I remember playing y for the first time and I was so exciting and thought the game will be really long because of the second gym Damn was I disappointed
N actually doesn't catch any Pokemon in his battles IIRC. He always uses Pokemon that are available in the route you are ON or about to move onto which means that he enlists wild Pokemon to help him. It's kind of a cool mechanic to preview any new encounters as your journey progresses.
It's hilarious being all like "We're going with X for this run because it can deal with the late-game gyms and when it evolves it gets this typing which is good against...", knowing full well the run is ending at Gym 2.
I would have loved it if, for scarlet/violet, you had already unlocked the fly spot for the second gym and finished at like 5 seconds total as a joke before doing the actual run 😂
The main reason that Meganium is bad in Johto is because Johto has no repeat types from Kanto and all the types weak to grass were in Kanto, pretty much leaving Meganium with no type advantage in any of the main battles for Johto
for some games, running increases encounter rate. for the other games, it just seems like it does because you're covering more land more quickly. when each step is a possible encounter, and you take each step quicker, it's going to seem like you're getting more encounters
Good point It’s the same for overworld poison damage in gens 3 and 4: it’s based on step count, but running’s faster speed makes it feel more dangerous. Which it kinda is since you might want the precise movement of walking.
I think you should do this again but with gameplay between gyms 7 and 8, since most every Pokémon game has its major story elements occur before the 8th gym!! This video was fun to watch and a super cool idea
29:04 Ah! That makes it impossible to solo Black and White legitimately. MandJTV forgot this detail when going through every games if it was possible to just beat with one pokemon.
HOOOOO boy, I knew I wasn't remembering wrong that there's a long stretch between the 1st and 2nd gyms in XY. Also, in regards to the EXP Share, I think making apply to every Pokémon isn't a bad idea, but the problem is that the Gen 6 games weren't really balanced around it. SM/USUM is a really odd case since the Kahuna battles are technically Trials too, but it's just a battle with the Kahuna and nothing else. Really, while the Trials themselves could be seen as closer to Gyms, it's the Kahunas that are closer to Gym Leaders. It's real complicated, that's for sure
I'd defend Black 2 and White 2 simply because there are a couple of areas that you're kind of expected to explore between the first and second gyms. The Floccesy Ranch and Virbank Complex have plenty to do for such early areas, including some story stuff in Floccesy Ranch. Your assessment saying there's nothing to do in that part of the game is simply misleading.
Teddiursa is the only non Bug with the Honey Gather ability, which also fits Katy's pastry shop. Still trying to figure out what's with Mismagius (other than Levitate) and Altaria.
I'd just call it power gaming. Tera electric Mismagius has no weaknesses thanks to levitate, and Tera ice on Altaria turns a 4x weakness into a resistance.
I just have to say that this a really well-edited video: nice job! I was surprised at the disparity between the first few generations and the newer generations
Actually I'm sure running increases encounter rates in HGSS, seen someone did a 100 encounter experiment for both running and not running to calculate average how many tiles to encounter a Pokemon, and running does make you encounter a Pokemon more often.
such a well made video! I'd love to see the gaps between the other gyms as well. Also that gap in XY is brutal lmao, it was my first Pokémon game and I remember spending weeks with only the bug badge because I could never figure out the Furfrou minigame.
Love the video! Not trying to nitpick but, while running doesn't increase the encounter *chance* (in FRLG), it will increase the encounter *rate* , simply because you're stepping on more tiles over time than when walking. This explains why it feels like you get more encounters when running, you're just getting them quicker! If you had tested while fixing the time spent travelling instead of distance travelled, I'm sure you would've seen significantly more encounters (in that time) when running. That being said, I think your test was more useful, since my deduction was only possible knowing that the encounter chance was constant.
This is how you know the Pokemon-RUclips space is saturated beyond help... "Can I beat Pokemon without using the letter T?" "How long to get to every 2nd gym?" "Can I beat the game with only my starter?" "How quickly can you get a berry in every Pokemon game?" "How fast can you find an item with the Pick-up ability if you only allow yourself to use shiny Zigzagoon with 13 speed IVs, 9 SpA IVs, and 0 in every other IV?"
I love the little detail at 52:12 where you play the zoom in on Meowth as you say "that's right." Which was 2/3 of Meowth's singular line in the original Team Rocket motto.
I was waiting for you to say that running gave more encounters despite showing otherwise. It made me chuckle, and i enjoyed the pokebusters interlude. Subbed just for that.
What I love about this, is that the 2nd fastest and the slowest for getting to the 2nd gym are both good games that people enjoy playing. Kinda showing it's not about how much you put between the gyms but what you do with it. Supported by the 2nd slowest and fastest are not particularly liked.
I have a theory for why some players may think that the running shoes gets u more wild encounters, Its becouse u cover the same amount of in-game tiles mutch faster so the wild encounters seem to be happening more often when infact they happen after about the same amount of tiles the caracter is just traveling faster so the wild encounters appear more often.
The first time I played X, my game file reached the 30 hour mark before getting to the second gym. I loved that section of the game, and it made me think the game would continue being like that 😂
The line "Ride on Rhyhorn" messed way too much with my sleepy brain because I heard "Rhydon" instead of "Ride on" and got confused since I was seeing a Rhyhorn. It took me a few seconds to finally process what was actually said and had chuckle about it. Anyway, interesting video, hope to see it turn into more of a series.
Katy has a Teddiursa because she's a pastry chef. Teddiursa is known for having paws covered in honey and for raiding bee pokemon hives along with Ursaring. Honestly just giving her something that looks like a bug would've been boring.
Doing at least 5 monotype runs of X and my times replaying probably approaching 50, I have gotten really used to the amount of time between gyms. It is very noticeable and gets really bad for some runs like my current fairy run, mostly because the time before the first gym is massively extended by needing to get a huge power azurill and evolve it into marill to stand a chance against Viola.
I’m 2 months late for this but thank you for naming the Chimchar after me i didn’t except my name to come up at all so i legit had to rewind the video. I throughly enjoyed the video i love your sense of humor when discussing the games.
Starting with a Chikorita makes the game the most challenging, who wants an easy journey? Using Meganium throughout your journey shows how much strategy you develop and bring with you into other games, including non Pokemon games. Always choose the weakest bc in the end, it makes you strongest and least predictable
I'm convinced locks are the most powerful things in all of gaming they stop: Link Mario, Kratos, Dante, Sora, Kirby, Batman, Superman Spiderman, soldiers, gods, Bayonetta, etc.
Yoo let's go! Loving this sequel, although I'm hesitant to call it a series because it just gets progressively longer every time. Also nice to find another wild Gen 6 enjoyer!
I dont understand how you're at 2350 subs because your content is great, your videos have exceptional quality and youre just a fun narrator. I suppose it can be frustrating to put so much effort into every video, when the results dont reflect that yet, but I believe more frequent uploads might help. If someone asked me to blindly answer where you would be at, I wouldve said 50k+ subs for sure. Hope my comment doesnt come off as belittling or too "backseaty", I would just really love to see you get the recognition you deserve. Love your stuff and Im already looking forward to your next ideas for runs/challenges :)
The toughest gym leader is a subjective metric based on people’s opinions and experiences not hard data but most people agree Sabrina is the toughest in kanto, Whitney’s the toughest in johto, Norman’s the toughest in hoenn, Fantina is the toughest in sinnoh, Elesa is the toughest in Unova, Korrina is the toughest in kalos, Nanu is the toughest kahuna in alola, Raihan is the toughest in galar and Iono is toughest in paldea (even though her bellibolt is a huge disappointment for I expected it to be the new Whitney’s miltank)
Fun video. Though, I think it would be really nice to have each challenge end when you defeat the Gym Leaders of each respective part instead of just entering the gym. In that case, it becomes about how to get from the previous Gym to the next gym the fastest, rather than actually having a team that could compete against the Gym Leader. (Ex: Charmander in Fire Red can easily get to Brock due to it being able to tear through the entire forest. The same can be said for Pewter to Mount Moon tbh) You've done most of the work in such a way that you can just add in the times from each gym to the totals, rather than redoing everything though, so that wouldn't be too difficult to adjust, if you wanted to.
Honestly shocked that Ruby/Sapphire sold the second worst of all the games, though I sort of get it, seeing as people around for the original pokemania were aging up out of it and you couldn't transfer your old pokemon, so if you were on the cusp, it may have seemed like a good time to get out, but still, as someone who started with those games, it still felt like everyone was playing it at the time, and it certainly has retained a following through romhacking (though admittedly that's partially because the tools for newer generations aren't as good)
Every game: Eh, probably not that long in most cases.
Kalos: How about 10 bloody years lol.
That is kalos biggest problem imo, the pacing yoy take forever to get to gym 2 but, after the third gym is pretty much a race
I remember playing y for the first time and I was so exciting and thought the game will be really long because of the second gym
Damn was I disappointed
N actually doesn't catch any Pokemon in his battles IIRC. He always uses Pokemon that are available in the route you are ON or about to move onto which means that he enlists wild Pokemon to help him.
It's kind of a cool mechanic to preview any new encounters as your journey progresses.
obvious exception for the battle in his castle after the league, but in general, yeah
So he's more of a Pokémon Ranger then
It's hilarious being all like "We're going with X for this run because it can deal with the late-game gyms and when it evolves it gets this typing which is good against...", knowing full well the run is ending at Gym 2.
So Meganium is bad in Johto for the reason why Venusaur was good in Kanto. Feels like a betrayal to be honest.
At least Meganium would get better matchups in Kanto. But then again, that is the post-game.
It’s just bad
Plus Team Rocket uses a lot of poison types, and Lance uses all flying types, 4 of which are 4x resistant to grass
Running increases encounter rate, but only in gen 4 , and i think only in heart gold/soul silver, really
How many other lies have I been told by the council?!
You think, or you know?
That run straight through Mt Moon 1F was crazy
for some games, running increases encounter rate. for the other games, it just seems like it does because you're covering more land more quickly. when each step is a possible encounter, and you take each step quicker, it's going to seem like you're getting more encounters

that shiny caterpie in firered though, nice
X and y bout to have the longest time by a mile
I think you should do this again but with gameplay between gyms 7 and 8, since most every Pokémon game has its major story elements occur before the 8th gym!! This video was fun to watch and a super cool idea
'chikorita sucks' *me sitting there having blazed through all of crystal with a meganium a togepi and a wobuffet
I started playing Pokemon Y, took it slowly, won the first gym at around 1 hour... As for the second gym... I think i was at 10 hours or more lol
Love that x&y took you almost as long as me watching this video 😂
29:04 Ah! That makes it impossible to solo Black and White legitimately. MandJTV forgot this detail when going through every games if it was possible to just beat with one pokemon.

You know what was missing in unova? cleafairys from the actual moon in a museum.
Teddiursa is the only non Bug with the Honey Gather ability, which also fits Katy's pastry shop. Still trying to figure out what's with Mismagius (other than Levitate) and Altaria.
Pretty sure one of the gym leaders in gen 9 has a bug type teddiursa
@@D3sdinova yeah, Katy
I'd just call it power gaming. Tera electric Mismagius has no weaknesses thanks to levitate, and Tera ice on Altaria turns a 4x weakness into a resistance.

I got the game on release and I had a Speed Boost Blaziken by the time I solved it lol
same
Ech
I guess Katy has a Teddiursa because Teddiursas loves honey and honey is made by bees, also she is a baker so it fits well I guess xD
That's kind of true. Teddiursa is the only non-bug type Pokémon that has honey gather
45:45 This lady must be an absolute unit if she's not only able to tank a Tauros charge, but able to stop it completely in its tracks
Love the video!

That random shiny Caterpie though. I always have a soft spot for that shiny as I always name mine Frito for a significant reasons.
Not only is Illima a guy, he's also 16/17.
This is how you know the Pokemon-RUclips space is saturated beyond help...
"Can I beat Pokemon without using the letter T?"

Makes me soooo disappointed that Team Rocket's Meowth doesn't "talk" in the games.
I really hope you do it for every gym. I love how you sneak in your opinion about each portion of the games featured.
Tediursa worked as a Tera ace not because it looks like a bug type, but for the pun - it’s a play on “Bugbear”
Really enjoyed this. Nice to see you break down the games showing why it is good or bad with how fast it is to go between each gym.
I was waiting for you to say that running gave more encounters despite showing otherwise. It made me chuckle, and i enjoyed the pokebusters interlude. Subbed just for that.

Those are some of the most hated games. Only ruby and saphire are appreciated.
There's a reason why Heart Gold and Soul Silver are the gold standard for Pokémon Remakes

17:08 Wow a shiny caterpie. And gen 3 has the lowest odds of any series. You're really lucky
Doing at least 5 monotype runs of X and my times replaying probably approaching 50, I have gotten really used to the amount of time between gyms. 11:29 YEAH, BOY!! 🏖️🌊
13:28 Alright, Mudkip! 😁
17:07 did you catch the Caterpie on the left?
43:34 🤔
Pretty much Torchic is actually good if you evolve it. Plus the forest gives you a Shroomish if you want a super effective pokemon for Roxanne.
This video is so well made! This is my first time even seeing your channel, and now I can’t wait for a potential third gym video!
I would love to see that graph as the game goes on. It’ll be interesting to see how games break down as you go further
Mantine surfing was one of my favorite parts on USUM lol, pretty fun + easy to get some BP

The roller skating mechanic in XY was so cool man, even just that makes the games worth it imo.
I was actually hoping for someone would make this video
In the time it takes to get from the first to second gym in X and Y several other games would be past the third gym.
This is a pretty good video idea honestly
I don’t think you’re able to battle Misty until you get through Nugget Bridge
very cool series, excited to see how the stats are as it continues
Yoo let's go! Loving this sequel, although I'm hesitant to call it a series because it just gets progressively longer every time. Also nice to find another wild Gen 6 enjoyer!
Man, I hope that shiny Caterpie was legitimate. That would be so fricken cool for a mechanics exploration.
It’s so rare to see someone who actually appreciates gen 6. Glad to see someone fluent in based
17:07 bro, casually encounters a shiny caterpie
10:51 “go really into crafting with Kurt and his fancy new balls”
What happened to his old ones?
People need to realize they don't hate the fire/fighting type, they hate that there are fire/fighting starters three times in a row
When you realize Chespin gets Rollout early:
This is a interesting idea. The evolution of gym pathing and content between gyms.
This challenge run is so fun!!
I dont understand how you're at 2350 subs because your content is great, your videos have exceptional quality and youre just a fun narrator. Well, you know that you're going to need to do this for the third gym now ;)
Wait, are there people who like Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? I thought the general consensus is that they were poor remakes.
I adore Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl far more than the awful Legends Arceus
I adore Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl far more than the awful Legends Arceus
Cool video, hope to see more of these in the future
If you do the 3rd gym DP and BDSP are gonna skyrocket lol
You forget in XY they also give you a free torchic if you played during the special release time. So you get 3 starters before the 2nd gym.
19:25 Missed the chance to call him Roarkxanne
Great vid! And wow I forgot how "full" Sun&Moon early game was
17:06 Casually flexing getting a shiny during his experiment
_Ohh, I'd like to be the nickname for one of your mon in a "How long does it take to get to the 3rd gym?" video. Lol 😅_
39:45
THANK YOU! I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE SINCE THE GAMES CAME OUT!!!
The smooth reaction to Ilima made me laugh.
All I will say is the first pokemon ad sounds like it's being said by Seto Kaiba and that will never not make me laugh
N says that he doesn't believe in owning Pokémon against their will and isn't a fan of how Pokeballs force Pokémon inside them against their will
17:04 I noticed the shiny caterpie. :D
Can't wait for the gym 3 video
Excellent video, really enjoying the content. Hope you continue to do the same for up to the third, fourth gym and on.
Fun video. Though, I think it would be really nice to have each challenge end when you defeat the Gym Leaders of each respective part instead of just entering the gym. If you do the other GYMs don’t forget to Tarous Charge into town!
...You taught your Monferno Rock Smash despite it getting Mach Punch. Just catch a damn Bidoof!
Only 2k subs is crazy. Good shit bro, keep it up 🙌
I'm looking forward for the 5 seconds it takes from gym 5 to gym 6 in pokemon heartgold
Great vid. I enjoy these very much. :)
Your videos are awesome
Did he ignore the shiny caterpie at around 17:14 when he was discussing running vs walking encounters!? lol
Dude I am so happy you pick Chimcar for gen 4
teddiursa is a tera bug cos it eat honey. its ability is also honey gather.
I was not prepared to see Fat Mike in a Pokemon video
Really enjoyed the video, thanks! Did watch at 2x speed. In terms of the games, the speedier the better basically
Ah yes an Ilima enjoyer. You probably appreciate Grusha too.
Honestly shocked that Ruby/Sapphire sold the second worst of all the games, though I sort of get it, seeing as people around for the original pokemania were aging up out of it and you couldn't transfer your old pokemon, so if you were on the cusp, it may have seemed like a good time to get out, but still, as someone who started with those games, it still felt like everyone was playing it at the time, and it certainly has retained a following through romhacking (though admittedly that's partially because the tools for newer generations aren't as good)
Mean girls edit was a nice touch haha
Bugbear is the pun.
It’s a bad day to be named Miguel 😔
Also I don’t care how fast slowpoke tails grow back I’d rather be a vegetarian in the Pokémon world than eat Pokémon meat
