    I was fortunate enough to drive a Broyt x42tf in the mid 1990's. They are an awsome machine. When driven correctly, a Broyt will never push back when digging, no matter what it encounters, this cannot be said for an conventional face shovel from any other manufacturer. A 45 tonne Broyt will have the same digging force as a conventional machine nearly twice its weight. I went to a Broyt from a 974 Leibher face shovel, the Broyt would load a dumper in half the number of passes.
    The driver in this video needs a lesson in cleaning up and also needs to get his tracks right up to the stone he wants to load, starting with his bucket facing almost straight down.
    The second x42 i had also had a small pair of arms behind the bucket which were used to lift a 6 tonne steel ball for breaking over sized rock.
    Nothing digs like a Broyt !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Very unique design. I’ve never seen one before. It does the job of a wheel loader without all the maneuvering and puts all the strain on the hydraulics instead of a complete drivetrain.

  • @steveallarton98
    @steveallarton98 6 лет назад +51

    For the size of machine and engine power, they have a very high output. Broyt pioneered the design years ago and I think that they pretty much got it sorted ! Koehring built a similar thing called a Skooper, which wasn’t a success ! If you study the kinematics, you will see that it doesn’t waste much effort in loading, unlike a wheeled loader, which spends much of its time manoeuvring . This is quite an old machine and still working in granite - it must be tough !

    It looks like its maybe loading some broken oversize material as opposed to being at the quarry face where it would get a better bucket load each time than it is achieving but that is very impressive machine good video

    The one that ECC Quarries had ran on 2 steel spikey wheels and the other axle was lorry wheels, which didn't drive and it had to drag or push its self around, for long distances the bucket went in the back of a dumptruck and it then lifted the spikey wheels of the ground and was towed where it needed to go. i believe it was powered by a cat 977 engine.

      Brøyt was the product name for excavators from Brødrene Søyland (Brothers Søyland), Bryne, Norway. They were one of the first making successful fully hydraulic excavators. They had a big international market for their machines when they were at the peak, but then bigger international companies took over the market despite having inferior machines. Brødrene Søyland was just a too small company to take on the competition.

    Clever geometry and the retracting action before turning helps reduce the torque to spin the machine. I can only imagine what modern state of the art design to come up with. A conventional shovel bucket would go a long way assuming rock would fit thru it.

      It was proven to be the most effective loader of it's size. Small company loacted in Norway, too expencive to produce compared to the standard front shovels

    I don't know....how productive is this machine really? The design just looks a bit impractical.

      Needs larger pumps. It's lacking speed, bad.

      Actually proven to be the most productive loader of it's size, cost/ton/hour, back in the day. It was a small company behind it, located in the most expencive country, Norway, which made the purchase cost of the machine type quite high compared to the other front loader type produced by much larger manufacturers in lower cost countries. The Broyt went out of production in 2005.

      This machine was way ahead of it's competitors at the time, but after some years, they got passed by others who had quantum production. Kinda like Henry Ford vs Everyone else. So of course these machines were more expensive and became more expensive, but at the beginning it wasn't that expensive.
      The company wasn't that small, and no, they didn't went out of production i 2005. It actually ended in 1980, but in 1981 Åkermans purchased the company got new capital. At that time the production was changed too special machines, but at the end of the 80's the production once again ended, and in 91, VME Group bought the company, before they in 95 changed their name to Volvo CE. In 99, they sold Brøyt to Sandvik Tamrock, which marked the end of the production in Norway, and moved it to Finland. But the model shown in the video here, were still produced in Finland, until 2008, and that's the last and final chapter for Brøyt, or Brødrene Søyland. Their old factory are now and industrial park, where a company in the same segment as Brøyt is located, among other companies. The site is called Ree Næringspark.
      You can read about it in at wikipedia.
