I am no engineer or anything like that but can anyone tell me why there is no powered undercarriage? I am so curious as it seems like a boat anchor in regards to efficiency. I would love an answer y'all
The reason they did't have powered undercarriage like today wheeled "smaler" excavator 6-12 ton was probably price and technical difficult, the X 41 is probably 40 ton + easier and cheaper to move without powered connection when the undercarriage is the trailer. The reason they did't have tracks form 1981 to 1988 was because of the Swedish Åkermans now was in command as one of the owner of the Brøyt company and did't want the "enemy" to sell tracked excavators. In 1988 Brøyt say f#&k it and started to make tracked machine again. Åkermans took it to the court and lost big time. X 41 was made from 1976 to 1986 according to Wikipedia.
@@SirWilkins This is completly wrong first of all The X41 standard weigth is 32,4 tons it could also get extra counter weigths so it would weig 35 tons the reson brøyt made excavators whit no drift on the wheels was too reduces cost and maintanenc and it worked out pretty well easy to move around after trucks and soo on but ofc not so efficent in moving fast on its own machine but would handel extream terrains and in 1985 when X42 came they started to make drift in the wheels so they had poclain hydraulic motors in them well but i dont know where u got ur numbers from but they are completly wrong åkermans belt restricion dident come before 1983 and lasted to 1988 then Brown engineering came in and when they bougth brøyt they tougth the old belt restricion was gone so they started making belt machines again åkermans sued them but lost
beautiful machine
