we used some random scraps and left over tubing from other projects to build a mobile sheetmetal storage rack. This is in preparation for the CNC Plasma table we will be ordering soon. I may also store plywood, wood boards, and other lumber on this rack. Just some basic cutting, fitting, mig welding, and painted it a nice bright green lol. Leftover rattle can paint, crappy florescent paint job. This is the cart I was building in the Mig Vs Tig video. This is mig welded square tubing and can be used as a rolling wood rack, wood rack on wheels, metal storage rack, rolling shelves, and many other uses.

That will keep it all together and easy to find what your looking for. Well done Gary.
Thanks Jerry
I like that little punch press.
yea it's cool. I will have a project video on it soon.
Thanks for the video. I'm starting on one with a little bit different goals. Your video made me think about what I want in mine.
Shop looks clean and ready for some great projects!
Nice project, thanks for the tips. Pondering the same as I await my CNC plasma table arrival as well so appreciate the vid!
Great addition to the shop Gary.
thanks Greg!
Nice video, I really like that it is on casters. I definitely need to make one of these units and keep it closer to my shear (and then re-paint my scratched up walls where the sheet metal is currently leaning).
I like your welding table!
yeah nice Gary, I made a similar rack so that I can collect my materials for projects. 1 side for bar type stock and the other side for plate and sheet stock. I have about 100 feet from my storage to the workshop, so it makes for less trips, and keeps the shop a little less cluttered. however the skate wheels don't work for me either I have 8" solid rubber monsters on it. I do like the way you set up your casters outside of the footprint. Much more stable I'd think, and I like your center section better than mine. Good on you man!
organizing now that's something I ought to be doing. Nice build Gary!
Thanks Jim, appreciate it.
Nice addition to the shop Gary.
Thanks Bill
HI Gary,
Your rack looks great. It will be nice to store full size sheets along with partially cut ones and really nice to have close to your plasma table.
Take Care,
Reid
Thanks Reid!
Can't go wrong with green... I approve!
(For the sake of my visual sanity, please plug those holes up on the ends of the tubing! HAHA!!
No way! Those holes I left open so I can slide round bar into it for storage!
Nice! You had a full day. I think you put the cutting with the Ellis in the beginning just for me. LOL
lol indeed.. although most of my vids start out with the ellis... That thing ripped right through that 1/4" wall 2X2" tubing! On thinner material its not as fast as the chop saw, but it really shines on solid stock or thick material.
With all the metal work that you do it looks like pretty soon you will need a forklift to move metal and projects around.
Came out nice Gary.
nice project and up coming updates ty
Hey Gary" That cart turned out awesome buddy! And appears to roll nicely!
Thanks sir
Great job👍👍
Thanks John!
Looks like you are in need of a cement pad outside the shop in the near future... Nice job Gary
Yes sir, that's in the 3 year plan, complete makeover of the property, rebuilding the barn, concrete parking area and driveway, definitely a lot to do!
The cart looks great! Nice job on the vid.
Thanks Rino!
You should be a graffiti artist with those mad bomb can skillz
lol trui dat, had some wind issues.
Great Video Gary, you inspired me to build a shop ,I am in process of building a 24x30 from Mueller great building very well designed and heavy frame i would recommend for your wood shop and film if possible as there is no videos of someone building one and I could have used some pointers as this is my first metal building, thanks
Wow that's awesome! You making videos on it? If so send me a link. My building is also a Mueller building, but the installer have kind of done their own customizing over the years to improve on Muellers design, but they still use Mueller for all the sheeting, screws, C-perlins, they just fabricate their own beams.
Nice work
Thanks Michael
Hey Gary you have to do a review on, that sweet little punch press! That thing is Awesome man! 😜👊🏼😜👊🏼😜👊🏼😜👊🏼
Yes Sir, stay tuned, I will have a video on making a punch station using that little press.
awesome job! i really need to make one of these.
Thanks man
There may now be a bright green bird or two flying around outside your shop :)
Lol, yea i was getting more paint in the air than on the rack, it was blowing around out there, and the final paint job reflected it!
i like it gary
thank you sir.
You can get those free at Home Depot if you’re fast enough lol
Nice cart Gary. You might check out King Architectural metals (in Dallas, I think). I was able to get 4" steel casters at a pretty good price. They were labeled for 800 lbs each but I'm sure they'll hold more. I used steel because they dont compress under heavy loads so should be easier to roll around.
你的工作间好大啊,羡慕。
Sweet!
Nice mobile flat sheet storage cart, but it seems to me that the full sheets should have been in the center (heavier pieces centered and easy to select by just seeing the ends) with the smaller pieces being on the outside edges for easier viewing and selection.
good suggestions, thanks Roger.
Love this build. What table and clamp system is that?
Tab and Slot welding table I believe.... lookup tabandslot.com they have some cool tables that you can make yourself. Best priced table for the quality (of those I have researched and used)
Pretty cool. I take it you weren't going for a perfect paintjob. :P YOu might put some hefty center casters on it like a lowes/home depot style cart.
what, you didn't like that graffiti style spray bomb paint job? lol yea it as terrible... but it's green !
you do know these are free at any home depot.only caveat is that they are orange.
now that October is here do you still have your day job?
Dang, you got a good memory! Last days is 10/28... wrapping up a couple of projects for them, been there 10 years... Btw, can you PM me your number? Your in Dallas right, I think you gave me some steel place contacts before and I didn't write them down.
Nice! I recently built something similar. In the center I put shelves in the center section and put my tubes there.
What plasma table are you getting?
Thanks man, getting the trucut cnc 4X8 with hypertherm 85
Which model? SeriesOne, XT, or XT performance? Are you interested in taking on some custom cutting jobs? I'm local and need some stuff drawn and cut. You can practice on my stuff. If you need help to get it installed (grunt labor type help) let me know.
The SeriesOne for now, if this goes well, I want to buy/build and HD table, but that's a huge investment. Where are you located? Heck yea I am willing to take on any jobs you have. Prob going to be 2-3 weeks to get it up and running. Electrician says i am on his list, if he doest get out here in the next few days I will just pull the wires/conduit myself.
I send you a message. It has my email in it.
What are the dimensions of your workshop?
It's 40X80
