i used Zep Window and Glass cleaner from Tj Maxx. i would clean sections at a time. It is very tiring to do it by hand. i sprayed it on the floor left for 5 min and cleaned it up with hand toweles. Test an area first
The same thing happened to me, I used Bruce’s green bottle, ran out, bought another brand that home depot recommended QUICK SHINE , hardwood floor Luster. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, my floor looks like his does exactly.

Which windex did you use? One has ammonia one doesn't. 🤔
Some steamers can damage the glue seals in a hardwood set up so clean quickly and don’t stay in one place too long
Did you add window cleaner to the steamer or just used water in it?

Where did you find the vim cleaner that works? I can’t find it. If it is no longer available, is there another cleaner you recommend?

Try a splash of methylated spirits in warm water. Ring out microfibre mop…it will be perfect on your floors…
